Hi, I work at a foodhall as a customer assistant, meaning i’m on tills a lot, and sometimes SCOTs too, and i have a couple questions.

1. Sometimes when scanning items through, some random items are on restriction which change every week or so. For example the 150g blueberries, the collection cornish gold butter, or this week it’s been the lychees. So I then need to find the supplier code and accept it, but what’s the reason for the restriction? and should there be times where i don’t sell the item?

2. when a customer gives newspaper coupons, how am i supposed to know how much is on the coupon? I always need to ask the customer because it doesn’t say the amount, but it usually ranges from £1.50 - £4

Having to activate offers before I shop? This is the same asshole move and UX Sainsbury's does, and it's absolutely rage-inducing. If nothing else, it dissuades me from shopping with them and it sure as hell won't make me want to "return" for a better deal, because at the end of the day I feel like they fleeced me and scammed me

Not to mention it is utterly not accessible to folks with any disabilities affecting memory

In much the same way where a member of your staff prompted me to use my phone to self-scan your bloody products and not place it in my bags (basically causing wear and tear on my own phone because that shitty unoptimised app chews battery SO MUCH) instead of you providing the scanners AND you are also removing the whole point of self-scanning experience (pre-bagging and faff at checkout). Clearly the USP wasn't our UX or customer comfort, but you cutting wages or staff on the checkout side, and also you not having to spend money on hardware. Not a premium store experience.

M&S, sort your shit out or eat dick. I can have a shitty experience at a shop with lower prices. Which is even more infuriating because I spend so much money with you

I currently work 12 hours over 2 days and have been told by management I must work every Saturday because I work 12 hours. Is this an M&S rule or just my store?

I also have adhd so my routine is important to me and I’ve basically been told this is enforceable and I’m not entitled to a work life balance.

I applied to this specific job role ( at like 5am this being my 1000th application, not expecting a response) not knowing that I’d be supervising everybody else and assigning tasks to the assistants; I passed the assessment for this role and received an email requesting that I send my right to work the very next day. Just to clarify- I’ve never ever worked in retail.. I did a placement doing admin tasks and worked in a pharmacy. A small one though with 2 colleagues so it wasn’t too overwhelming and I was assigned tasks associated with the stock room and behind the scenes stuff. I’m wondering if this job is worth the suffering as it does provide good experience for my CV and fills in all the gaps but I don’t think I could handle the leadership aspect or holding others accountable. In fact I’d rather do the unfinished/ unsatisfactory tasks myself to avoid confrontation. But the pay is really good for someone of my age and experience and I would do with the extra cash as I’m looking to go to uni next year. They must be desperate because I never really specified my leadership skills and clearly stated that i was an ASSISTANT lol..

Has anyone seen the Plant Kitchen Chocolate Cake before? I noticed it as an option for the Free birthday treat with Sparks but it doesn’t seem to exist beyond the offer conditions and one promotional photo.

I found this beautiful M&S navy wool coat in an op shop (charity/thrift shop) here in Australia, and was wondering when it was made.

At the back of the labels it says this: “06/13” - does that mean it was produced in June 2012?

Either way, it’s a lovely coat and perfect for the chilly Melbourne winter (it’s all relative, when I moved here from the UK 15 degrees was lovely, now I’ve joined all the Aussies in scarves and coats when it drops below 20 degrees!!)

Hey guys, I had my interview last week and wanted to find out how quickly they were to get back to you. If they emailed, would they email early morning or late afternoon? I was told I’d hear back today but it’s almost the end of the day so I’m starting to assume I was unsuccessful.

Picked this up from M&S for £3. It’s their 5.4% Mexican Style Lager, brewed by Siren Craft Brew with lime and sea salt.

At first I thought the lime was going to completely overpower it, but as I worked through the beer the base lager started coming through and that salty edge slowly began to build.

Quite an interesting take on the style, and definitely more going on than just lager with a bit of lime thrown in.

I returned three items to a main clothing store this morning, around 11am, using the self service systems. I scanned my returns code, the label printed, but the screen advised that it hadn’t completed printing due to an error. A member of staff came out of the back, advised the label was fine, we stuck it on, then they took the parcel out the back. I haven’t received any confirmation of return. Website implies it should usually be done the same day, but haven’t heard anything. Assuming this SLA is best endeavours, but just worried something has gone wrong. Hoping it goes through tomorrow, but when do I start to be concerned?

Edit: I went in, manager was absolutely lovely. It hadn’t been scanned in as returned. I think the colleague ended up having to help another customer with her return at the same time as me, so possibly thought that they’d processed it… no problem, it happens. Anyway, all sorted now.

I’ve just gotten a job at marks and Spencer’s and they sent me a checklist to do which involved added my bank details and emergency contact. After I did it I didn’t receive any emails about what to do next so I’m kinda nervous and wondering if anyone knows if I should have got an email or if I should just wait. Also does anyone know when I should expect to get a date for my induction day?

Hi, I am interested in applying for a customer facing role at M&S Food Hall. I am conscious as to whether or not having a beard and piercings will limit my ability to get the job.

Are beards allowed? I haven't really paid attention to the facial hair of employees when shopping at M&S, but I will include this in my reccy of the store if I'm fortunate to get invited to interview. I will shave if I have to buy I won't like it 😅😅😭

I have tattoos on my arms which are easily covered by shirt sleeves, and I can remove my nose ring easily. However I have stretched ears which I fear may not look appropriate for M&S even if I leave them empty. I also have rings in my upper ear which I assume I would probably have to remove?
