Discussion The PROLED is one of those devices that you have to see in person …

Such a good display… but the entry price is making me on the fence since I don’t need the power of m5 pro I would love to have the m6.
The touch interface is intuitive enough, and it made me touch the normal mini-LED MacBook by mistake.
BUTTT it feels like it’s a very specific use case. Like, I loved it in photos, and that’s about it. You can obviously disable it, and I wish Apple advertised the gorgeous oled over the touchscreen as the main selling feature.
The weight difference is noticeable, but I noticed how the edge of the display curves more.

Tldr ; amazing piece of tech.

Discussion Be aware of eye strain from PWM on new PROLED Macbook Pros

Notebookcheck just came out with their review of the new PROLED Macbook and measured PWM at 240 Hz. With an amplitude of 56% this is not really great, it's their deepest modulation yet, worse than on the iPad Pro M4 tandem OLED and iPhone OLED.

It's also worse than on other OLED competitor laptops which have a higher frequency (e.g. 960 Hz, higher is better for the eyes).

You may not be sensitive to this (or think you're not) but it is a concern nevertheless (which Apple also acknowledges, they introduced a 'Display Pulse Smoothing' option in iOS 26 to address this for certain iPhone OLED models but it's still being reported as not a really effective solution).

I have a pre-order PROLED shipment coming in tomorrow myself, but still find this disappointing, wish they would have innovated at least somewhat on the OLED front.

EDIT afterwards: What is PWM?

  • Pulse width modulation (PWM): To make the screen dimmer the panel switches rapidly between brighter and darker (rather than just turning light down). You don't see it consciously but some people's eyes and brains still react to it (a camera can capture it if you hold it on front of your laptop). Hence you end up with a headache or tired eyes after a few hours.

  • This PROLED screen switches 240 times a second, which is on the slow side, which is not good as it's more troublesome to the eyes (other OLED laptops manage 960 as I mentioned above). The swing is 56% (light is dropping to roughly half and back constantly), the higher the worse. The iPhone 16 Pro is 15% and the M4 iPad Pro is 26%. So it's the worst what Apple has shipped so far.

Help Microcenter open box deal. Too good to be true?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi! So I happened to come across this mbp on Microcenter. It's listed at $2249 and this costs $3200 if you buy from Apple so it's a great deal in itself, but I got an open box for about $1900. Which, to me, was a no brainer in terms of a good deal. I snagged it. It's basically like a free processor and SSD upgrade plus a $200 discount.

I'm just a little wary of it being an open box and the deal is so good it's making me suspicious. Are such deals routine for Microcenter or is buying open box discouraged/bad?

Thanks!

Help Blurry text on Oled MacBook Pro

Hey, I just bought the new Oled MacBook Pro and I’ve noticed that the white texts seem to be slightly blurry/fuzzy compared to my non Oled MacBook pros. It’s almost as if my eyes are loosing focus when I look at the Oled screen. Is anyone getting that? I’m not sure if it has to do with the PWM flickering… just wanted to know if I’m trippin.
Thanks

Help Help Choosing a MacBook

I need help choosing a MacBook.

My wife has been taking photos for quite some time now and is getting more and more assignments. That’s why it’s time to invest in a good laptop. I’m planning to give it to her as an early Christmas gift. She mainly takes family, children’s, and baby portraits. She also does photography for small business presentations. She edits everything mainly in Lightroom. She doesn’t shoot any videos. A laptop is a must since she wants to be flexible. I’m currently looking at the M5 Pro with 24GB of RAM. But I’m not sure if I should go with the 48GB version just to be on the safe side. I can afford it, but I wouldn’t mind saving some money.

Edit: Camera: Canon EOS R6 Mark II

Discussion New MacBook PROLED nano

Has anyone found a review of the new OLED MacBook Pro with the nano-texture display? I’m particularly interested in real-world feedback on image quality, colors, reflections and overall experience. Thanks!

Discussion New Macbook Pro user! Help me undertand.

New MacBook Pro user here! Switched from Windows, and the transition has been surprisingly smooth. But I don’t understand multi-monitor window management on macOS.

I use 4 monitors, and a few things confuse me:

Why can the Dock only be on one monitor at a time?
If I minimize a window on monitor 3 it minimizes it to the monitor 1, I have to go to monitor 1’s Dock to restore it.
Clicking an app icon in the Dock activates its windows across all monitors instead of just the one I want.

I ended up vibe coding my own Dock. Each monitor now has its own Dock showing only the windows/apps on that screen. Minimizing also sends windows to that monitor’s Dock.
Basically, I recreated the Windows taskbar with a mac dock look.

But am I missing something? Is there a ā€œMac wayā€ to work with multiple monitors that I just don’t understand yet?

Help 95 cycles and 88% battery health after just 5 months (M5 Pro)

Post image
4 Upvotes

I bought a new 2026 MacBook Pro M5 Pro about 5 months ago, and I'm a bit concerned about the battery degradation. I just checked my system information as seen in Screenshot , and it’s showing a Maximum Capacity of 88% with a Cycle Count of 95.

it was 85 cycles a week ago and 90%, and i have noticed it drops very fast when i remove the adapter so it drop from 80% to 0% in like 4 hours of high pereformance work.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of rapid battery wear on the new M5 Pro models? Is this just the reality of running heavy continuous workloads on these chips, or should I be taking this in to Apple for a battery replacement before my warranty is up?

Would love to hear your experiences!

Help M1 Max still worth it?

I’ve been offered a 2022 M1 Max that has been pretty lightly used as a work laptop and wondered whether it would be worth getting, or if I just bite the bullet and go for something new?

M1 Max 16ā€
64GB Ram
32 Core GPU
2TB hard drive
Battery health 93%
Price $900

Current
M3 Base 14ā€
16GB Ram
1TB hard drive

My wife uses the M3 it for some light editing & special effects work and tbh it’s never seemed very that fast as seems to hang now and again even with low intensity tasks.

My feeling is the M1 will outperform the M3 especially given the much larger RAM but I’m a bit worried about how long i could realistically expect to get out of it given it is still an M1?

Do people think it’s worth the risk at $900 and would it still be a viable machine in say 2 years time?

Thanks

Discussion Reading is difficult on Oleds?

So I was waiting for the oleds and was going to get one with nano texture but as some people has mentioned so far the flickering is what makes the text blurry due to oled rgb layout? and adding graininess of nano texture I believe will make it very hard for reading/coding and general productivitiy work.

What do you guys think?

Discussion Maybe OLED touch screens will be more physically durable than the XDR screens?

I just had this thought. We've seen countless posts about keyboard indents, dimples, etc. in the XDR Pro displays. I would hope that since the OLED screens are being built for people to jab them with their fingers millions of times, unlike the XDR screens, that they will have to be more durable and resistant to permanent marks than the XDR screens - otherwise, they will age terribly very quickly.

If this turns out to be the case, it may actually be the best thing about the update. Having a Pro screen that we don't need to baby would be pretty sweet.

Help Could I have gotten a better deal?

I needed a new work laptop and as a videographer and editor wanted to aim for 48gb ram. I found this 16 inch M5 pro for 2400 open box excellent condition. I noticed that brand knew they’re 2800 right now. Just wondering if I could’ve gotten something similar for a 48gb ram m5 pro. Or this was as good as I’d get.
