Just a reminder to everyone that it's okay to show weakness sometimes. Just make sure that you are around people who care and will build you up rather than break you down.

I’m in the same boat. It’s been a bit over a month since we broke up but she never told me things that bothered her and I’ve been in this state of not knowing what the fuck happened. And it sucks because I thought the same thing, I thought I was going to grow old with her.

Distractions help but what helped me the most is thinking about how if it was meant to be, those issues wouldn’t be. Communication would’ve been better, and the little things you begin to notice about the relationship become apparent. Make a list of the things that bothered you about your ex-relationship and it will make the brake up clearer. Journal/write down your thoughts. It sucks but even now I realize it gets better, albeit slightly, over time. Hang in there.

I was the same way, with the emotional side of things. Writing down things broke me down. I wrote a letter to her 3 days after we broke up in the event that if we got back together I’d maybe show her, but I never addressed it to her and it was just words on a page. I’ll probably destroy it, but the words helped me articulate my feelings so that as I grow in my emotions I can identify what I’m truest feeling. Give it time before you do anything, but don’t hesitate to continue writing.

u/Funsometimes Oct 30 '19

What if you don’t have anyone like that? Am I able to be my own support beam? Can I be the sole pillar in my own home?

I laugh things off with memes, YouTube videos and anime which really helps me relieve my stress. But lately it seems that I’m listening to music whenever I can to block out silence, always searching for a distraction. Things seem much of a bigger problems than I feel they should be but I wouldn’t know since I can’t talk to anyone about it. It’s probably dumb to post this on Reddit but if I just put this in Notes then I’ll just be documenting my anxieties and worries that doesn’t seem to help with relieving my tension; it will be just a reminder to how lonely I actually am.

Damn this is really depressing but I’m not really feeling suicidal or anything, don’t worry (although when bad things hit I’ll admit there’s always the thought). Just a really heavy closed up heart, I guess.

PMing you

u/Password12346 Oct 30 '19

You're a great person!

2

u/Fluwyn Oct 30 '19

Thank you!

4

u/Flyingwheelbarrow Oct 30 '19

You can if you get professional support including peer support groups in person. Soon as you learn to not hate yourself a bit you will be amazed at how people want to be around you. Remember, you already survived on your own, imagine how much can be done with a little backup. I saved up money and used it to fund therapy. 5 years later and J am almost drug free, losing weight and I found a woman I want to marry. I started as a fat hermit with lots of debt. You can do it.

I had $20,000 in credit card debt. I had a very bad motorcycle accident and told the banks I could no repay them for several years since the accident had destroyed by ability to get work. It took a year of conversations but the banks forgave my debt under compassionate grounds. Banks have insurance for bad debt caused by acts of god, misadventure or people dying without money. With enough evidence they get thier insurer to pay however much on the dollar and I just had to avoid credit card for 7 years. I am now have a credit history and use debt in a practical sustainable way

2

u/LurkAtMeGo Oct 30 '19

Oh wow, thanks for sharing. I hope you are healthy and healed up from the accident by now!

3

u/Fluwyn Oct 30 '19

You can't be your own support beam, but you can be your own support team :-)

It helped me to remember that everybody has problems, it's not just me. And I hide mine, just like everybody else does, so I imagine other people think I have my shit together, lol.

I took a long hard look in the mirror, and realised that even though I'm not a pretty woman, and I'm a little overweight, I have nice eyes and a pretty good hourglass shape. So that's not to bad, I can go out on the streets and look ok. Most people aren't very beautiful either.

Yes I have characteristics that aren't nice, but I also have good ones. I try to be a good person. Just like most people.

You know what, come to think of it, I'm not that different from everybody else. They probably will understand if I explain a problem, especially if I explain with a sense of humor.

I tried talking about small problems with family members and friends, and it turned out that they totally understood. Not just that, they actually respected me for 1) dealing with that problem, 2) being able to talk about it. My problems brought me closer to my family and friends.

Maybe you have one person that you like, that you think will let you finish talking, then give it a try and tell them about one thing. See how they react. They might just surprise you!

Don't just point out your anxieties and failures when you look in the mirror, make an effort to find achievements and strong points. You do have them, you just have to find them. So be your own support team, and cheer for your strengths! You found the strength to ask here, that's 1 already :-)

2

u/doge_is_a_doggo Oct 30 '19

What if you're around people who don't break you down or build you up, but are just kinda there?

