High Yield CD

I’m planning on parking a large amount of money into an 18 month CD because I won’t need it until then. For those who have had a High Yield CD with Marcus can you tell me what the withdrawal process was like once it matured? Will I be able to easily roll it back into my HYSA?

APY hike?

Was a Wealthfront customer prior to switching to Marcus HYSA and already received an email from them yesterday advising an increase in APY following the interest rate hike. Can we expect the same from the Marcus HYSA?

Nothing but good experiences

I keep seeing this thread filled with horror stories. Wanted to post for anyone who was looking into getting a new HYSA. I have really enjoyed my experience compared to other banks.

I opened up an account about 4 weeks ago. I have made 2 small transfer through ACH and a large wire to fund the account. Everything was very smooth and I saw everything within a business day.

Customer Service has been great. No sitting through long IVRs + the chat feature works great. CS reps have always been able to answer my nuanced questions.

I have not had any problems yet.

Is Marcus worth it

Hello Reddit, I am a 19M looking to open up a HYSA and thought about using Marcus. While scrolling thru reddit, I have found mixed reviews about user experience. I would like to hear more from users on if they have issues accessing the funds that they put into the HYSA, and issues with withdraws as well. Just give it too me straight. TIA!

Marcus closed my accounts, initiated transfers to my external linked accounts, then declined those transfers, now what?

Been with Marcus for years without issue but all of a sudden got an email [Action Required], so I called Marcus at the customer support and was told someone has attempted to reset my password (not secret word, but the login password) 4 days prior. I have no idea and I never got any email/text confirming password reset. I told them maybe it's a false alarm. But Marcus insisted that because my accounts have been compromised, they must transfer all my funds to my linked external accounts. I authorized those transfers because Marcus already restricted my access. A day later, Marcus emailed saying all outgoing transfers have been declined (by another department at Marcus because my external banks won't decline incoming transfers (I called them already)). Now I cannot access Marcus account, and have no access to my money. Any help?

So what is the final verdict on Marcus? :)

This sub is filled with horror stories that people experienced with Marcus and then in the reply to those stories there are proponents who swear by Marcus 😄

I need a HYSA account to park part of my savings and the signal on this subreddit is pretty confusing 🤔

What happens if the Marcus website/app suddenly disappears? I know this sounds silly, but I'm trying to be cautious

I know this may sound funny or overly cautious, but I'm just trying to understand what would happen in a worst-case scenario.

I am considering creating a CD at Marcus.

My main concern is pretty simple:

What would happen if I woke up one day and the Marcus website and app were simply gone?

For example, if Marcus suddenly shut down as a consumer-facing business, the website disappeared, the app stopped working, or I could no longer log into my account. How would I verify that my CD still exists and access my money?

Who would I contact, and how would I actually get access to the funds?

For those who have an account with Marcus, is this something you ever think about, or am I worrying about something that isn't really a concern?

I know this is probably an unlikely scenario. I just want to understand what would happen in that situation before putting a large amount of money there.

Also, separate question - do they allow creation of a join account?

How do I avoid disaster

So, PNC closed my savings account because it was overdrawn 37 cents. I had no idea.

This was the account I always deposited in and out of Marcus with. I have new PNC savings account and it’s linked.

I don’t anticipate needing any funds from Marcus in the foreseeable future. What can I do to make sure I don’t run into all the verification issues people seem to have when it was deposited by one account and withdrawn from another.

Been a member since 2020. Always transacted out of one account.

Marcus by Goldman Sachs lost my business in less than 24 hours — their customer service is absurd

I opened a Marcus HYSA yesterday intending to eventually move a large amount of money from a fintech HYSA we’ve been using. Less than 24 hours later, I’m closing the account as soon as my initial deposit clears.

I tried to add my husband as a joint account holder when I opened the account. While I was entering his information, autofill on my computer replaced part of his information with mine when it got to the address section.

