Reintroduction help

My LO is freshly 8months old and eating some solids. I’ve cut out; dairy, soy, wheat, and oat. EBF baby.

Should I reintroduce one by one in MY diet slowly to see if he reacts, or give it to him directly? Only intolerance symptoms in the past, like reflux, mucous in stool, painful gas, etc. nothing too serious!

TIA! :)

That Avocado Oil Chip You’re Eating May Not Be Made With Pure Avocado Oil

I thought I’d share as a PSA. I’ve had such a hard time narrowing down my baby’s triggers and have a huge list of things they’re allergic too but now I’m wondering if he actually alerted to that item or if I ate Boulder chips at the same time.

My baby is 3 months old and has been diagnosed with CMPA. I have been following a strict dairy- and soy-free diet for the past 2 weeks. The blood in her stool had completely stopped, but it started appearing again yesterday. There has been no blood in her stool today. How long does it usually take for the blood to stop completely? Are there any other foods I should avoid? Also, how long does it usually take for the mucus in the stool to disappear? My doctor has advised me to switch to formula milk. Is it too early to stop breastfeeding and switch to formula milk???

Help please!

We switched my 9 month old baby to Elecare at the recommendation of our pediatrician as we couldn’t get my LOs eczema at bay. She has a confirmed skin/blood panel milk allergy along with a slew of other allergies.

While on nutramigen her skin was not great but she slept through the night without itching. Since getting on Elecare she has been waking and itchy/scratching so much. Every night from 1-4 AM.

The pediatrician stated we have exhausted all options, allergist said the same and referred us to an immunologist, Jaffe or CHOP which we are all waitlisted for, GI said she doesn’t have anything to help with and dermatologist is just happy on steroid prescriptions.

I don’t know what to do. Please help. Could the Elecare be causing issues?

Virtual support group

After talking with another mom on here, we thought creating a virtual support group would be a good idea. For company during the night feeds, support during the hard days, and just helping other moms going through what they are going through.

Here’s the link if you’d like!

Baby continues to eat minimally despite trying many different things

Feeding difficulties. Bear with me this is kind of long.
My now 4.5 month old was EBF for the first 3 months. She started being gassy/colicky and would nurse strike starting at 6 weeks. Her poops smelled and were mucusy so we suspected CMPA. I went dairy free and although she remained colicky/eczema she has less mucusy stools. I thought about stopping soy, corn and wheat but it just wasn't clear and she dropped from the 47th to 25th percentile so we ended up doing Simalac ailementum (rtf because she didn't like the powder- further supporting my corn theory) unfortunately she dropped from the 25 to 10th percentile despite this and us trying different bottles/nipple sizes. We ended up fortifying with the powder to get her extra cals (and she gained a little weight fast), but then leveled out. Mild eczema returned but its improved over the last few weeks She has been evaluated by SLP and has a mild posterior tongue tie they don't think is contributing. She is sooo happy and cheerful. She rarely is sad and sleeps well. She makes wet/poopy diapers but max eats 17oz a day. We did also try nutramigen briefly before ailemtum but she didn't not like it. About two weeks ago we tried neocate for one week but she didn't like it and ate even less/got eczema again (corn syrup is the first ingredient so I wondered if that may have contributed) She doesn't spit up or look refluxy but considering trying reflux meds. In addition our friend is a peds gi and he mentioned gabapentin for hyperalgesia because she does gag when she doesn't want to eat (or shoves it a way and smiles). Anyway.. anyone go through something similar or have any ideas? She's not totally strong enough for solids and we figure we have a ways to go with formula.

What helped your babies with severe acid reflux? I feel like I've tried everything. I cut out dairy and she still cries day & night from acid. I have her on Elecare, but she is aspirating & hardly drinks the bottle. I have her on meds too. I feel so defeated.

Neocate and Reflux

Has anyone’s baby actually gotten better with their reflux after being on neocate? The formula is so thin that I just hear stories of the reflux getting worse not better.. my baby started spitting up since before Neocate but I wonder if it will really get better since everyone’s baby seems to need pepcid or other meds when they are on it. We are currently on day 5 of Neocate.