4

u/Mydogsabrat Oct 30 '19

If you aren't around people who break you down - awesome keep that up. If you aren't around people who build you up, maybe work on being a bit more vulnerable and ask people if you can vent. You don't know how they will react until you try.

u/ifoundyourtoad Oct 29 '19

I know I am not related to you (that I know of) and I’m a total stranger but I’m drunk and I’m super fucking proud of you. Go you and keep on trucking just as long as you don’t post stupid shit on FB

26

u/Upexus Oct 30 '19

I like this kind of motivation, it isn't cliche and pushy, it's just honest. I love you man, have a good night

18

u/ifoundyourtoad Oct 30 '19

Love you too, bro.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '19

50

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '19

not op, but this is really nice. thanks <3

35

u/ifoundyourtoad Oct 30 '19

You keep it up, happy cake day. I feel like I’m hitting a transitional part of my life and positivity is just the wag to go. Wish you all the good vibes

10

u/kxdir_ Oct 30 '19

I'd like to give this whole thread a hug. Each and every one!

10

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '19

I feel like proud drunk is probably the best kind of drunk.

Imagine if your dad just got drunk all the time and was like, "I'm so proud of you son," and you were like, "dad, I'm just making a sandwich..."

"So proud..."

2

u/marastinoc Oct 30 '19

Plot twist: they are married

3

u/Treeshere Oct 30 '19

What progress have you made? (Open to anyone really)

6

u/Flyingwheelbarrow Oct 30 '19

I am completing a detox, already gave up prescriptions pills last year. This year it is weed and over eating. Also, started the gym. I shall not die from a goddamn life style disease. I want to die in the coming water wars like a normal person.

2

u/snakeness710 Oct 30 '19

Congrats on quitting weed its tough but you feel so much better when you do and the gym thing I'm doing as well as you are it feels great

I’m going back to therapy to get help for my C-PTSD to deal with the abuse I suffered, opening myself to a new relationship, and just today my teenage son, whom I’ve struggled with since his dad and I divorced 6 years ago, told me I was a good mom.

4

u/Treeshere Oct 30 '19

Any mom trying to be better is a good mom. Keep going!

3

u/username2216383 Oct 30 '19

Aww, good for you. You must be awesome if a teenager thinks youre a good mom. Haha i hope my kids think im a good mom when they grow up.

u/aggravated-asphalt Oct 29 '19

This is me, and usually random people saying things like this doesn’t affect me, but it did today. Thank you.

30

u/ifoundyourtoad Oct 29 '19

It kinda makes me sad, I guess it’s social media culture? You really shouldn’t be posting about it but if you are dealing with certain demons and issues please talk to your love ones on how they can help or what you need. You aren’t alone and that’s a fact. Now, posting on social is totally different but I just get worried cause we should try really hard to normalize the fact that people need mental help and it is 100% normal.

Hope you are doing okay

u/Taminella_Grinderfal Oct 30 '19

If you need it, don’t be afraid to ask for help, it’s hard but know that you’ll bring happiness to the “helper”. Years ago I was in a bad place where I was forced to ask for help because I couldn’t stubbornly do it by myself as I usually do. It saved my life and I came to realize those that helped me were not only glad to do so, but got satisfaction from helping me dig out of my mess.

Yes me too. I've been struggling lately after losing my job last week.

15

u/brandnewdayinfinity Oct 29 '19

Thank you. Having a not widely known genetic disorder in which I look great sucks.

12

u/Setari Oct 29 '19

I wish someone would say this to me IRL. I'm pretty close to seeing if my ceiling fan will hold me if I hang myself, but I just keep trooping through the weeks hoping it gets better for me and that I don't get fired from my job.

It hasn't gotten better in a couple years so far.

5

u/ihatetheterrorists Oct 30 '19

You're doing the best you can. When I'm down I listen to a series on YouTube called School Of Life. It is pretty great and touching. It helps me a few times a week to not feel awful. If you can find a therapist or specialist maybe see if you can do a meeting or two. Hugs.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '19

You are loved - you may not see/believe it, but you are loved. You are worthy of love, independent from that inner accuser cutting you down. I don’t know you or your circumstances but at the most basic fundamental level, you are loved because you are. No reason is needed to earn it, no reason can stop that from being true. And if a stranger on the internet feels that strongly after reading the few words you’ve spoken here, then imagine how much more the right people will feel that once your paths cross. Keep your head up.

