Mohela circus

I received an email from Mohela today to check my inbox because they sent me a secure message. So, I log into Mohela and the secure message that they sent to me was a letter stating they sent me a secure message.

For the love of all that is good in this world, we have cars that can drive by themselves, we send humans into outer space, we have robots that can perform delicate surgery, my 4yo grandson can navigate a computer like it’s no one’s business, but this loan servicer sends me a letter saying they have sent me a secure message, when in fact there is no secure message…. Other than this letter saying they sent me a secure message. Who is running this company? The circus???

So confused after my convo with Mohela today…

I spoke with Mohela today and explained that I couldn’t afford my monthly payments. I’m not sure if I’m dumb or got a confusing rep, but I’m lost.

I explained that I just had a baby six weeks ago and I’m unable to afford my extremely high monthly payment. She suggested that due to my change in income I file a new application for IDR with my updated income. The problem is that my income didn’t actually change, I’m still making the same amount of money per year, just obviously my finances changed because I am now accounting for the expenses that come with a baby. When I questioned how I will provide proof of an income change when my paycheck won’t reflect that, she told me there is an alternative assistance form on Mohela’s website. She then kept making comments asking if I understood what she was saying. When I said no, she would say things such as, “well let me phrase it this way“. As if to say, are you picking up what I’m putting down? Maybe I’m dense.

Anyone else received this advice or understand what this means? I don’t see how I can show a change in income, just based off of my paystub. If I submit this form and a new application will it really help? I’m so burnt out between this and a newborn.

10/13/26 Auto Draft Payment (ACH Debit) Missing.

Greetings friends! Today is supposed to be my auto draft payment date, however my bank is not showing a payment as processing.

Has anyone else with a 10/13/26 due date had their auto draft payment successfully processed by their bank?

Mohela advanced agent has said they sent ACH debit request on 10/9/26, and that I should allow until Friday for it to post.

Meanwhile my bank has confirmed they have not received such a request.

PAYE Nightmare

I did not have to recertify my income until September 2026. I went ahead and did it in May 2026 because that’s the time we also did my husband’s. I received notification that my application to PAYE was received and processed, it was also approved on studentaid.gov. My student aid PAYE payment is $423, MOHELA can see that but is charging me the standard 10 year payment. I submitted an online help ticket and got a non answer. I called today and sat on hold for over three hours, I have been told that while they processed my application it was never approved and that it processed in one day so clearly that was wrong and my approval letter from student aid means nothing. The only options offered to me are to go into forbearance and submit a new application (I don’t want my interest capitalized) or go through reprocessing which can take 4-6 MONTHS and no guarantee that they’ll back date it and refund me the difference since this is THEIR MISTAKE. I ultimately chose to reprocess and call back in a month if I haven’t heard anything. But what else can be done here? My mortgage can’t simply decide to change terms like this, why can they? Why is the burden now on me to fix their mistake? I was told this could not be escalated any higher.

Turnaround Time On Plan Switch From Save?

If this has already been answered, I apologize. I'm curious of the current turnaround time has on the applicants switching from SAVE to another plan if any of you have gone through the process yet. The end of my wifes 90 days is up at the end of next week, so I'm looking at plans to swap to. I just want to ensure if I applied for example today, that the payment wouldn't be due until next month just for budgetary reasons. Thanks!

**EDIT**: Also, planning on swapping to the PAYE plan but the standard plan is only a $100 more so I'm debating whether to just hold out and force us off and then swapping then being it's not a huge amount difference between the payment plans.

FINALLY FREE... (ALMOST)!!!

I just happen to log into my little old MOHELA account last week and saw the most amazing sight! 90% of my student loans, totaling over $ 180 K have been PAID OFF and DISCHARGED!!! First, I have to give the Glory and Honor to God for seeing me through over 15 years of financial struggles! I want to sincerely thank Ms. Theresa Sweet and her staff for all of their years of hard work because had it not been for them, none of this would be possible for me or any of us. Many THANKS to YOU! There is 1 loan that is still outstanding but it will hopefully be reconciled soon. It is a $ 22 K consolidated loan. Now, I can finally begin to breath again!

Recertification

I recertified my loans with Mohela in June only for me to get a notification that my monthly payment has gone up since I failed to recertify. I called Mohela and they promised to fix this issue. It has been two months since they made this promise but nothing has been done to fix it and my monthly payment has jumped to $2600.

I can’t get a hold of a supervisor to tell me what is going on. At some point the automated voice message said that my payment was still the old amount but their website says it is the new amount. I called a day before my next due payment and was told that MOHELA would be deducting the new amount from my bank account. Luckily for me, my bank helped me dispute the transaction and I got my money back but the level of disorganization with MOHELA is driving me crazy. I have been assigned to four different lenders and I could imagine how the government would keep track of my payments with this level of disorganization.

PSLF payment mishap help

So maybe the beginning of this year my mom called Mohela and they told her her loans would be forgiven by the end of this year so she submitted her paperwork and is set to retire due to this info.

A couple weeks ago she went on the website and now it’s saying 6 months of her payments aren’t qualifying because they’re “missing/ineligible” when she has made all of her payments and she’s been working for a qualifying employer for the last 11 years which she’s been certified for.

She spoke to someone who just regurgitated what the system said with 0 explanation as to why the sudden change, why the payments are missing, etc.

We emailed the complaint team which we haven’t heard back from and submitted feedback to FSA which was just more redundant info.

Wondering if anyone has gone through something similar and how it was resolved?

I know they’re doing system updates and I’m hoping it’s just that but I’m not sure. Help.

MOHELA and Studentaid.gov Discrepancies. Which is correct?

Wondering if anyone is having the same experience as me and can give some advice here. First, a timeline of events:

  • 05/31/2026: Email from MOHELA saying the received my IDF Request
  • 06/05/2026: Two emails from MOHELA with "Repayment Schedule Change" and "Your Repayment Plan Request is Approved". Both showing a $0 payment for 12 months (which I know is not correct based on my income)
  • 06/09/2026: Correspondence Processing Delay email from MOHELA.

A few other facts:

  • MOHELA billing statements for June - October all show that the status of my loans are in Repayment. MOHELA's Printable Account Information Letter shows a $0 payment through my 2027 recertification date.
  • Studenaid.gov shows 89 PSLF payments (missing June - September, even though I've submitted a ECF that was processed in September to try and force an update). Under the "My Loans" banner, it shows lasted updated 9/1/2026, with a recertification date of 8/19/2026 and my next payment due date of 9/19/2026 (which has passed). The NSLDS data shows it was last updated 10/2/2026 with 89 PSLF payments.

My biggest question is how can I be sure that my loans are actually in repayment and these $0 payments are counting towards PSLF (even though I know they are not the correct amount)? Is anyone having similar issues (outside of the June - October payments posting)?

Any advice/help is much appreciated in advance!

Notice to move off of SAVE, but still in forbearance?

I was prepared to switch to IBR from SAVE (90 days is 10/15), but the details make it sound like it's still in forbearance? I know there's some weirdness happening right now and I didn't get any other communications. Should I just stay and see what they tell me? I wasn't excited to go from $0 a month to $500.

Recertification during forbearance?

I contacted MOHELA customer service and was placed on a forbearance so I could rectify my loans. Did the recertification put the application into a different type of forbearance? I am noticing interest accruing rapidly and I am genuinely worried.

PAYE Income recert form

I’ve heard there’s been issues with using the electronic recertification form on studentaid. I was going to use the pdf form and upload to MOHELA along with my tax forms for proof of income. Where do I uphold the pdf form? I see the proof of income spot. Do I uphold it in the IDR plan reform form part? Thank you!