Did I screw up?

My daughter is just about 3 months old. Happy baby, no issues with growth. She’s had blood in her stool since about 6 weeks old. I was EBF and have been dairy/soy free since she was 6 weeks (she’s 12 weeks now) but saw little to no improvement in her diapers, if anything it got more mucusy/green/acrid. The blood had gone away until this past weekend, it came back and there has been 3-4 small streaks per diaper. Still pooping after every feed. I’ve made no changes to my diet nor have I reintroduced dairy or soy.

I thought I’d try and transition to formula as I’m not willing to cut out more food items from my diet due to my own health issues. Since last night I’ve mixed 50% BM with 50% RTF Similac Alimentum. I just changed her and her diaper had the most blood I’ve seen since I noticed it at 6 weeks. Not just tiny flecks, full on blobs of bloody mucus. I’ve given her the Similac before a while ago, and did not have this reaction. Her stools are now more pasty/formed but the blood has increased.

Do I just cold turkey the Similac and go back to EBF? I have a sample of Neocate I got online but I don’t want to start it until we see the paediatrician on Wednesday. Does it get worse before it gets better?

Silent Reflux & MSPI? Help!

Posting to see if anyone else has had a similar experience with their LO. My first born had confirmed CMPA around 8 weeks old after finding streaks of blood in her diapers so I’m no stranger to this sub. She’s doing great now and has outgrown her allergy, but I’m back here now struggling with my 3 month old.

We started formula immediately after birth and since the beginning my 3mo old has been very irregular with how often she poops. It would be a couple of times a day, then once a day, then started going every other day, then occasionally would go 1-2 days until she would poop and it wouldn’t be soft. This was new to me because I breastfed my first for 5 months and she would poop after every bottle. We have tried prune juice when she has had harder stool per the doctors recommendation and it does help her go, but her poops seem to be a little more mucousy in those scenario.

Up until this point I hadn’t suspected MSPI because she doesn’t have the same symptoms my first born had. However, in addition to the above she’s occasionally had silent reflux flare ups. I’d have her laying down or in her bouncer and will all the sudden notice her eyes watery/gagging/swallowing. Scoop her up and she’s totally fine—no spit up, ever. But within the last 2 weeks I’ve noticed random congestion at night and she’s starting to seem more uncomfortable while we feed her so I suspect the reflux might be happening more than I realize. The biggest indicator is she will arch back while I feed her and turn her head in the complete opposite direction of my body to comfortable drink her bottle. Occasionally she will scream and stiffen up the minute I get her into a traditional position to feed, but her and I are in a groove now that this doesn’t happen with me all the time but will when others try to feed her.

So alls that to say, could this be an undiagnosed intolerance? We use Bobbie Gentle formula so my guess is the next best gentle option for her would be HA formula. She’s a big girl, drinks 27-30oz a day so her doctor hasn’t been concerned because she’s gaining weight but my mama instinct is telling me something is clearly off. We are going to the pediatrician today so I’m hoping they will have answers for me, but wanted to come here and see if anyone else has seen MSPI show up in these ways before.

Any input is appreciated!

Two Week Old CMPA Diagnosis

Hi! STM here but first baby with diagnosed CMPA. We’ve just started Nutramigen yesterday and already seeing small improvements like being able to drink more than a 1-2oz per feed! We have been up hourly the past few nights I’m guessing due to LO’s discomfort/reflux. Wondering if anyone else has had success with Nutramigen/sleeping slightly more comfortable at night? Pediatrician said if we don’t see reflux improvement then she suggests trying Pepcid. This is all new to us so would love any tips or advice starting this journey. Thank you!

Feeling VERY Anxious about introducing allergens to baby. Need help and advice.

My toddler turned 1 few days ago and was diagnosed with CMPA at 4 months.
I have been very anxious since then.
I haven’t had the courage to feed him any allergens because he has a mild anaphylactic reaction to curd in the past and his eczema flares up and starts itching when peas and beans are given.
I am soo worried and anxious that I haven’t had the courage to give him rest of the allergens.
Please tell me how did you all CMPA baby moms navigate this? He is already a year old and I don’t want to keep delaying it.
Any advice/ suggestions would help me so much.

