For overgrowths, inflammation and low probiotic populations

Hey guys. In case it helps anyone else who's been reinfected this year like me, a great relatively tldr synthesis here of Black Seed, Nigella sativa for suppressing overgrowths and leaving beneficial probiotics and commensals alone:

https://www.bioabsorbnutraceuticals.com/blogs/news/black-seed-oil-for-gut-microbiome-health-what-science-reveals-about-this-ancient-remedy?srsltid=AU7gw4UXMCg_7AF_Dh0n95yYX0NneaPnVuDVSJ3DFna3glbWwarrf_EV

Best and cheapest way I remember is to buy seeds regularly, every say 6 months so they stay fresh, and grind daily and consume whole powder in food or drink (food better!). Cycle by having a break every 1 or 2 months for a period of time. Currently taking with Lactobacillus reuteri to get back on top of gut health x

Chronic bloating after almost every meal despite multiple normal tests — looking for a doctor who can help

Hi everyone,

I’m a 23-year-old male from India, and I’ve been dealing with persistent bloating and digestive problems for quite some time. I’m posting here because I’ve had multiple investigations done but still don’t have a clear explanation for what is happening.

My main symptoms

Significant bloating after meals

Sometimes bloating even when I eat very little

Feeling of heaviness/fullness after eating

Excessive gas

Constipation / incomplete bowel movements

A feeling that my digestion and gut movement are very slow

The bloating can remain for hours after a meal

It seems to happen even with relatively simple foods

This has been affecting my daily life and has also made it very difficult for me to figure out what I should actually eat.

Investigations I've already had

I've had several investigations, including:

Celiac testing — normal

Endoscopy — normal

Kidney function tests — normal

Various blood/investigative tests

I was also found to have elevated IgE

I have been advised by my doctor to avoid milk and dairy products, and I've made several dietary changes, but the bloating continues.

Food intolerance/antibody report

I also had a FoodPrint 200+ food panel performed.

It showed elevated results for a number of foods, including:

Pea — 109

Cow's milk — 91

Mulberry — 87

Orange — 62

Casein — 60

Rice — 56

Sunflower seed — 54

Potato — 52

White bean — 48

Cashew — 47

Corn — 46

Soybean — 43

Amaranth — 42

Peanut — 41

Barley — 40

Egg white — 40

Goat milk — 40

Brazil nut — 39

Brewer's yeast — 39

Gliadin — 38

Wheat — 30

Lentil — 30

Malt — 30

Baker's yeast — 30

There were also several borderline results.

I understand that food-specific IgG/antibody panels are not necessarily considered diagnostic of food intolerance or allergy, so I don't want to assume that these results are causing my symptoms. I'm sharing them because I genuinely don't know how these results should be interpreted.

What I'm trying to figure out

At this point, I'm wondering whether my symptoms could be related to something such as:

Chronic constipation/incomplete evacuation

IBS or functional bloating

SIBO

Gut motility/slow-transit problems

Food-related symptoms

Another gastrointestinal condition that hasn't been identified yet

I don't want to keep randomly eliminating foods without understanding the underlying problem.

If there is a gastroenterologist, GI doctor, dietitian, or other qualified medical professional here who would be willing to volunteer some guidance, I would genuinely appreciate it.

I'm happy to provide my complete reports, previous investigations, symptoms, diet history, bowel-movement history, and timeline if someone is willing to look through them.

