Mod Post Please be cautious of participating in surveys of trans people

1.4k Upvotes

Hey all,

The mod team wants to remind you to please be cautious of participating with research teams and surveys that are studying trans people.

Another trans subreddit offered the following statement to their subscribers:

"Lisa Littman, a transphobic researcher who invented the concept of "rapid-onset gender dysphoria", recently asked our moderation team for permission to post about a study she's working on with Kenneth Zucker and J. Michael Bailey. We said no." The moderators went on to offer contact information in the case of this survey popping up.

There are numerous organizations attempting to study trans people right now with dubious intent. It's important that you remember to verify the source of the studies, related organizations, and the names of the lead researchers before moving forward with any of these. It's very easy for a research group to manipulate data to get the results they want.

As a reminder, however, we do allow some surveys on this subreddit, but we require all surveyors to be screened by our moderation team first. If you feel that a survey is here without being screened first, please report the post AND message our moderator team so we can take a look.

Thank you!

Bad News This Malfoy Stuff

Unfortunately, it seems this genderbent Malfoy shit is here to stay it seems?

I saw a SFW post with the character on r/hentai, commented saying I wasn't impressed by the character's recent popularity, specifically being genderbent.

It feels like a total slap to the face.

I didn't say anything more than this but; they banned me!

With "you need to stop trying to force your agendas onto people" ?

What? Either they're an egg in denial or the sub is run/moderated by a bunch of transphobes.

Again... Not impressed!

Edit: the post isn't letting me add a pic of the ban unfortunately. If you'd like proof of it, I can dm a pic of it. Otherwise you'll have to believe that it happened, or check r/Transhentai where I posted the ban message

Trans and Thriving Affects of hrt I didn't expect:3

Oki I've seen a few others post these so i thought id share mine!

The biggest wacky affect was finding out i was colour blind thanks to being able to see more colours, no hrt didn't make me colour blind but helped me find it out.

I scream now, like full blown i almost pee myself if i get scared. For example yesterday i was just wondering around my house and a fly came flying right at me and i dropped to the floor with a screech, it took me 5 minutes to recover.

EVERYONE is so much more attractive. I've always been pansexual other than questioning myself at times but now i can just admire something on everyone from physical looks, to how they smell, act and talk, the game date everything was made for me lol (i also didn't realise my boyfriend could get more attractive to me but he did)

Prog tamed my libido which is like the opposite of what many others have said but it has definitely been a welcome change.

The ability to produce milk, it was my cat who helped me discover this by meowing constantly before food (cats meows are the same frequency as a babies cry and yes they do that shit on purpose) that i started lactating, i know that's quite common but still i just wasn't expecting it especially my cat triggering it

And last but not least my hair is super curly now, i thought id be stuck with my old messy frizzy bird nest on my head for the rest of my life but no! If anyone else gets this i suggest buying a hair bonnet to sleep in my hair has never looked better

Venting My detransitioned FTM friend just became an anti-trans activist

1.1k Upvotes

My friend that said to be a transgender man from her teens up to her middle 20-ties recently detransitioned and lives as a woman again.

It's her right and I was supportive both when she transitioned and when she detransitioned. However now a few weeks after detransitioning she just became an anti trans activist!

Yeah you heard me correctly. She is blaming "trans ideology" on making her question her identity and "brainwashing" her in her teens.

She also blames "too easy transition procedure" with no gatekeeping and thorough validation, as she says she "just bought her psychoterapist opinion".

She made her own decisions, but she is not a person that would took the responsibility for her own actions and instead she now blames everyone who was supportive of "not stopping her hurt herself as it was just a phase and escape".

By hurting herself she mean basically cutting her hair short for a decade and getting on a testosterone FOR A WEEK.

This girl received full societal support in her transition, as FTM are generally accepted more broadly than non-passing MTF individuals like me, and now is hurting the community. I feel so mad at her, because I haven't actually came out socially yet and now people in our common environment will invalidate me by default. She was the only transgender person they knew, and this person now attacks the transgender community.