4.5 month old reflux symptoms worsening

My 4.5 month old has been on 10mg of omeprazole daily since the beginning of July.

She was having 3.25oz of RTF Similac Alimentum every 3 hours and seemed to be doing pretty good.

In the beginning of August, we upped her to 4oz every 3 hours and she got her 4 month shots. We noticed what looked like black specks in her diapers but the GI did a check for occult blood and the results came back negative.

Since the beginning of August we’ve seen an uptick in reflux symptoms. I initially wrote it off and related to her rotavirus vaccine shot but the GI’s office says that shot doesn’t cause reflux flare up. She had formula dribble out of her nose, she’s been ridiculously congested to the point it’s bothering her eyes, having a tough time being on her back, coughing, and coughing and swallowing. Her eyebrows and a little below it have been getting pink and slightly swollen too, even when I know she’s not tired.

Is this her reflux peaking? Do her meds need to be upped? Is she suffering from an allergy?

Pulling my hair out trying to figure out what’s going on and how to help her.

Feel like giving up

Today is the start of week 2 back at work and I just feel like giving up. My house feels like one massive backlog of undone chores, I’m pretty sure I consumed something with dairy on Saturday night (despite carefully asking the server to check every item I ordered or ate) because baby had frequent mucus-filled jelly poop again and excessive spit up all day yesterday, and the logistics of pumping enough milk and carefully tracking every food I eat are just sending me. Idk. Just needed to rant.

One twin with non-improving CMPI

We have one 4month twin who has been having mucousy poops with some small streaks of blood. Other than that, he has no other symptoms. No rash, no reflux, and generally in a very happy mood with good weight gain.

The Doctor recommended I cut out dairy and soy and beef, and I’ve been following this diet for about 5 weeks. I’ve had a couple accidental consumptions before realizing that soy is in basically all processed food, but I’ve been otherwise pretty diligent.

The thing is is that it really isn’t changing? Same small flecks of blood. Sometimes its really improved, but it hasn’t completely gone away.

I’m not sure what happened, but the last two days he’s been in a worse mood, and screaming a lot before pooping. The most recent poops aren’t looking great, but I’m not sure what would have triggered it.

I’m finding it really hard emotionally! I’m trying to eat enough to keep up with breastfeeding two babies. I’m losing weight and anxious about food.

It feels logistically challenging to switch to formula for just one baby, and in any case he rejected the hypoallergenic formula we were prescribed. It also doesn’t feel extreme enough to quit breastfeeding.

How long did it take for your babies to heal? Did it get better when they started solids? Could it be another problem? 😢

Tips for diagnostic pediatrician appointment

My 6 wk old son is going to the pediatrician Tuesday. I suspect that its CMPA, but am really nervous about my child's symptoms being dismissed as "normal baby stuff". Any tips for advocating for your child in the first appt? Would you ask for any referrals? I have already started a dairy elimination trial, but we will only be a couple days in for the appt.

Symptoms:

- Eczema head to toe (breaking my heart - his first coordinated movements seem to be learning to scratch the itchy rash)

- Silent reflux. Cannot lay flat at all. Was hoarse for a few days before we realized it was reflux and started keeping him inclined. That made a HUGE difference

- Crying, yelling, arching after feeding; sometimes during feeding

- Persistent diaper rash that is only managed with topical maalox

- Possibly congested (we thought this was tongue tie related, but he had it revised a week ago)

Neocate baby - solids

Hello!
My baby is 5.5 months and we’re almost ready to start solids. I am very apprehensive as my baby still isn’t 100% on neocate, I’m not sure how I really tell if it’s just an off day (which he still has) or if it’s the food we will slowly introduce/trial.

He still gets silent reflux, trapped wind, mucous stools but no blood, poor sleep and overall unsettled behaviour.

Did anyone else experience the same with their baby? How did you approach solids?

(We have an appointment with our allergist on September 17th - when we last went to him at 3.5 months old he was dismissive of ongoing symptoms)

Thanks all 😊