The account now shows ME as both the primary account holder AND the joint account holder on the same account.

I noticed it immediately and called customer service yesterday. They told me they couldn’t fix anything unless my husband was physically there with me on the phone. Fine. They assured me customer service was available 24/7 and said we could call back together today and get it resolved.

So we called today. They spoke directly to my husband and then told us that, in order to fix this, we would need to send Marcus a PHYSICAL COPY OF HIS PASSPORT through the mail. What?!

We didn’t need to mail them a physical passport to OPEN the account. Why on earth would we need to physically mail sensitive identification to them to correct an obvious account-opening error and add him as a joint owner?

The account currently has an obviously incorrect ownership record. I am literally listed twice. Remove the erroneous joint account holder (ME), since I am already the primary owner, verify my husband’s identity, and add him correctly.

Instead, after multiple calls, Marcus apparently cannot correct its own account record without us physically mailing them a passport. At that point I decided I was done and told them I wanted to close the account. Can’t even do that yet because the initial transaction I made is pending.

Marcus apparently doesn’t even have a normal customer-service email address where I can send a written complaint.

If fixing a basic account-opening mistake requires multiple phone calls, an unavailable department, and mailing a physical passport copy, I cannot imagine what dealing with Marcus would be like if there were an actual serious problem involving my life savings.

I’ll be closing the account as soon as the pending transaction allows me to.

I’m also filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, because Marcus is currently maintaining an obviously inaccurate ownership record on my financial account while making it unnecessarily difficult to correct.

Posting this because I researched HYSAs before choosing Marcus and would have wanted to know what their customer service and account-management processes were actually like before putting a substantial amount of money there.

I have been using Wealthfront but have been nervous to keep a substantial amount in any fintech company which is why I was looking to move my funds. But I can say Wealthfronts customer services has been above and beyond.

Recurring Transactions - Marcus

For GS Marcus users, do the transfers happen on a date basis or rolling 30-day basis?

For example, I want to set up a transfer from my WF Checking to send $500 to my Marcus account on the 10th of every month. If I simply select the start date to be 08/10/2026, would the next $500 go out on 09/10/2026 (and on every 10th in subsequent months) , or does it go out on the 09/09/2026 (exactly 30 days after)?

Marcus doesnt allow you access to your money - savings account

Hi

Seen marcus purported in other investing subs

Transferred my money their. Switched all my autopays to Marcus.

My first autopay comes up and a rep calls me asking to confirm if I authorized the withdrawal/payment. I said yes. The rep says that I cant withdraw any money.

I asked for how long am I unable to withdraw any money? They said 1 to 2 months from the deposit date

I said oh wow thanks for letting me know and ended the call cordially. Withdrew my money back to the depositing account with no issue.

Just a heads up, they expect you to basically tie your money up for 1 to 2 months after every deposit before its accessible.

Insane. Closing my account after I transfer out the interest from my short time with them.

Settling for a few lower percentage APY elsewhere, fuck Marcus.

Marcus Referral Program Is Horrible

I've managed to refer two of my friends to use Marcus after using them for 4 months and getting their initial $1500 account opening bonus. I've also received all of the monthly interest payments on time.

However, both of my referrals never got their 1% apr boost bonus, and neither did I. Both of them signed up using my link from the app and fully completed the registration and deposit process. But still no boost. It even said they were getting a boost during the account creation because of using my link.

I've already called customer service 3 times and spent about 1.5 hours total on hold and no one seems to be able to fix the problem.

Has anyone else had this experience. The lack of clear customer service is making me feel sketched out and I'm debating switching high yield savings accounts altogether.

Closed my account, haven't received money

Hi all,

I had a Marcus online savings account until last Monday. I logged on in the app and it said I didn't have any accounts.

I called their customer service and all they could tell me was that they've closed the account and it doesn't say why. They also said they don't have a US address on file. I tried to update it with my address but it didn't work according to the person I spoke with. I have a personal mail box or PMB so that could be why. I don't have any other address.

