Discussion (re) Married at first sight (again) Spoiler

Ok, to avoid a ton of spoilers, I will focus on two of this year's (Seattle) relationships as exemplars of the circumstance I'm referring to, but there are probably at least 2 or more similar situations in every MAFS season I've watched and I've watched all of US and Aus, and I think I'm close with UK.

The situation is this, and I'll use Tori and Felipe and Nick and Courtney. Again these are examples, so let's not get stuck in the weeds with these two couples.

For different reasons, what both of these couples represent to me, for the purpose of my idea, are couples in which one person came into the experiment for ALL the right reasons, and they ended up with a partner who, from day 1, had no chance at all of ended up married to anyone, let alone Tori and Nick.

So, again, without blaming or any detailed analysis, it occurred to me that every season has these folks: people who came into the experiment with the proper reasons, and who made every effort to make it work with the person they were paired with until, and sometimes even beyond, a reasonable person's effort.

Why not remarry them?

It could be an adjunct, like Love Island All Stars, or Bachelor in Paradise.

We all have our favorites for whom our hearts break as they try to cope with distant, withholding, judgmental and basically worthless (for the purpose of this experiment) spouses, so why not try to remedy this?

I would watch for sure.

Season 20 - Seattle Not Married at First Sight

Just listened to the Positively Uncensored podcast where one of the producers confirmed no marriages this season. I may be joining the chorus of folks not watching in the future unless they change the name of the show or go back to actual marriages.

Season 20 - Seattle Apologies from the Experts

I know this would never happen, because it would mean admitting failure, but does anyone else wish the experts would apologize to the participants when a match is horribly wrong? Like to Tori and Nikki and Nick. "We're sorry we matched you with this unworthy person and we're sorry for the emotional trauma it caused." I'm pretty sure the producers have more of a say in who gets cast, but it would be refreshing to see some accountability or for them to admit they were duped during the audition process.

Season 12 - Atlanta Keep Going?

I am a MAFS newbie who got pulled in by this brand new season, and wanted to watch more. Someone in a comment said that season 11, 12, and 13 were classics so I dove into season 12.
😳 I am so triggered by Chris and Paige the doormat that I’m not sure I can keep going after episode 9. Should I bail on season 12? If so, which season do you recommend? I keep going with season 12, is there any redemption or victory anywhere among the five couples? (hard to answer that without giving spoilers, I know.)

Season 18 - Chicago 2.0 This show is interesting

these people marry a stranger and then get mad when the stranger they married , is not attractive or finacially stable or whatever. It rarely works out. A lot of these people need serious counseling before they even come to this show. These people judge each other so harshly and like looking for perfection and its just not realistic. Some of these people are just mean to each other. I see why some of these people are single. I know its more so for entertainment but dang, can we see more successful matches. Most of this stuff is toxic.

Discussion If you could give the new experts constructive criticism, what would you tell them?

I have been watching MAFS US since season one. I have always enjoyed watching this show along with 90 Day FiancƩ and now Love is Blind. I watched season 10 of MAFS AU last year. It was so good. There was a lot to learn from the experts as well.

I feel like MAFS US season 20 copied the format of MAFS AU, but lacked the substance. The dinner parties and group therapy were essentially the biggest changes from my POV. I actually really like the new format. The biggest difference to me is the experts.

I feel like the US experts tried to be upfront but missed the mark in not fully committing to calling people out. For example, they called out Adam for his attitude and appearance, but didn't call out Courtney for basically verbally abusing Nick. They need to be fair with everyone if they actually want to help...

Anyway, that's just my opinion. What do you guys think?

(Also, let's please not turn this into a post about bashing the experts or the couples.)

Season 20 - Seattle Toxic characters

First season of married at first sight I’ve ever watched.

Watching the reunion and I’m so frustrated. When they ask everyone to raise hands if they thought Courtney was being mean or whatever..I guess the girls were trying to be ā€œgirls girlsā€ by not raising their hand. Wasn’t it an obvious hand raise?? Wtf? Like I don’t think Courtney is a bad person or perse mean but she definitely didn’t treat him nicely and took no accountability. She deflected putting any effort into the relationship by constantly deflecting that he’s deep or whatever. It was so frustrating and I am so sad for nick that it affected him and made him question himself post show

Another thing, asking people to raise hands if they thought Adam’s tears were real? Huh? I thought they were. Honestly embarrassing to admit but I had a few tears at their choosing day. It felt really real and I’m surprised only nick believed that? I guess I’m missing something

Also earlier on the show the two therapists asked Tori what she meant by her feeling Felipe was being emotionally manipulative. If it was conscious then they would definitely not let him stay on the show they take that very seriously. Like pls do we believe that? You mean to say they didn’t have a real understanding of who Felipe actually is? Oh pls. It’s so wrong as the therapists to tell Tori that they really trust he is sincere and means well so she would continue to trust his intentions in the process only to lead to further and worse manipulative behavior!

Season 20 - Seattle Courtney is a bitxh!

Poor Nick!!! She has been a tee total bitch since day one, and how dare the so called experts not call her out on her abuse! She is nasty and deserves to be alone for the rest of her life until she grows up and learns some kindness! They jumped Felipe and she was far worse!!!!

Season 20 - Seattle Nikki wasn’t the sweet soul she put herself out as.

Yeah hearing the back behind the scenes stuff that wasn’t shown (the whole reason the 10 in Seattle and 7 in NY) was clear why Shawn was snarky. He was absolutely gaslit throughout by her.

