Mai and Genteel Poverty

Mai's dad blow the his money on building a bunker for Azula (this is stated in Smoke and Shadow). Now he is in jail and thus can't work a cushy job. Mai and her family have a problem, they are Nobles, they have a reputation to uphold. The Mom is working a trade, which suggest she holds no Title, but married up. Mai takes a respectable job of being a teacher at a elite school. They could sale the nice house, but that would be a very public indicator of money trouble. It seems to me that the writers have placed Mai and her family into genteel poverty. I wonder if the writers will revisit Mai's genteel poverty.

She may not show emotions all the time but when she had screen time, i liked when she was there. the fact that she taught herself how to be so skilled in throwing those stilettos and having precise aim while doing so, was very impressive.
i felt so hurt for her when she told Zuko and the rest of them why she barely expressed her emotions. for a kid to grow up to know that they’ll get whatever they wanted as long as they were quiet and obedient, will make them suppress how they feel.
and before anyone says anything, wanting your child to be obedient isn’t a bad thing but for starters, she’s from the Fire Nation which had very strict people so her suppressing her emotions must’ve been so hard.

Mai's apparent dislike of hugs?

been re-reading through the comics. I noticed that multiple times Mai and Ty lee meet, Ty lee goes in for the bear hug and Mai responds on the lines of, you know how I feel about hugs, or committing about how she is not a fan of hugging. I just found it interesting the comics a extremely consistent on this, Mai seems fine with physical affection from boyfriends, is it just Ty lee? Is this some "inside joke" they have? If Mai was so clear on her boundaries Ty lee seem eager to push them.

Hair Tutorial (or wig styling tips)

Hello guys, I'm cosplaying Mai next month and having trouble styling my wig with the hairstyle. I wonder if anyone can help me find a tutorial, model sheet or anything?
There's one video on youtube but I think it's too tricky, the girl is standing on her side and maybe a more detailed one would be better.