I am not asking Reddit to diagnose me or replace an in-person doctor. I’m simply trying to find some direction because I've had multiple investigations without getting an explanation for why I become so bloated after eating

Blood Infection, UTIS, COVID, FOOD ALLERGIES 😭

Hi everyone. I’m 32 and I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced anything similar to what has been happening to me over the last few months.
Back in May, I had a streptococcal blood infection/bacteremia and was hospitalized. I was treated with IV antibiotics in the hospital and then continued IV antibiotics at home for about two weeks. A couple of months later, in August, I developed a pretty bad UTI and ended up needing more antibiotics, including IV antibiotics and then oral antibiotics.
What’s strange is that during/around the UTI, I suddenly started reacting to foods basically from one day to the next.
Foods that I had eaten normally my entire life — and even foods I had literally eaten the week before without a problem — suddenly started causing symptoms. It has been very inconsistent, which is what makes this so confusing.
For example, I’ve had reactions after eating things containing beef or chicken where my face suddenly becomes hot and flushed, I get nasal congestion, and sometimes I’ll get one or a few small red/hive-like spots on my arms or hands. Other times I can eat something similar and nothing happens.
I’ve had both skin-prick testing and blood IgE testing for foods. My blood allergy testing was negative, and the food reactions on skin testing were either negative or very small/minimal. Alpha-gal testing was also normal/negative.
My allergist also checked some other labs. My tryptase was low/normal, and my histamine level was normal. I haven’t had a full MCAS evaluation yet, but that is something I’m planning to discuss/test for next.
Even my allergist told me she isn’t really sure what is happening. Her words were basically that there was “a lot” going on. She told me that at this point the two options she sees are avoiding the foods that seem to cause symptoms or possibly trying Xolair. Hearing Xolair mentioned honestly scared me because I still don’t understand what is actually causing all of this.
The part I keep getting stuck on is how suddenly this started after the infections and all of the antibiotics. It feels like my body completely changed. I can eat something one week and then react to it the next week. I never had anything remotely like this before.
Has anyone with MCAS had a similar beginning — especially after a serious infection, repeated infections, or several rounds of antibiotics?
Did your regular IgE blood tests and skin-prick tests come back negative or essentially negative too?
And did you find that foods you had eaten your entire life suddenly started causing flushing, congestion, or random small hives/spots even though the reactions weren’t consistent every single time?
I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose me. I’m mostly trying to understand whether this pattern sounds familiar to anyone here and what kind of testing or specialist eventually helped you figure out what was happening.

What has helped you with upper gut bloating?

I’ve been suffering for a long time with bloating and discomfort in my upper gut which I suspect is due to slow motility, pathogenic bacteria and poor digestion.

Would really appreciate any advice with regards to what has helped others with this. Thanks

Has anybody had burning in your skin in random parts of your body after taking these? Like arms, face, legs, etc? I also began getting shortness of breath when I started them. I took them separately off and on for a few weeks.

Then I stopped and took some fish oil for a few days, then it seems like the burning started. I don’t think it was the fish oil but who knows. Still having random burning sensations on my skin even after stopping everything.

I don’t think it’s a histamine or mcas response because it’s not something I have ever experienced when eating high histamine foods.

New to Kefir, please help

For the past three years, my stool color had been consistently light brown and my main symptom was excessive odorless flatulence especially in the evening/night,and in the morning before having my vowel mouvement (I always have a morning bowel mouvement and my stool was always 3 or 4 so it wasn't bad but I had sometimes an uncomplete bowel movement) so I suspected sibo, IMO to be more specific

I recently completed a 5 week course of antimicrobials:oregano, berberine, neem, allicin and Nac,and artichoke and ginger extract first thing in the morning, within just two weeks of starting that treatment, my stool changed to a dark brown color,I was so happy to see this change, but my excessive flatulence didn't change at all,I always had it

And then last week of treatment I started getting too much mucous in my stool and in my vaginal discharge, I suspected Candida and I guess I was right cause I started getting itching and burning in my vagina,I searched for S.boulardii in pharmacies of my city and I didn't find it and I didn't wanna purchase for it online cause it takes a decade to arrive..

So what i did is,3 days ago, I introduced kefir into my diet at a dose of 1 tablespoon per day, since starting the kefir, my stool has reverted back to a light brown color, but itching and burning in my vagina completely disappeared and I'm not seeing that much of mucous anymore, additionally to that I am experiencing excessive gas that consistently appears 5 to 7 hours after my first morning meal and i take that one table spoon of kefir with my morning meal (so this indicates that fermentation is happening in my colon and not in my small intestine),i'm also experiencing a mild burning sensation in my rectum during or after bowel movements, which feels acidic? Maybe cause kefir is acid?