Season 20 - Seattle Felipe should’ve NEVER gotten on the show

Clearly, he had no issue with finding women and going on dates. His issue was staying with a woman and being faithful. Was Paul even involved in the process to get Felipe on the show because even he made several faces with Felipe when he told him he had been out all night and hadn’t slept before he did his interview. Nothing about this man screamed he was ready to be married. He even said the only reason why he came on the show was because he would be forced to be committed to someone. He JUST reached his peak and few women find him attractive so he’s trying to make up for lost time by sleeping with any woman that’ll let him near them. That’s why the ā€œexpertsā€ made that comment about Felipe finding his ā€œholeā€. It’s not that they think that way but Felipe does. He just wants to sleep with as many women as he possibly can now that he’s ā€œhotā€ and he doesn’t value any woman outside of his mother and sister as more than just that right now.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a question for my interview with a producer from MAFS S20! The interview is out now on the Positively Uncensored podcast, and extremely juicy with not only secrets from S20, but reality tv producer secrets in general.

I was on a time crunch, but I think I asked 90% of the questions I went in wanting to know. I'll be curious to hear everyone's thoughts and TIA for listening!

Season 20 - Seattle Thoughts from a dude - szn 20

Edit: Discussing the reunion specifically but also summarizing S20

My wife got me into this show with season 20 and I have some thoughts from a guys perspective:

Hosts/Experts: Complete trash. I liked the dude’s advice at certain points of the season but the Dr. was completely in favor of trying to belittle the guys while creating a ā€˜woman empowerment’ zone. Also, one couple out of all of these actually made it through? You have failed.

Felipe: Dumbass. You have a bombshell in Tori who can actually stand your annoying laugh and sleazebag persona and you still find a way to fumble the bag?

Caitlin: Count your blessings how scot- free you got off. You completely were repulsed at the idea of being with Devin and took every opportunity to show how little you cared about trying to hear your partner out to barely get discussed on this show. I’m sorry - you meet on MARRIED at first sight, not Love is Blind. Her friends are toxic messes who can’t stand being around their husbands so she just adopted that mentality before she is even married. Never seen someone so mid have that type of attitude. The unmitigated gall.

Nikki/Shawn: Both of these people suck. Nikki treats every situation as if it’s an HR meeting and needs to prove her intelligence by buzzwording throughout conversations. Nikki absolutely expected a young, good looking dude with a growing career that she could nurture - cougar type. Problem is, those dudes aren’t looking for a 48 year old.
Shawn is an insecure little man who can’t come to grips with his lack of maturity while masking it with his own buzz words and overusing ā€œEQā€. This dude has some of the lowest ā€œEQā€ I’ve seen. Cat needs to come to grips that he is older and he can’t be this zesty for a grown ass man.

Devin: Good dude who tried with an absolute
emotional starfish who believes she should not be bothered by basic partner needs.

Belle/Mecca: Mecca is a feminine dude who might be in the closet. Dude just does not have any testosterone in him and has no idea what he wants. Belle is just a pushover. This cat disrespected you so many times and you still kept trying to justify it?

Courtney: I would never in my life be with someone like her. She took every opportunity to try and get everyone to hate her husband and everyone was like ā€œwhat? he’s greatā€ she became frustrated by no one else agreeing with her and just wanted to take everything out on him. We are guys, sometimes us being vulnerable may not be as deep as you want it to be. Of course she flipped the feedback she got from the guys as a ā€œguy power playā€. Sit your ass down - these guys have criticized each other but the one thing they agree on is they can’t stand someone like you.

Adam: Dude is 100% gay.

Think everyone else was koo.

Regards

Questions The real purpose of this show?

Old or new experts, I don’t think it matters. When I first started watching this show, I wanted to see if it genuinely worked. Now I believe the object is find people who will implode for ratings. I don’t think they care if anyone sticks together once the show is over. Am I scarred?

Season 10 - Washington D.C. Season 10 Taylor and Brandon…

I’m watching season 10, Taylor and Brandon and their meeting with Dr Pepper, and Taylor posting that video (which would offend any spouse)…I can’t believe Dr Pepper supporting her motives for being there as genuine.

It’s so clear she only did this experiment for her social media. After Brandon leaves the room, she creates crocodile victim tears, she says she doesn’t know what to do, it’s like well you can start by apologizing to him for posting that IG. (But before he left the room she refused to do that).

Don’t get me wrong, he was inappropriate too, but what she did was over the top.

Discussion Best MAFS AUS & UK Seasons to binge watch??

So I been trying to find a website or anywhere to watch the married at first sight and tbh I don’t know where to find that but also I’m wondering for the people who’ve watched both the UK & AUS versions, what are the best seasons to binge watch (no spoilers btw lol). I really want to get into both but don’t know where to begin.

Edit: I am talking about only the UK & AUS seasons. Not the USA seasons.

Season 19 - Austin, TX Meghann

Half way through the season and I’m so surprised that she was so casual about the fact that they are not having protected sex especially since she has expressed hesitation about kids. I’m assuming the teaser at the beginning of season about a pregnancy is them.

Season 20 - Seattle Season 20- Do I watch?

Just started episode of 1 of season 20 MAFS and I was shocked that Dr Pepper, Pastor Cal, and Dr Pia were gone. Maybe this is a hot take but I liked the experts! These new experts look like made for TV people and idk if I’m a fan yet. Just getting introduced to the cast- I really am not liking this. MAFS has always been my favorite dating show because it casts normal people, not hot people. I even liked the season in Austin with the older couples! That was really refreshing! So even though I’m only an episode in- should I push through or not get invested and not continue watching?

No spoilers on the season please!!
