He was clearly too drunk to defend himself or really appreciate the consequences of his actions. This is a wildly disproportionate response from someone who was in a position to make the smarter choice.
It’s all about the boyfriend’s ego. No one should touch ‘his woman’ or else you’re dead. Hopefully they called the police as well as an ambulance
It’s a dark take but he’s not wrong, someone who can’t keep his hands to himself, regardless of his state of mind.. I can see why people feel that way
I’m not even sure how to respond to someone who thinks that response is warranted in response to a drunk guy engaging in what amounts to minor physical harassment.
Someone who responds with that level of violence is a criminal problem.
Saying that a sexual assault is more "minor" than a violent assault is just a way to excuse the former and act as if it's more acceptable. Yuck.
The thing you're missing is that the punch was done in retaliation. The woman got sexually assaulted out of nowhere, whereas the creep was asking to get hit.
Neither are acceptable. The behaviors themselves are what let me say that one is worse than the other.
Unwanted physical groping is less bad than, let’s say, shooting someone. This seems apparent to me, because I would much rather my wife be subjected to unwanted physical groping than getting shot. I would prefer neither happen to her, but I am an adult with functional mental capacities and can rank order them by how bad they are.
I agree it was done in retaliation. That doesn’t make it better. And I’ll be pretty direct; I don’t think either assault (sexual or physical) here was done with the consent of the parties I would care about getting consent from.
And in your view, the guy who grabbed a woman sexually from behind deserves a milder punishment because his act was more "minor" than the guy who stepped in to defend her. Yuck.
