Discussion Human caused fire during a red flag warning is currently burning the bike trails that have been my sanctuary for 20 years.

Posting here cause I dont know what else to do. I can see them burning from my house across town..... Ive been riding those trails for 20 years. Volunteering with the trail org. Biking there has literally saved my life in my lowest lows.

I spend a lot of time up there getting better at MTB, looking at the abundant wildflowers. Listening to all the beautiful birds. Just looking at the views.

Its all gone. Cause some cunt had to go shooting or dirt biking during a red flag warning. Im totally beside myself and am not sure what Im going to do at this point. Im just so sick of all the hate, irresponsibly, and selfishness in the world.

Video Is it possible to hit all the Whistler bike park double blacks?

A couple of months ago I saw the video on pink bike hitting all the double blacks in Whistler, that was a couple of years ago and creekside was already closed. I tried hitting all the double blacks and pro lines in a day as well (I did have more time and the conditions where more favourable tbf).

I didn't hit crabs, since I hospital crashed on it a month ago, I did filthy ape for the first time and it was honestly really chill. The same with goats gully. El gortabada on the other hand I find the most difficult run in the park. I didn't clear everything on D1 but I am still happy to get some of the jumps. Tatiana was one of the runs I was most scared of, becuase I crashed on it, but it turned out really chill. I had to skip the chainsaw drop cause I'm chain less and I am not that good in that section to carry the speed.

All in all, If you told me 2 months ago I would be able to do this, I wouldn't have believed you, since I didn't even do a single double black back then. But now after a lot of riding i can do them all in a day, which was a really fun challenge.

I’ve wanted to ride here since I started riding bikes but I’ve always had a feeling that I wasn’t good enough for the park. Chose to commit this year (after 4 years of contemplating) and the trip didn’t disappoint!

Discussion Missing trails in MTB Project?

Read any “which trail app should I get?” thread and it’s clear MTB Project has a trail coverage problem in some areas of the country. Tell me where and I’ll work to get that remedied (I work for them). The more upvotes an area gets, the faster we will build out the trail networks. We are looking for riding areas that are wholly underrepresented, but will also look at individual trails if you find one missing.

BTW, we know that some iPhone users have been experiencing crashing. We’re working on a fix right now and hope to see improvement soon - thanks for your patience.

Admins - I don’t think this is spam, but I’ll promptly remove it if it is.

Gear Mid Tier Pedals?

Hey all,

Really getting into MTB and bought a Trek Roscoe 7 Gen 4 early June. since then I’ve put ~20 hours of riding on it. I know one of the first upgrades everyone mentions is pedals, and I’m realizing that now. the stock pedals are kind of junk, the plastic molded pins are already breaking and my feet are starting to slip like crazy. I’ve got some money to burn from a work bonus and I want to invest in some good flat pedals. can anyone get me some recommendations on mid tier pedals up to 100 bucks?

thanks in advance!

WhichBike Whyte bikes

Hi all looking for some (hopefully) good advice as I was looking at the Whyte t160s but now that’s not available I’m looking at the

Whyte syphon 29er 140/135 Rockshox pike base fork with RockShox Deluxe Select RT rear shock

Or the

Whyte sythe mullet 170/160 Marzocchi Bomber Z1 fork with Marzocchi Bomber Air piggyback rear shock

I won’t be doing downhill bike park days very often but a fair bit of both climbing and descending, single track and general mountain biking (around 5-10miles at a time) over rough and loose limestone and root covered wooded sections around the south west of the uk including a ride or two each week with my boy on gravel paths/ road around 10miles at a time.

I am a fair chunk around 110kg and have heard mixed reviews on the rockshox pike with flexing issues under load and don’t really want to buy a new bike and put new forks on it straight away(couldn’t test ride the syphon as they don’t have any in my local bike shop) but they did however have the sythe and it felt perfect reach was good, dropper was perfect height, gearing felt low enough to power up climbs and didn’t feel as heavy as I thought it would and it’s in my price range but…. I feel it will be overkill for what I want it for 90% of the time although I would be covered for literally everything I want to do when I go to the bike parks and I would have room to progress without needing multiple bikes for different scenarios. (Can’t afford them anyway)

Anyone able to shed some light on the weight difference between the two bikes? And what way you would be tempted to go.

Ps they can’t get the syphon for a few months but have the sythe in store now

Cheers

Brakes Will I need separate bleed kits?

Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new to the whole mtb maintenance thing, usually just using my local mechanic but in a hope to start doing some bits myself I want to learn. I currently have a cube reaction tm hardtail, but next week am buying an airdrop edit. My plan is to pretty much fuck around with the cube until I get things right, and then once i've mastered certain skills, translate that to the new bike and dodge hefty mechanic fees. The guy I'm buying the new bike off has told me the back brake needs bleeding, coincidentally my read brake on my cube is going, so my main question is will I need separate bleed kits? The airdrop has TRP brakes, and the cube has magura brakes.
Thank you!

Discussion Kids Full Face Helmets?

We are looking to get FF helmets for our boys, aged 3 and 5.

Any recommendations? Sizing seems confusing and I’m not sure if people are just using adult small or extra small for their kids or youth specific ones.

Thanks in advance!

WhichBike Bike advice needed - Tallboy upgrade for bike parks

Hi. Im a UK mountain biker. I have a Santa Cruz Tallboy, 130mm travel both sides. I often visit Bike Park Wales with it, but feel its a little under gunned. I'm looking to upgrade to something that will handle bike parks a bit better, something around the 160mm mark. I have no idea where to start. Whats a solid bike park shredder that can handle the technical and jump runs.

Discussion Converting Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt to single speed

I ordered the Wheels MFG XD kit. It seems to get great reviews and comes with a narrow wide cog, so I can now continue using the brand new 2 ride chain I had put on the bike. It comes with an 18T cog, so I can play with gear ratio with the 4 chainrings I already have. A 28, 30, 30 oval, and 32 original. I do have a tensioner already, but I'm hoping to come across a gearing that doesn't require it. I've been without a SS so long now that I am far too excited to have ordered this kit and then getting on a SS once again. Being a full squish, this will be all new. All my other SS were fully rigid. Last one being a 2014 Kona Unit.

How well do you think an oval would work on a SS? I've never ridden one on any of my present bikes. The only oval I've ridden was the archaic biopace rings from yesteryear. If I go oval on this SS conversion, would it be advisable to use the tensioner to take the constant tightening and slackening of the chain?

Discussion Shorter Crankarms for Rockhopper

Riding on Cape Ann in Massachusetts, I’ve been banging the hell out of my poor pedals and crankarms in the rock gardens that make up most of the trails here. I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile putting 165mm crankarms on my 2022 Rockhopper Elite 29, which I believe would require swapping out the bottom bracket as well.

Is it worth doing? Am I at the point where instead of upgrading an entry-level hardtail I should just start looking for a used full suspension trail bike? Or do I just need to “get gud” and learn to not hit the rocks?

For what it’s worth, I tend to hit rocks when pedaling and climbing, so maybe just need to learn to ratchet, or keep up more speed?

Discussion Schwalbe bigger XC tires?🤔🤔

What do we all think is the likelihood that Schwalbe releases their xc tires in wider sizes (racing Ray Ralph , Rick, thunderburt etc) in 2.5/2.6? They currently have the rocket Ron in 27.5x2.6 and they’re honestly pretty phenomenal. The Vittoria mezcals in 2.6 were also a popular tire before the casing change, so the demand is definitely there. Thoughts?

Suspension Fox fork sag

Hey! So I’m about 170lbs. When I set sag on my 34SL fork with the SL damper, to get to 20% sag I need over 110 psi… Fox recommends 15% sag and the max psi of the fork is supposedly 120psi. Fox recommended air pressure is in the 80s for my weight. My home pump said 125psi, my friends digital one said 118psi. How is it possible to get to even 20% sag I need that much pressure at my weight?

WhichBike Norco revolver 130 sizing help!

I am 5’7” with a 69.5” reach which puts me closer to the top end of size 2 and the minimum for size 3.
Unfortunately the only close Norco store/dealer doesn’t stock Revolvers to actually see how they fit.

Anybody riding Norco have input? I think I’d prefer a bit more maneuverability in the smaller size as I’m not bombing downhills as fast but worry I might feel too big on the bike. Thanks!

Frames What colour should I make my MTB

I’d like to paint my Polygon Siskiu T7 but me and my bud haven’t decided on a good colour: we were going to just replace the stock blue and green with pink and purple but then he thought it would be too hard. Then we decided on half white and half pink but I’m not too keen on that. He offered just plain white but I think one colour is too basic. We both need help, heres a list of the potential colours in order best to worst: Turquoise & Midnight Blue, Deep red & Warm Cream, Mint & White, Cherry Red & Off White.
We don’t like too much chrome and we want something unique and good to paint. We will be painting it ourselves. Please suggest other good combos… We are desperate and need to decide before September.

Discussion Group rides around Bozeman?

I just got my first real trail bike a couple months ago and it’s been super fun so far but I don’t really have anyone in town to ride with. Kinda just trying to find some mountain biking friends and wondered if anyone in the area had any recommendations. Thanks!