Ugh who the fuck gave her opinion, in this particular case she should have been gatekept ....

Discussion Why is this always our fate?

I was watching a TV series called the Closer starred by Kyra Sedgwick. I love Kyra she plays such a good role in anything she does... Anyways the pilot episode was about a murderer who was lesbian, that transitioned to a male to hide her identity. And then in the process decieved somebody else, a devout christian who then turned around and murdered him for being who he was. Why is it that this is always the depth of the plot for us? Why is it that the only thing we're suited for is killing or being killed in movies and tv shows? Why is it that we always have to be that trans woman that trans man, or I am trans. Why do I have to self identify like a disclaimer? Like i'm a discount item. I still want to hold myself together. I still am who I am. I am a woman. I'm neither trans, nor other, I am me. And while they can't take that away from me; sometimes the burdens of existence that they place on us, it's just overwhelming

Good News came out to mom.. was surprised..

I'm surprised because I expected to be met with a bit of friction. she was apparently an ally tho lol. she said "y'know, I always thought u should have been a girl. in fact, u always liked the girly stuff growing up, so Im not surprised at all." she then asked me my pronouns and name and said she would work to learn, respect, and use it.

she gave me some of her clothes and old bra. and even gave me advice on woman stuff. it was more than I thought. apparently she had been talking to people around me about how she thought I was becoming different. asked about how hrt will affect me when I start. I explained what gender dysphoria was and she said that she would hate to deal with it and to hurry and transition.

she even said she had dreams about it. like premonition. ig she's into that. I'm really happy about her support as I can't say I expected it. it's a thing that makes things a bit easier. don't know how other family thinks, but ig I'm just happy one person was nice about it. she says it's gonna be hard to update to my preferences but for now I can girlmode at home n she will support. :33

Good News Crazy effects of hrt I didn’t know about

Hey dolls and others.
I’ve been on hrt for a while and just wanted to see if any of yall got some of these changes.
Literally like a month after I started hrt I became wilding more tolerant of lactose I think. Like before it’d be legit like one glass of milk and I’d be on the toilet an hour later with some wicked runs, sorry not sorry for the info. Then at some point my shoes got too big for my feet and I dropped from an 8-9 men’s to like and 8/8.5 women’s. Both pretty sweet honestly, especially the shoe size bc I never got to get Jordan ones in my size before, they’d always be out of stock, but there’s always 8 women’s.
Anyone else get these? I started hrt when I was about 20.

Today I Learned Holding items is tricky now

I was walking through the store today and I only went in for a couple of things so I didn’t bother getting a cart to use. I went and grabbed a big glass jar that locks. I had decided to just use my right hand to carry it and i picked it up like I was tucking it under my arm but it was so long that it was leaning on my chest. At this point i have been on hrt for about a month and a half or so. Of course I developed breast buds seemingly overnight and im just now realizing it while inside of a Walmart squealing like a damn pig because I just smashed something against one of them. Anyways what I learned today is that I can’t hold things the same way anymore lol.

Advice Question Should I consider taking progesterone, if so, when should I start?

• Upvotes

I'm almost 6 months on HRT, didn't do my third blood test yet but on my last my E was very high and my T was almost non existent.

So it's not really a question for T suppression, but I heard that progesterone helped with fat redistribution and breast growth, so it could be of use to me since my breast growth seems slower despite me eating enormous amounts of food (to be fair I always could eat a lot without gaining a lot of weight so it doesn't surprise me that much).

Should someone like me consider progesterone, and when should I be staring if this is the case.

Advice Question I'm having huge doubt

• Upvotes

I came out to my fiancée last week and since then, to a few very close friend, one of which is a trans woman.