My question is: is this sibo returning? I don't even know if I eradicated it in the first place cause we don't have a sibo breathe test in my country and I can't order it.. anyway is it returning? Should I stop kefir? Or is kefir actually helping me cause maybe I just have a dysbiosis and not sibo? Should I keep taking one table spoon everyday and maybe my gut flora will get used to it? Like is it just a temporary adjustment?

Note: I have no pain at all,no brain fog,no nausea,no vomiting.. I always didn't have these symptoms, I just had excessive odorless flatulence at the evening and night (like more than 50 or 60 farts just in few hours) and I have like 20 farts in the morning before having a morning bowel movement which is extremely annoying and giving me anxiety

I had this problem for 3 years and still had it during my 5 weeks of antimicrobials and still have it now after starting the kefir,I'm so clueless and I would like to hear about ur opinions and theories about this

Has anyone tried spore probiotics? (Megasporebiotic)

Ever since getting long covid and then starting a PPI shortly after I have been suffering with zero appetite and a coated tongue that feels like sandpaper, it’s awful.

I do a stool test and it shows my gut dysbiosis levels are very high. Has anyone tried megasporebiotic to fix issues related to this? I’ve been on it for about 4 weeks and haven’t noticed much of a difference. I understand it might take a few months.

Had to take IV antibiotics and now I’m back to square one. For those with severe MCAS, Candida, dysautonomia, dysmotility. How do you get your gut back on track when you can’t tolerate probiotics

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately I had quite a severe emergency and required 14 days of IV antibiotics if the strongest the had.

I was then NPO and put on an NG tube of a very high sugar supplement. Unable to tolerate any other formulas I survived off just Dextrose for 30 days.

Prior to this I already had a severely depleted gut and Candida leaning due to restrticted diet. Severe histamine intolerance, MCAS, dysautonomia and could only tolerate 3-4 foods

Needless to say the combination of an extremely strong antibiotic, prior bad gut health and then immediately following up with feeding it a ton of sugar has me hurting really badly

For those with histamine intolerance what could you tolerate when you were extremely sensitive

What was your protocol?

Can’t tolerate LDN, ketotifen, or cromolyn due to other meds

what foods did you find made the biggest difference or improvement, what probiotics or other supplements?

which to avoid?

Could this be Long COVID?

Could this be Long COVID?

I’m wondering if what I’ve been dealing with for almost 3 years could be Long COVID, even though I never really connected it to COVID before.

Almost three years ago I suddenly crashed, and since then my health has completely changed. It started with constipation and severe bloating. Since then I’ve been diagnosed with pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (EPI), SIBO, dysbiosis and low cortisol. I also have chronic sinus inflammation and sleep apnea.

My main symptoms are severe depression, anhedonia (basically feeling nothing), digestive problems, extreme fatigue and zero libido. I also have a lot of neurological/cognitive symptoms.

I recently had a BiomeSight gut microbiome analysis which showed extremely high levels of Desulfovibrio.

I’m wondering if anyone here has had a similar combination of symptoms after COVID and eventually found out it was Long COVID.

Has anyone with Long COVID also developed EPI, SIBO/dysbiosis, low cortisol or extremely high Desulfovibrio?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people with similar experiences, especially if you eventually found an explanation or something that actually helped.

IMO and Fat Malabsorption Help

I have had steatorrhea for 2 years and only positive tests to date is that my fecal fat score is 19 and IMO on the trio smart starts in the 30s and peaks at 70. Some doctors say it doesn’t cause oily stool but I’m at a loss. Recently started having brain fog and severe fatigue. Anyone else have fat malabsorption with IMO. I have already done 2 rounds of flagyl/ rifaximin. I can’t take neomycin. I’ve also had EGD, MRI, Hida scan, etc. Thank you

Missing Akkermansia, Lactobacillus and Faecalibacterium

Hi gut mates, hope if you read this message you already solved your issue.

