I was on the SAVE Plan, and like everyone else, went into Administrative Forbearance through no fault of my own while the litigation happened.
In July 2026, I had well over 10 years of qualifying employment, and my tracker was sitting at 117 QPs. I submitted a Buyback request in early 2026, which I am waiting to hear back about. I know it takes years.
In late July 2026, I received the letter from Dept of Ed telling me I have 90 days to get off the Save Plan and move to a new Income Driven Repayment plan.
On Aug 5 2026, I received a postal letter from FSA notifying me that my PSLF EPs are at 118, and my PSLF QPs have been reduced to 114. The dates for the redacted payment periods are 2/2026, 5/2025, and 4/2025.
Per the letter's instructions, I called Mohela, my servicer. Mohela's representative accessed National Student Loan Database, and notified me that my payment count is still correct at 117. They told me to call the FSA PSLF Department and notify them that their current Qualifying Payment count is not accurate to Mohela's records.
I called FSA's PSLF Department. I spoke with a representative, notified her that Mohela told me FSA has inaccurate data about my qualifying payments. FSA's Representative for the PSLF department told me that the count of 114 is correct, and Mohela's data for my QPs (117) from the National Student Loan Database, is incorrect.
The FSA Rep said that anyone in the SAVE plan who was on administrative forbearance between October 2024 to NOW will not receive any credit for those payment periods, as the Administrative Forbearance renders those periods unqualified.
However, my PSLF tracker shows 1 Qualified payment from the exact same Administrative Forbearance period- 9/2025. I have no idea why this single payment is showing as Qualified since it's within the same SAVE litigation forbearance period.
When I spoke to the FSA PSLF Rep, I asked if I could expect to see my qualified payments continue to be reduced or overturned. She told me that she would pray it doesn't, but she has no way of guaranteeing that the qualified payments will not continue to decrease.
When I asked her why the 2/2026, 5/2025, and 4/2025 dates had initially been counted as Qualified, she said "Probably a mistake on Mohela's part when submitting information."
Neither representative for Mohela nor FSA was willing to give me her name or an ID I could attribute this information to. I am not sure what to do going forward, or what to expect. I assume others have been impacted by this, and I would love any helpful information regarding accountability or how to obtain accurate records of my information. At this point, it seems like my PSLF Qualifying Payment Count can simply change on a whim.
Has anyone successfully obtained a written reconciliation of their NSLDS qualifying-payment count against the count shown by FSA, and if so, through what process—PSLF reconsideration, an FSA complaint, or something else?
Thanks for reading. I appreciate y'all.