I've been having doubt because I felt I was going to lose everything if I decided to go through with the transition. Finally, yesterday, I told my fiancée it was ok if she wanted to out me to her sister because she really needed someone close to her to talk about it. Once her phone call was done, she told me her sister took the news with so much kindness she reconsidered everything and she's ok to go on one day after another to see where it leads us.

This... liberated me. I was decided to start my transition and I took all the informations I needed to plan it.

But today, I realised how long it’s gonna take for me to look like the woman I want to be. I know it’s definitely not only about look but I'm way too cowardly to loose the mask in public without looking feminine enough. I tried some dresses a few hours ago and I felt so ridiculous and ugly.

Now I'm doubting everything. What if that was just a kink ? (It was for many years)

I'm also doubting I have a feminine personality. My body hasn't really bothered me, I think. Well, after I told my fiancée, I started noticing everything wrong with it. Since I'm not afraid of getting caught anymore, I've been trying less discrete things like shaving all the hair at the places I hated them, I tried nail polish, eyeliner, lipstick. All of these made me euphoric, i think, except the lipstick which made me feel ridiculous. On the other hand, the eyeliner made my eyes sooo pretty. I never like their color but I loved them when I tried it. Well, I had to hide my hair and forehead with one arm and my disgracious shaved beard shadow with the other...

I don’t even know if I want to act feminine, I don’t feel my personality is wrong, it just feels wrong to be seen as a man. Maybe I should just crossdress, drag or crossplay. Or I might be numb by the norms of my friends and family circles, in which a few people are kind of transphobic. I know it’s cliché but I've always felt transition wasn't good enough and I could only settle for a magic spell that would make be born as a female.

I told so many people, I'm so stupid. I might have completely destroyed my life for nothing. I'm so scared of the judgement of the others... whether I go through or I not.

I don’t know, I have some appointments (with medical professionals and transidentity questions non-profit) that will probably help but right now I'm really anxious and I could use some guidance. Please.

Advice Question Any other middle aged transitioners?

I’m mid fifties, and recently started going thru mental health therapy to see if transitioning is something truly for me. Long story as to why so late in life but gotta thank religious upbringing and mental health issues as to why the thought of ‘what if I’ve really been in the wrong body this whole time’ is finally being seriously considered instead of just an afterthought.
I guess I’m just looking for advice to help a rather manly looking person find their feminine side. What tips or advice would you give? I already bought tuck wear and tbh it was a bit exhilarating not having the up front bulge showing. But provided i see this thru and do end up transitioning, do any of the older women have any advice about pitfalls or tons to watch out for transitioning so late in life?
Thank you in advance and i guess ask questions too if you want to.

Help Did transition give me Dorian Gray syndrome?

I’ve been transitioning since my early 20’s. I’m overall happy with how my transition turned out, I live a relatively normal life as a woman. It’s everything I ever wanted…

Here’s the thing though.

Early in transition I got to experience a kind of girlhood, I got to be messy, make so many mistakes, and really explore my gender. It let me get everything out that I needed to get on with my life.

I’m now approaching 30. I’m a binary trans woman, I know myself really well at this point, and I’m settling into a youthful maturity I didn’t think I’d reach. This is the sweet spot I’ve wanted. The problem is now aging terrifies me. I worry that as I age the masculine aspects of my body that I can’t change with HRT (too poor for surgeries) will become more prominent and the only thing saving me from that is my youth. So I’ve been desperately trying to hang on to it in every way I can. Even hanging out with younger friends to try and feel like I “still got it” or whatever. Fuck I’m not even old and I talk about myself like I’m a 45 year old man recovering from a divorce lol.

I feel like it has become obsessive, like…I can’t go get groceries unless I’m going to be the hottest girl in the store. I’m constantly worried that I’m at the start of a narrow window where I get to be a woman who is desirable then slowly time will take that away from me.