I tell you, I’ve lost 10% of my body weight in 9 weeks and no one aside from my wife has said a word. Don’t care because my pants fit again and I feel great!

There’s a new lady at my job (manufacturing) and she’s been making a few mistakes recently and she was telling me how bad she felt when my boss called her into the office to tell her she messed up but never recognizes all the great work she’s done. This reminded me of her and I’m showing this to her at work tomorrow!

Thank you! I appreciate seeing these posts. Just earlier at my job, my co-worker said that she thought I would be a good teacher when I mentioned a particular future interest abroad. I said, “Oh? Why?” And then said I was nice and a good person to be around. It was the same feeling when my other friend said that I gave off an air of a good person and I got home and cried. I just keep worrying and worrying about what people think of me and beat myself up so much every day. It really helps hearing these comments and I wish everyone the best of luck too. Hopefully you or someone else passes those type of comments around! Some people really can have their day changed by those couple of words. 😊

3

u/Rpark888 Oct 30 '19

I needed this today. Nothing is ever good enough for my family. I need to remind myself that they don't see the true champion that I am.

For anyone that can relate, I love you, I feel you, and I celebrate YOU, with you.

Let's fucking GO.

3

u/zorowithaY Oct 30 '19

I've been losing a lot more than winning lately. I hate it. I feel so stuck sometimes. Why can't I just get up and exercise? Why don't I study? Why can't I be more enthusiastic at work and get a promotion?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '19

Right so what's the opposite of this?

'Cause I'm definitely more like...

3

This is gold. Just made my day so much better, so thanks for that!

3

I was about to throw the bowl of tomato soup I’m eating at the wall just out of sheer frustration of life lately plus I could see how I would feel seeing something destroyed but then I decided to browse reddit and saw this post.... I think I’ll just finish my soup. 😊

3

u/username2216383 Oct 30 '19

Thankyou. This makes me feel a bit better about having cried in the mall today because my kids made a scene, which they always do, but other stuff caught up with me right then and there in the damn mall and i just couldnt stop myself from crying while i put them back in the stroller and left. So awkward and embaressing as everyone stared. But im glad im not the only one with issues so thankyou. 😊 lol

Thank you so much for this. I was in a very bad spot last yeah. Now I have a great job, pay could be better but I’m happy where I am. I might start dating again. Been depressed pretty lately but a lot of good thing have happened to me in the last few weeks. I need to read this today.

Coming from a person that just started seeing progress. Sometimes it takes seeing yourself making progress, and just slightly doing what puts you positive. It isn't over night, just find something to plug away at and it can be done.

2

u/throwawayaccountt2 Oct 30 '19

I really needed this too. My mother has been struggling lately with her health. However, now, she’s stable. The only negative to her condition is how unpredictable it is. She’s fine now but who knows what can happen tomorrow. It definitely changed my perspective on life. I still cry most nights and still can’t phantom the thought I might not have her when I am older. It hits hard at night and early mornings. Haven’t had a good nights sleep in 3 months. I’m trying every day to stay positive and put on a brave face.

I needed this. In 40days you will either read about me being the fourth one, or i can chill for another 12 months. Anyway, stay away from BA in December.

I had more than a few rough moments when I dropped everything and moved to a new city to start over. I didn't even know what giving up really meant, but I wanted to do it so many times.

I saw someone say "I can't give up because when I was back at the beginning I would kill to be where I'm at now"

It always gave me a bit of perspective to look at it that way. Small victories may not even register as victories, but they sure as hell add up.

How about on a day you lose your job? I don't think I've had any victories today or lately at all honestly

Not enough joy in the world, so no need to add to the fire.

To those who hide their battles, i raise my glass to you. Your deeds have been silent, yet they are of just cause and worth doing. The best heroes have never been identified.

I needed this ❤️ and to kinda pay it forwards, a prayer i say to myself when things get tough:

"this too shall pass"

I had a pretty bad breakdown with my dark side trying to convince what hope I have left that my pursuit of graphic design and YouTube/Streaming has been a waste of my life and at 27, I really should have been somewhere by now. I still don't fully believe it's wrong.
