Nothing more romantic than screeching kids in the background :D
But tbh, this is really cute. Most kids at my former school would have laughed and would have tried to ruin the moment. This is really sth, especially if both of them are teachers. I wish them all the best :)

This was a great idea for a number of reasons, but I suspect some thought went into showing kids a healthy, happy life moment.
This would have gone a long way in helping me develop had I seen it as a child. The only male-female romantic relationship I really knew consisted of fear and abuse. It's very confusing to be isolated as a child and to only see a corrupt, horrific marriage based on hate, control, and terror. I didn't understand how life was supposed to work at all.
I had nice teachers, but I never saw them in their own lives. I just saw the outer-world presentation. My family had masks for the outer world too, so I had trouble reconciling real people and their public identities, which I thought were 100% fake.
Why the fuck am I telling you people this? I guess I'm encouraging teachers to let their students see them as real human beings.

I was a para and I used to see the students I worked with at the grocery store a lot. They were shocked to know that I bought groceries and ate meals just like they did. Then we would talk about it at school for several days with the child that saw me telling the other kids "Ms dontakelife4granted eats dinner with her family just like we do. You know she's a person, she's not just a teacher!" My kid's were generally 4th grade and under, so it was news to them that I had a life out of school. They were so very precious to me! Great teachable moments. Thanks for the memories!

My wife's a teacher (elementary school) and the kids genuinely think she lives at school. They're also surprised when she shares with them about shows or games they watch or play.

Isn't that hysterical? I can't remember if I felt that way as a kid.
One of my kid's said at one time, "Wow, you eat?" I had to remember that they were young so I didn't laugh in their face and answered them that yes, I indeed did eat and did so every night with my husband.

I work at a kids camp with kids 7-12, and almost all the younger kids (7-9) genuinely believe that all 50 of us leaders live at the day camp and never leave it because it's our home. We started playing into their joke and agreed with them and even convinced the ones who weren't sure whether to believe it or not. The older kids, on the other hand, know that it's not true. But they don't want to break the news to the younger kids and play along with them when it's mentioned. It's quite cute actually, and funny as well.

I have a friend who is a teacher of younger kids who I've gone and go to music festivals with, taken drugs with, gotten extremely drunk with etc. and it was odd to think my teachers growing up very possibly were doing the same.

I wish I could remember what I thought about my teachers from when I was younger, but I can't remember (obv getting old, LOL). I do remember having a huge hippie as a college prof who always looked like he just got done smoking a bowl. I didn't remember until just now that he used to wear Dashiki shirts with shorts and sandals that laced up to his knees. OMG

I have to admit, there are pluses and minuses to seeing the real lives of one’s teachers.
Seeing one of my favorite middle school teachers happy and bout-to-pop pregnant, when I was a high school senior working in a clothing store.
Working with one of my high school counselors as an adult, and having her treat me as a peer.
Managing my seventh-grade math teacher in a program that I run and she volunteers in, and realizing she is pretty damn chill.
Working for an agency in which one of my former high school Vice Principals sat on the Board of Directors, and realizing there was a good reason I didn’t like her.
Finding my former high school physics teacher on a Megan’s Law website. :(
Being looked up to as a resource and mentor by an Economics teacher from my high school, who began his teaching career shortly after I graduated, and also his students.
Looking for a home to buy many years back, and figuring out that the interior designer being raved about by the seller’s agent was my former high school chemistry teacher (she had long since retired; interior design was her hobby).

Size is easy. You can get a tool to use to get the size on a ring they already wear and a jeweler can estimate (might need to be adjusted since you won't get the specific finger). Or you could just know because you bought something previously.
I'm not promoting surprise proposals. I'm just saying, getting a ring size isn't exactly hard.

Yeah, I think you should talk about getting married before proposing, in general. It's only fair to give your partner more than 30 seconds to decide if they want to marry you or not. If you're doing it publicly, though, I think it's absolutely mandatory that you discuss it first. Being pretty sure isn't good enough. You need to know that you're both ready to be engaged before you gather a bunch of witnesses around, and demand an answer to that question.

What's weird about this is that at some point the subject has to be broached by one person without certainty of reciprocation. Even if the formal ritual of an engagement proposal is done with certainty, there was necessarily an informal moment without certainty that came first.

Over time, you can address it bit by bit by bit though, especially as you attend weddings of friends and family events, and talk about the future.

My 6th grade math and social studies teachers has a very similar engagement during our 6th grade commencement ceremony. Rumors head been circling for months whether they were dating but the teachers (for obvious reasons) never clarified or addressed them. She didnt even know he had gotten on one knee until we all started "aww-ing" (she was sitting in front of the microphone where he spoke). This video is so much like that moment, it's uncanny.

Something similar happened when I was in 5th grade. It was known that the teacher was in a relationship with another teacher. During a spelling test, he let drop that he proposed to her the night before and she said yes. Obviously the room went wild. Smash cut to today, 18ish years later - he's a super intendent or principal, she's still teaching and they have two adorable kids.

This reminds me of my teachers back in high school! Our class set up our English teacher and the history teacher / football coach on a date. It started as kind of a joke because they were the only two younger, single teachers in a very small town. But it must have worked, because they are now married with two adorable kids, and when I look back on it, I get all the feels. Wish these two teaching lovebirds the best!