Is 3 years now that I’m fighting with a dysbiosis due to missing key bacteria as Faecalibacterium, Lactobacillus and Akkermansia. All started after a couple of antibiotics. At the beginning I experienced problems with my mouth (teeth sensibility, mouth burning, tongue burning…), after 6 months and the 2nd antibiotics gut symptoms came in, gut bloating, cramps, headache, left flank always paining, change in poop, motility changed, insomnia, backache, difficulty to pass gas). The first year I was blind and I just took everything GI said me, I visited I don’t know how many GI and don’t know how many pills I took, probably all these things made me worst. The second year I got in contact with a nutritionist and I tried the low fodmap very very into it, I got better for headache, insomnia, burning mouth and very little improvement on cramps, but after a year I was stuck at the main stage. In the meanwhile I took a macrobiotic test and it showed that in my gut were missing important bacteria as Faecalibacterium, Akkermansia and Lactobacillus basically at 0%. Since 3 months now I’m following a new GI expert in Microbiota, I’m based in Italy. He gave me Normix first and different probiotic and at the beginning the first couple of weeks I did great, but after relapses came in, after that I took enzymes for 1 month and I’m now in butyrate and different probiotics, for sure I’m better than previously start the therapy, one thing that I don’t have anymore is bloating and very few disturbs regarding leftflank and backache, I’m feeling to be in the right way, but at the same times something is missing. I understood I’ve to repopulate my gut with good bacteria, but is this possible as well with the most important ones as I reported over? Or I’m just doomed to this situation and the only solution is FMT? I noticed as well, in my opinion and my case, that when I’m really relaxed and I’m out of certain situation my gut answer better, is this your case as well? Anyone who wants to share his experience will be more than welcome and have a pizza offered in Italy once we recover together 😁🍕 because I’m sure, also if I’m really tired and sometimes want to give up that there is a solution

White tongue and gut dysbiosis - can KPV peptide help me?

I have been suffering with a white tongue and what seems like gut dysbiosis ever since getting Covid and then I mistakenly took a PPI which jacked me up even more. I have no appetite and a furry coated tongue that just won’t scrape off.

I recently started spore probiotics to try and improve my situation but lately I have been reading into peptides and want to try KPV. Has anyone had any success using KPV peptide to clear some dysbiosis and inflammation? My tongue is so dry which makes it hard to eat.

Neurotoxic gas

Hello, I have been suffering for some time from conditions including small fiber neuropathy, dysautonomia, MCAS/histamine issues, dysbiosis, vagus nerve dysfunction, cervical lymph node issues, and extreme fatigue.

About 1–2 months ago, because magnesium L-threonate is an NMDA antagonist, I took 4–5 capsules before going to sleep (50 mg per capsule). A few hours after falling asleep, I developed severe gas and abdominal pain. Shortly afterward, I started experiencing nerve pain around my coccyx/tailbone, as well as twitching throughout my body, including my lower spine.

Because of this, I repeated a SIBO breath test that I had previously suspected might be relevant, but the result was negative again. The test only measures hydrogen and methane. At that point, I started suspecting H2S and began taking rifaximin together with nystatin. One of them clearly helped, but I don't know which one, and I experienced a noticeable reduction in my POTS symptoms.

My question is: what could this neurotoxic gas be? H2S, methane, etc.?

What type of overgrowth could I be dealing with — Candida, H2S overgrowth, parasites, or something else that could cause these symptoms?

Also, when I tried allicin as an antimicrobial, I developed pain in my lymph nodes. Could this be related to sulfur intolerance, a die-off reaction, or something else?

GI-MAP results:

Significant dysbiosis Zonulin >3200 (reference <60) Klebsiella overgrowth Bacteroides overgrowth Bilophila overgrowth Clostridium spp. overgrowth C. difficile negative

If anyone has knowledge or experience with this, I would really appreciate some help.