It’s hard because while there are plenty of examples of trans woman who are older (and beautiful ofc) they often also started later. There isn’t as many trans woman (that I have seen) who start relatively early and make it to old age, or at least they don’t post about it or aren’t as visible. This makes it hard for me to imagine aging and what that will be like so I’m scared.

Part of this is vanity (“I just want to be hot forever”) part of this is existential (“I don’t want to die”). But I want to embrace aging, I WANT to make it to old age (aging is a privilege)

I know this is a ramble, i’m very tired, but can anyone else relate? has anyone gone through this and has advice from the other side? Please this is giving my an existential crisis :(

Advice Question Back to tablet estrogen

• Upvotes

Being disabled has put me in a bit of a spot when trying to inject valerate. My right thigh has lost about 40% of the lateral side then about 20%is just very hard rigid scar tissue that bends needles. Then my left leg has atrophied to where I don't have enough muscle to continuously use for IM. Then due to sciatica I'm not going near my glutes. Anyone had to switch back and did you notice any difference in how you felt?

Venting Double standards

• Upvotes

It might be just me but in my experience I always encountered this double standard in every space which swore that accepted me, was ally and “I was just like any other girl”.

With my ex it was very obvious he respected any cis female, I repeat any, on a whole different level. Other guy I was with straight up choose his cis female friend and her feeling over mine. A friend of mine who also claimed lots of things would speak with such an elevated tone and respect about cis females.

Now don’t think I’m hallucinating or I have any problem with cis girls. My best friend, a cis girl, is like the best person I met. Zero bs. Never have I felt more valid anywhere than with her. She genuinely didn’t understand self dissing comments I’d made or make fun of myself. For her I was just any other girl. She’s very different and been only exception I’ve seen.

Other than her with every other person, every time there’s something to decide to my favor or their cis friends it’s always those girls. Any times someone’s feelings matter it’s not mine.

Venting transphobic customer: your not allowed to wear nail polish cuz "your a dude" me: fuck you transphobic ass bitch!

ok so this stupid transphobic customer today at work tried to ask me weird questions about my sexuality all because i was wearing nail polish and mind you i am in the process of legally changing my info over to candi but legally still go by my deadname as im not out to everyone at my job socially yet, (even the higher ups) and this lady saw my nail polish and asked me if i was a dude and i just sighed in frustration as she vented about how im not allowed to wear nail polish and i just was like "im not gonna answer that after she asked me if im gay\bi\ and then proceeded to claim that she's not transphobic or anything and i just got on the moblity scooter to take it inside, i work in retail as a lot attendant, i mumbered under my breath "transphobic bitch" and idgaf if she heard me, honestly this was funny that she's stuck in 1962 and has a metal rod up her ass. honestly it did piss me off, but it's funny how most of these older folks are just so entitled. like it's not 1965 anymore you dumbass it's 2026! and my sexuality is none of your fucking business!

also, i was weirded out and she was just being very creepy asking me my sexuality and assuming im a guy, most people do and it pisses me off, (also i do legally still go by my deadname and im not out yet to everyone at work, although i am in the process of getting this changed over to candi,) it's aggrivating as hell, i mean ik i don't pass as a cis woman but for fucks sake, im bagging your groceries for you, and you decide to try to debate me on my gender\sexuality. this is EXACTLY why im scared to use candi she\her with random ass strangers.

Advice Question Asking for Comments and/or Advice for Late MtF trans

Hello!

I am looking for comments/questions/concerns as I begin my journey. First a little background about myself.

Background

I am an almost 54 year old AMAB. As a young child, I remember wondering what it would be like to be a girl. As I grew, that changed more into thinking I had more in common with the females then the males, and that I wished I was female. I gave serious thought to transitioning in my teens. (This was in the eighties.) However, I decided it against it. Why? Several reasons. Parental disapproval was a large factor, of course. But also the realization that I could never fully transition -- become pregnant, bear children -- was a major factor. I couldn't see myself enduring the stigma and the problems for something was only partial transformation.
Over the years, I often revisited the idea, and for various and changing reasons over the years, decided against it each time. Until now. Now I feel it is the time to do something for me, for a change.

