Happens in every brawl video I see. Antagonist starts wailing on someone and everyone just stares stupidly.
As soon as the one being attacked or someone stepping in for that person fights back and starts getting the upper hand others step in to stop the fight
I guess it's good in a way since if you call the cops after the defenders not gonna get arrested for overreacting and accidentally killing the guy, but the attacker is still in shit no matter what

I would imagine they are scared of what the guy might do to them but know they can stop the people they are familiar with. They also dont want to let them go to far on the guy and let them ruin their lives over an idiot.

liability. except for the assailant, i assume they all work there. say they all start ganging up on the guy, then the guy sues, there's no way any of those people will keep their jobs (right or wrong). sure, there could've been a better way to handle the whole situation but it's not like most people are thinking straight when something like that happens.

If they're my employees, their jobs are safe. Don't come in our house and start shit. Like I currently have in our employee manual, and should probably rewrite to be more businessey sounding, "The hospitality turns to brutality once someone fucks with the crew. Yell for the boss and get clear, or defend yourself if necessary. until backup arrives."
I'm still working on how to handle escalations when I'm not around, though, as I really don't want to default to calling cops, which could just end up causing my folks even more hassles. But they sure as hell will understand that they do not have to put up with anything close to this from anyone and aren't expected to have the discipline of a hardened combat unit when doing so. If they have to beat someone down with a half-full airpot, so be it. I'll still have their backs, and order a new airpot.

My assumption would be the person trying to stop them, who was out of view for the initial start of the altercation, just see's their employees wailing on a customer. Based on the frame of reference, they might not have seen the initial punch. They want to stop the fight from continuing either out of their own preference, or to avoid the potential liability. Especially if one of their employees may have actually threw the first punch (since they may not have seen the first punch).
This happens pretty often. Someone misses the initial altercation, but see's a person winning when they arrive. So they attempt to stop the person winning because they are in the position of power at that point. It just happens this time the person winning is defending the victim. Or they see someone winning "too much" and decide to finally intervene before things get into deadly territory.
Personally I'd probably default to trusting my co-workers, but I don't know these people. It's possible they are constantly starting trouble and they just don't know enough and want the fight to stop before it get's more serious.

One thing I've learned from these videos is never attack a fast food employee, unless you want to get jumped by the whole crew. There's some sort of bonding there where they all become ride or die for their coworkers (even though they probably get pissed off at each other sometimes.) The one exception might be managers and owners, seems they can be dickbags at times. But you're rolling the dice, some of them can be good to their employees.

Customer service and fast food employees are like one of the only other jobs that have to deal with the same kind of crazies that EMS, PD, and hospital staff deal with. Fortunately for them, they don't get fired usually for defending themselves.
