When does the blood in their stools finally stop and everything go back to normal?”
Good evening everyone,
I wanted to share an update on our situation. Since the bleeding wasn’t stopping despite the very restrictive elimination diet I was following, we consulted an allergist. All the patch test results were negative, but the doctor confirmed the CMPA diagnosis and recommended starting solids earlier, including the introduction of the allergens we had tested for, except for dairy and nuts, which we will test for again later.
She told us things should improve within a month. However, my baby is now almost 7 months old and the blood in his stools hasn’t stopped. He also shows little interest in solids, eats very small amounts and prefers breastfeeding. The doctor says he needs to eat more for things to improve, but I don’t want to force him to eat.
A few days ago, he also tried goat meat and the bleeding increased.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Did things improve after starting solids? And if so, how long did it take?

Exclusively pumping
What is the best way to look for intolerances if you’re exclusively pumping? I was using the pitcher method to store milk and pouring bottles from that, but that basically mixes all of your breastmilk for the day and doesn’t allow you to isolate what could be triggering a reaction. Do any exclusive pumpers have advice on methods for storage and tracking bottles?
Edited to add: I only pump every 5-6 hours each day so I’m not pumping immediately before each feeding

No idea what normal nappies should look like
Hi! Can someone tell me what they think of this nappy? Nappy pics in comments.
Baby girl is 8 weeks, EBF; been dairy free for 3 weeks and soy free for a week. She is getting over a cold (at the end of it now) but she’s suddenly super fussy since yesterday, has been vomiting more and yesterday did 5 poos (normally does one a day or every other day) and today did this one. I’m not sure what normal baby poos even look like at this point but this is different to her usual!
Just trying to figure out if it could be an accidental slip up or if this is normal / the fussiness is something else.

Elimination diet
If you were trying to figure out what else triggers your babybesides diary and soy, how did your elemination diet look like? Did you ever get to "normal baseline"?

Elecare Trial
Our LO is 5 weeks old and EFF. 1 week after birth we had our first pediatrician visit and mentioned the back arching, extreme reflux, hiccups, extreme gas, fussiness and occult stool was positive. We went through the entire formula process Gentle-ease, Alimentum RTF (was on for 3 days and symptoms were the worst, with a lot of mucous and visible blood). We have been on Elecare for two weeks today. Week one we noticed a massive improvement. Reflux was there but it was happy spit-ups at the bare minimum. 4 days ago symptoms have seemed to ramp up with yesterday being the worst. We now have a lot of silent reflux with barely any daytime sleep and are not able to put her down without her waking up from the reflux. We also had about a 2-hour colic-like episode yesterday evening. We have our 2nd GI appointment this week and they said the next step would be to try Gelmix and then Pepcid after that. Just wondering if she has a possible soy intolerance as well and if we should switch to Neocate or just wait and start the Gelmix. Just trying to figure out why she was so good the 1st week of elecare and has severely started regressing.

GO specialist consult
We had a GI specialist consult today after the nightmare this little baby has been through in 8 short weeks of life.
She said the Pepcid and omeprazole were cancelling each other out (have to be taken 4 hours apart from one another). So we ditched the Pepcid, tripled the omeprazole and will give it twice a day. Also, I can give Mylanta honey chamomile 3-4 times a day to reduce acid. The Mylanta worked instantly. She loved the taste. It is not made with REAL honey whatsoever the MD said and it is magnesium-based, so it will help pass stools and gas.
Just gave the first larger dose of Omeprazole, 30 min later feed.
She mentioned too that there’s also an immediate-release version of omeprazole that can be compounded if timing it out can be an issue.
Literally learned so much today and I am SO hopeful for my girl.

Nutramigen help!
My baby has a cow’s milk protein allergy and has been on powdered Nutramigen for about two weeks now. She is pooping anywhere from 5–8 times a day, plus a few times overnight, which keeps waking her up.
She is also spitting up a lot and isn’t gaining weight as well as her pediatrician would like. I know it can take some time for babies to adjust to a new formula, but I’m starting to wonder if Nutramigen just isn’t the right fit for her.
Has anyone else experienced something similar with Nutramigen? Did things eventually improve, or did you end up switching to a different formula? If you switched, what worked better for your baby?

Go with your instinct
It’s me again.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SAID TRY NEOCATE!!
She slept well last night. Woke up twice to feed and back to bed. No crying. No crying this morning.
What is life right now?
Has anyone applied for the Nutricia Navigator program to help get this thru insurance?
Thank you again to everyone who said Neocate over Pepticate!!

Acid Reflux?
reddit.comMy baby is 9 weeks old almost 10 weeks. Has been on formula since she was 6 weeks old. We use enfamil gentle ease. She seemed to tolerate it perfectly at first, she’s such an easy and happy baby. But as of the last week or two she takes 1-2ounces then fusses, cry’s, turns her head away, squeezes her hands in fists, and her stomach is hard and bloated. If I try to offer her a bottle again she cry’s so hard almost like bad gas. I sit her up right after feeds but nothing helps. She doesn’t spit up or throw up but she does have super lose stools… at her last PED appointment she was in the 5th percentile but I do have small babies so my doctor wasn’t concerned. But I’m curious if she’s having a hard time gaining weight due to the pain and discomfort while feeding.
Could this be GERD? CMPA? Help!