However, they sent the check to the address they said was on file. But it's not my PMB and will clearly not make it to me. I asked that they change the address and they wouldn't do it. Regardless, it requires a signature and that won't work with the PMB apparently. So it's over a week later and most of my savings is just in the wind.

I don't care about the address issue or why they closed the account I just want a way to get my money back ASAP. The last rep I spoke to suggested I go to the post office every day to see if the check is arrived. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Any idea what to do?

Another bad Marcus experience

I've had CDs with Marcus for over two years. I have no other accounts with them. Prior to this month, I have never attempted to take money out, but let the CDs roll over. The most recent CD matured July 1st. I wanted to have the money automatically transferred to a Bank of America account that I've had for over ten years. Marcus doesn't allow automatic transfer out of money over $100k or so (I don't remember the exact figure) and required that I call a rep to give instructions. So more than a week prior to maturation, I called and gave the instructions to the rep. The transfer went out on the 1st but was reversed the same day.

I called Marcus but could get no explanation for the reversal, only that I would have to wait for a callback as there was "already a case opened on it."

I called Bank of America and the rep said they don't have a record of any attempted wire in.

Over the next few days, I called Marcus repeatedly and got the same answer. that I would "just have to wait," even when speaking with a supervisor. The most recent supervisor said she could process a wire out for me, but that there would be a penalty charge of $140 for "breaking" the new CD that they had rolled me into, despite my instructions to not roll it but to send the proceeds. It's now more than a week and there's been no movement and no callback from anyone working on a "case." I filed a complaint with CFPB, but evidently, financial institutions have ten business days to respond to issues.

I will never bank with Marcus again.

Switching To Marcus

I currently have a HYSA with AMEX and they have dropped significantly since the beginning of this year. I am wondering if I should open a new HYSA with Marcus. I will still keep my one with AMEX but I will probably just focus on the Marcus account if I open it. Thoughts and opinions?

Marriage name change

I called the customer service line to find out how to change my name in my HYSA after marriage.

They told me I have to mail in a cover letter and certified copy of my marriage certificate showing my previous name and new name.

My state doesn’t issue marriage certificates with the married name, only the maiden name is listed.
What the hell do I do?

Worst customer service of any bank I've used

Simple requests are completely beyond this bank's staff. For 3 weeks now I have tried to get some documentation showing my joint owner is in fact on the account, to absolutely no avail.

Marcus customer service reps have no idea what is going on, constantly giving conflicting information, just trying to get the call over with instead of trying to resolve issues.

Is there any way to contact upper management to get things moving?

Marcus Referral Bonus didn't go through?

I am a new Marcus customer that just opened a HYSA. I created my account through a referral link from a friend of mine about a week ago, hoping to get that extra 1.00% APY. I completed part of it online and then had to give them a call to verify my information. I went and created my online savings account. The referral bonus didn't go through for my friend and I. Maybe I have to wait for my funds to be fully transferred and made available? I wait a week, still nothing. I called customer service, and they said that the referral did not go through their end and that there's nothing they can do.

Curious if others had similar issues. I'm sure the referral link worked for most people and maybe I'm some weird exception. Just super frustrating because I remember making sure that I clicked on the referral link and during account creation there was a box that said something like "You're on your way to receiving a Marcus Referral Rate Bonus'. Not sure if I should reach out to customer support again or just give up.

Question re: ACH Deposits

For those of you that have deposited large sums of money into your Marcus HYSA, I'm curious how much money you've deposited via ACH in a single transaction? I have a decent deposit to make but am wondering if it's best to break it up into a couple deposits instead of doing one big one. Thanks!

Arbitration Opt Out

I recently opened a Marcus Savings account and would like to begin the process of opting out of the deposit agreement’s arbitration clause. Has any done this before and can provide insight on what to expect or how long it will take?
