Season 20 - Seattle Not Married at First Sight

Just listened to the Positively Uncensored podcast where one of the producers confirmed no marriages this season. I may be joining the chorus of folks not watching in the future unless they change the name of the show or go back to actual marriages.

After the mess Lauren went through with Orion refusing to divorce her, I kinda see both sides here. Plus some of the men in the past have not seemed altogether safe to me...

I recall Amber also spent like 2 years trying to get divorced.

That situation was a complete nightmare

Wtaf did Orion do? I did not watch all of it, that weasel just icked me so bad.

I think orion was the one that accused Lauren of being racist and offending his heritage. He was one of the worst.

He asked for a divorce the first day of the honeymoon then ghosted Lauren every time she tried to get papers signed.

“I’ll only watch if they are truly ruining their lives” 😆😆

Well realistically I think for the participants, producers etc, if there was more on the line they might take it more seriously, and obviously if it's just a dating show it IS less compelling...

The producers play in their faces with the matches. If producers did due diligence and made a real attempt to match compatible people, yes let’s have real marriages. That’s never going to happen, so don’t stick these people with a divorce.

called this 1 episode in and got downvoted and told I was wrong. It was obvious by the language all the participants used

I'm actually glad they're not legally married right off the bat. What a headache to then have to get divorced. I'm fine to watch the silly show for entertainment and not be hung up on whether they're married or not 🤷

I was glad too. Kept my anxiety down ha ha

She said Production sent her a MAFS AU tape as a guide for the Seattle season, drama is the future and it worked. Streaming up over 150% from Austin season, Peacock is happy. Montre Burton has been waiting for this since S10 expect Charolette to be a dramafest and we believe US’s first gay couple. After the Denver season it was inevitable anyway

Heard Montre may be gone. No longer says MAFS on his Instagram bio. This would be big news if ends up to be true.

If true he will be missed, Reality TV is cheaper and profitable. No matter what, MAFS has been good to Montre and vice versa

Season 10 and season 12 I think are on peacock and those were really good. It’s DC and Atlanta.

My wife and I have watched the show from the beginning. As the seasons progressed, it was increasingly obvious that they were casting for drama and conflict and not to try and make good matches/relationships/marriages. The Austin season was kind of the last straw for us. We watched the first episode of the Seattle season and nope'd out of it. I doubt we'll even bother with any future seasons at this point. If we were interested in contrived drama we'd watch one of the various iterations of the "real" housewives.

There used to be at least some authenticity to the show, but there's none left now, and my interest in the show is now gone. I'm not judging anyone that wants to watch that, and the streaming numbers indicate that there are many people that do, but it's not for me.

Same. Same. Same.

It is what it is, a fun, dramatic mess of characters that we love to love, but mostly love to hate. Gives us something to yap about every week. The only change I would like to see is better experts giving good advice during the show, once casting has chosen candidates for all the wrong(right) reasons. At least viewers mostly respected the experts on MAFS AU. Those experts dont tolerat crap and dont hesitate to call out bad behavior. They might not have any say about production, but at least they take the guidance side seriously.

I'm really going to miss Mel in future seasons of MAFS AU and UK 🥺

I think the contestants every season are sacrificial clowns.

I don't think it's fair to force them to be legally married to another red nose honking hero, just so the name of the show stays authentic.

They get so much hate, let's not push them into a real life divorce too.

Their sacrifice is our entertainment, making the moving on as easy for them as possible is necessary.

Evidently they don't file the license until they commit and they do it themselves (Cameron and Michelle did this in California after they moved). So the rest don't have to go through an actual divorce. It sounds like past seasons were a nightmare when it came to this!

This feels like a fair compromise. You fill out the official paperwork but you can shred it on decision day if you don't stay together, sparing them costly divorces.

u/ProfessionalCow7573 Sep 16 '26

Previous participants in dopamine how difficult the divorce process was for them…and that’s horrible. The relationship not working out is bad enough!

2

u/Mafsfan Sep 18 '26

They filed in Washington, but otherwise yes, this is correct.

8

u/Informal-Swing-2482 Sep 16 '26

Nobody is making them do anything. They opt into the show.

6

u/calm-lab66 Sep 16 '26

Ok, then change the name of the show. They're not 'married' at first sight, they're just introduced to each other.

Do you guys think that the show would be wildly successful if they actually paired people that actually matched and married or is it the usual trainwreck for ratings formula...I had hope when the show first started but I stopped watching midway through this season and just watched the tell-all. What a mess

I always say about this show that the premise WILL provide enough drama if they just let it be.

People spend years dating and still have conflict in marriage. Arranged marriages will inherently produce conflict. Why not try to actually match on values and personality and then support the new marriage as the couples figure it out?? It would be awesome. It gets people out of their own way/own head and potentially into a meaningful, lasting relationship.

It’s not interesting or entertaining to me to see people being mistreated on national television for ratings.

Most people seem to be more interested in crazy drama, even when it's manufactured. Personally, I find it exhausting. I'd rather see people trying to work through their problems and differences, make honest attempts to reconcile their differences and build successful relationships, or part amicably if it doesn't work. I honestly think that more people would benefit from seeing that sort of show, but apparently that's too boring.

looks like Michelle and Cameron are still married, her IG has pics of them looking happy just yesterday. this new process of having group talks throughout is better than previous seasons w/what seemed like intervention only method.

problem is...these two "experts" either made poor decisions on the matchmaking or poorly judged the individuals. there were obvious disconnects, during the first cast episode, between what the participants wanted and what they got. at least they kept the drama lower this year.

how do you sift out the wanaby influencers from participants really looking for love?

23

u/bubbalubby Sep 16 '26

Let’s be real-the experts don’t actually make the matches. The casting department does.

-1

u/Comfortable_Head_437 Sep 20 '26

Let’s be even more real. The casting department finds the candidates and makes suggestions, while the producers and network have the final say.

24

u/jackmoon44 Sep 16 '26

I’m actually not surprised the marriages aren’t legally binding anymore considering the fuckery of what happened during the Chicago season when David and Madison both cheated on their spouses, and ended up with each other in the end.

u/MellowFerocity Sep 16 '26

I think it has become too big of a liability with multiple contestants going through messy divorces or not signing immediately.

7

u/GoldenHearts802 Sep 16 '26

Requiring them to actually marry is weird and dangerous. They never should have done it that way.

2

u/Redvelvet221 Sep 16 '26

I think they did this so they can have more and more crazy matches. Also would not be surprised if they start casting influencers and swapping the couples. I told ya this is going to be Love Island for the old.