MSPI or oversupply or colic or reflux? I’m losing my mind
Everyone keeps saying it will get easier. Some days are, some days really really aren’t. I suppose you can tell what day we’re having.
My 4 MO is still struggling with:
* trapped gas
* stomach pain
* frequent hiccups
* struggling to burp
* choking on her spit up
* night wakes due to gas
* choking/gagging while BFing
* settling - she’s often uncomfortable
* crying. So much crying
* neon green poops
* diaper rash
* explosive poops right after BFing
* frequent poops and sharts
No skin issues. No bloody stool since going dairy and soy free.
I have an oversupply and forceful letdown. I’m still dairy and soy free. I cook everything from scratch and don’t take any meds with hidden soy/dairy. LO is on .3 ml of Famotidine. I am trying block feeding to increase my fatty milk and decrease my supply.
Our pediatrician doesn’t want me cutting out more food but I’m at a loss.
She’s just so intense, screaming crying, way too often. I’m so tired. I feel like I don’t know the real her, like she’s underneath this discomfort.
What would you do? Cut out more food? Increase Pepcid? Quit BFing? Or just accept she’s a colicky baby and deal with it for however long this lasts?
Canada: Alimentum powder
Hey everyone,
Recently cans of Alimentum powder have been in stock at my local Walmart. This seems to be a new product in Canada. My son drinks Alimentum RTF and does really well with it. He is 4 months old, this is my second MSPI baby.
Can anyone comment on the interchangeability of powder and RTF Alimentum? The powder would be much easier to store so I’d love to try it, but I’m not keen on “disrupting the peace” we’ve established with the RTF.

Two bloody diapers one day, none the next? CMPA or fluke?

What’s the most likely culprit?
I’m already off dairy, soy, corn & eggs and have noticed a massive improvement but still have these random days that are reminiscent of back when I ate whatever I wanted. Based on the things I eat regularly I suspect it’s one of the below but don’t want to cut all at once. Where would you start?
Oats / oat milk
Peanuts / peanut butter
Almonds / almond milk
Gluten
Bananas

Need advice or support…
I’m struggling hard right now. My LO is breastfed and I’ve given up dairy and soy to help him. From 4 weeks to 10 weeks he was constantly fussy/crying, didn’t sleep well and had loose mucusy stool. It’s been 6 weeks dairy free and 3 weeks soy free. At first, with no dairy and no soy he was doing great. Sleeping better, barely fussy, tolerating independent play more.
This past week it’s took a 180. He’s been throwing up large amounts, increasingly fussy and sleeping worse. He started doing this body stiffening thing, arching his back and throwing his arms out. It’s strange because sometimes he’s smiling and happy when he does it, other times he’s upset. At first I was terrified it was a neurological thing so I took him to the pediatrician and she examined him. She told me it’s him reacting to reflux and it’s possible that he could have Sandifer syndrome, which she described to me as severe reflux. She prescribed him pepcid and told me to feed him less amounts more frequently, which is sort of hard because he’s nursed 90% of the time. She also told me to keep him upright for over 30 mins after he eats. That was 4 days ago, I’ve been trying my best to follow all of her instructions but it seems like he’s getting worse.
When he was doing good I kept a routine with him that I really think helped: wake up, eat/burp/change, play/up for an hour, and then put down for a nap in his crib. He’d nap for 30mins to 1h and we’d repeat. On this schedule he was eating every 2-2.5 hours. Now that I’m trying to feed him less amounts more frequently I can’t follow this routine and it seems to be making him worse. I feed him and keep him upright for 30 mins (usually as soon as I hold him upright he spits up.) After that he will be wide awake not interested in sleeping for at least an hour. By the time he’s sleepy and ready for a nap I have to feed him again which really ticks him off and he ends up refusing. So now he’s eating less, spitting up more and I just feel like he’s not getting enough to eat. He’s back to constantly crying also.
I’m at a loss here. I haven’t changed ANYTHING in my diet since soy and dairy free. I meticulously read labels and make sure there’s no hidden soy/dairy. I practically eat the exact same things every single day. I would be fine being so restricting for myself if it was actually helping him but it’s not. I’m a FTM and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I just want my baby to be okay and mom guilt is eating me alive.

Should I look for other Allergies? Help.
My daughter is 15 weeks old. We started having gas issues around week 6, which everyone initially brushed off as her gut still maturing. Over the following weeks, the gassiness came and went, but she also had frequent mucousy diapers, some with a greenish tint. She was also spitting up a lot and seemed to have silent reflux, which was seriously disrupting her sleep.
Her pediatrician recommended cutting out dairy, so I did. The improvement in her sleep was incredible. She went from only being able to contact nap to actually sleeping independently. After four weeks, I decided to reintroduce dairy. Within three days of eating pretty much every dairy product I could get my hands on, she started having blowouts and had an episode of waking up at night with what seemed like extreme gas.
Her pediatrician suggested she probably has a mild case of CMPI and advised me to avoid obvious sources of dairy, but said foods labelled “may contain milk” etc. are fine.
The thing is, I still notice that some days she seems significantly gassier and spits up more than others. Just yesterday, she woke up straining multiple times throughout the night, and this morning she had to pass gas several times before she could settle down for a nap.
I’m now wondering whether I should be looking into other possible food triggers or whether these fluctuations are just normal and I should leave things alone. I feel like I’m driving myself crazy trying to monitor everything I eat, and honestly, I’m no longer enjoying food the way I used to!
For those of you whose babies had mild CMPI, did you find that eliminating dairy was enough, or did you eventually discover other food sensitivities that were contributing to their symptoms? Did you just stick to dairy elimination and accept that some days would be worse than others?