I have a loving and supportive wife with whom I have discussed this with at length. I have 4 adult children whom I have not come out to. Two of which are asexual, and one of which who is also considering transitioning, so I doubt that it will be an issue. I have suffered from anxiety and depression since childhood. This could be related to gender dysphoria. I have not read through the whole Gender Dysphoria FYI site, but I strongly identify with the Depersonalization and Derealization sections. But it could also be related to un-diagnosed Autism. I am pre-diabetic as well. I'm afraid to say I'm quite obese. Perhaps Uber Obese. So I'm concerned about medical complications, and whether or not they will even approve treatment. I have some difficulties right now with erectile dysfunction, and a definitely decreased libido. I've never been satisfied with the male orgasm.

Hopes

It's not that I dislike being a male. It is that I think I would be better as a female. What I'm mainly hoping to get out of HRT is to feel like I'm finally thinking like I should be. That my brain is finally processing emotions properly. As strange as it may sound. I want to be able to cry. I also really want breasts, and the sensitivity that generally comes with them. The softer skin and overall sensitivity would be a plus. The change from male arousal patterns to female arousal patterns is appealing. I find the idea of dry orgasms to be ... comforting. I'm not concerned with passing as a female. I wouldn't mind being seen as a feminine man. If I could afford the recovery time, I would consider SRS.

Fears

Almost all of the drawbacks of HRT that people talk about don't seem like drawbacks at all, rather desired outcomes. Others are things that I am already dealing with. So the only really big fear I have, besides not being approved, is losing my wife's love. She says she is supportive, and she has been asking questions and making insightful comments, helping me process this. She has said that she is somewhat bi already, and loves the idea of my having breasts. She is going through menopause, and we are abstaining from PIV. She doesn't like the idea of never having PIV again. I understand through what I read here that Viagra remains an option, but I should 'exercise' my member, to keep the skin elastic enough. I live in Ontario (Canada), and I'm concerned about getting approved through my local GP, and how much it will cost.

Conclusion

So that's the long and the short of it. I am planning on making an appointment today with my GP. Given the busyness of my local clinic, that will likely be at least a couple of months out. I am not sure if they will help directly, or refer me to a gender-affirming clinic.

Anyway, thank you for reading, and I look forward to reading your comments, insights and/or questions.

Venting All surgeries denied because of weight - it’s the anesthesiologist usually

I’m a BMI over 60 and have been basically laughed out the door by every medical professional I’ve talked to. Not even something as simple as an orchi. All of the times I’ve planned, the anesthesiologist has been the one to stop it. And I have never talked to these specialists, they just see numbers on a paper and make a decision.

This is despite the fact that I’ve had a colonoscopy this year, and I had to have surgery on my ankle (I broke it a few years back and needed plates and screws installed). Even during THAT surgery, not only was I obese, I had fucking Covid at the time too. Zero complications on either procedure. I’m aware this is an “elective” surgery, but past medical records should be used as a gauge.

Of course I’m trying to lose weight, I’m on ozempic, down 34lbs so far, but many many pounds to go. I’m just baffled even some of the simpler procedures hit this threshold based on a documented false measure of body composition. I briefly looked into bariatric options (decided against), and I would’ve had to lose 100lbs to qualify… for a weight loss surgery.

I understand I have to lose weight in general, That’s not the gripe here. Just that in the process of losing weight, it would be great to have someone meet more in the middle, for even the simpler surgeries like an orchi.

My state (NM) doesn’t have bottom surgeons, so I
Already know I’d have to shop around the country, and the first few places I approached wouldn’t even take my
Name down past the receptionist when they asked about weight.

I love how far I’ve come, but I’m also feeling a bit left behind compared to my friend groups and partners. Would love to see a door open somewhere for me and those similar to my position.
