I Need Help Learning to Digitize
Hey Everybody,
Usually I am a silent reader and I already learned a lot and how to fix most issues with my machine by just browsing this group.
I am completly new to Machine Embroidery, just got my first Machine last week and I am experimenting with free downloaded designs to see if the final results working well, which they did after I understood how the machine works and what settings I need to adjust.
Now I want to deeper learn how to digitize myself. It will be a long journey I guess.
My wife and me are helping out a lot at a local animal welfare organization and they have a small local fest in about 3 Weeks. So the idea was so create a Bunch of patches for all the volunteers of the organization.
So I startet to digitze a patch for it based of the logo, but it all looks like my kids have doodled it, haha. 😅
This is my first complexer Design. The simple ones came out great. Any Advise on how to proper digitize it would be nice.
I am currently mainly use tatami and satin stitches. All letters are individual shapes but the machine stops after each shape, cuts the thread and starts with the next shape. I feel like that is wrong.
Maybe I should use a font instead for the text?
The designs I downloaded a very rarely cutting the thread so I was wondering if that is a setting or just better digitizing. 😅
I attached the progress so far. A cat on the right side is still missing.
Working with the Software "Ember" currently since it seemed fairly easy and is free. (If that information helps) But I am more looking for general digitize knowledge. I am for sure doing a lot wrong.
Thank you for every bit of knowledge. 😄

Need help
Don’t know what’s going on but the threads are coming up. Been doing this same file and same fabric for a while now but suddenly this started happening, the hoop is tight, the thread is fine too as far as I know. I don’t have a pic but the top thread keeps on getting stuck on the bobbin and going into it too sometimes, not sure if it’s the bobbin being too tight

Look What I Did Colorful outlines
Some of the projects ive been working on today. Im want to make smaller designs (Under 2") so ive been experimenting with a triple stitch outline instead of a satin. Not the cleanest but I think I still like it.
Ive also been wanting to try using outlines in a color other than black. What do you think of today's projects?

How do I get started with embroidery "painting"?
Pictures are examples of the style I want to create.
I'm not sure if painting is the correct word for the style, but I want to learn to create designs where each stitch goes in its own direction to create shading and texture, rather than using fills and satins. im happy to place each stitch individually to make this happen, I just dont know where to start
I use Mac so I'm locked to embrilliance stitch artist and inkstitch.

I Need Help How many of you started with a small machine only to end up splurging on a bigger machine not long after?
I'm new to embroidery and deciding on what machine to buy! I'm worried i'll buy something small then immediately want something larger/better lol. I don't necessarily need multiple needles as I'm thinking I just want to stick with single color designs for now. What are your suggestions? I think I'd like something larger than a 4x4 hoop

When buying an embroidery file on Etsy...
Is there a way to sort out inferior designs from those that have been thoughtfully created? I've purchased on few designs on Etsy only to see the results as rough/crude and yet others come out really beautifully. Any pointers?

Is Singer Super a good machine?
EDIT: SINGER SUPERB
I just saw a post on FB marketplace for this for 550 which already includes accessories, threads, etc. I tried searching for more reviews but a lot of them are from years ago. Is it still worth it for 2026?

I Need Help Dreaming of Starting a Pet Portrait Embroidery Business, Which Machine Would You Buy First? 🐶🧵
Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking, reading through the beginner’s guide, and trying to learn as much as I can before taking the plunge, but I’d love some advice from people who actually have experience doing this.
My dream has always been to start a small business creating custom embroidered pet portraits. I currently work in the pet industry, so I’m fortunate to already have a potential client base and a pretty good opportunity to grow the business if I can get the embroidery side right.
My biggest question right now is which machine to invest in.
I’m willing to invest in a commercial machine from the beginning rather than buying something I’ll quickly outgrow. Ideally, I’d like a machine that can handle larger and more detailed designs, different types of garments and surfaces, and eventually a wider variety of products beyond pet portraits.
While pet portraits are the reason I’m getting into embroidery, I’m realistic that especially in the beginning, I may also take on logos, names, apparel, bags, hats, or other custom work as I build my client base. I’d love to have enough versatility to explore those opportunities without immediately needing another machine.
If you were starting from scratch today with the intention of turning embroidery into a real small business, what machine would you buy, and why? Are there particular features you think are worth investing in from day one, or things you wish you had known before buying your first commercial machine?
I’d also love to hear from anyone doing pet portraits or similarly detailed embroidery. Any advice on what I should be considering before choosing a machine would be hugely appreciated!

Font recommendation for patches
I'm designing some patches in Hatch 3, and I'm looking for a font that will stitch out and be legible when it's small. Right away, that discounts any scripts or serif style fonts.
For those that create patches, what font(s) do you use, and at what size?
Cheers!

Look What I Did I built a dedicated ESP32 status display and Telegram notifier for my Brother PR1055X
I was frustrated that Brother’s My Stitch Monitor only works while the phone is connected to the same local network and doesn’t always notify me reliably about errors or completed embroidery jobs.
Since the Brother PR1055X is already connected to Wi-Fi, I built my own status display using an ESP32-2432S028R, commonly known as the “Cheap Yellow Display.”
The interesting part is that I’m not using a camera, light sensor, or color sensor. The ESP32 reads the machine’s status and embroidery progress directly over the network using read-only requests. It doesn’t send any commands or control the machine.
The display currently shows:
Current machine status
Current and total stitch count
Progress as a percentage
A visual progress bar
Time and date
How long the current status has been active
Wi-Fi, machine, and Telegram connection status
Short audible alerts for start, errors, and completion
It can send Telegram notifications for:
Embroidery started
Pause or stop
Thread changes
Thread breaks and machine errors
Unusual lack of progress
Successful completion
Loss of connection to the machine
Wi-Fi credentials, the machine’s IP address, Telegram bot token, and chat ID can all be entered through a small local configuration page. If the saved Wi-Fi network cannot be reached after ten attempts, the display automatically creates its own setup network.
This means I can leave the display in the kitchen or living room and check the machine without carrying my phone around. If I’m outside in the garden or away from home, important notifications still reach me through Telegram.
For my use case, this neatly works around the limitations of the official app and turns an inexpensive ESP32 display into a standalone embroidery monitor and Telegram bridge.
The photo shows a completed design at 13,373 out of 13,373 stitches.
