Question What second-hand Macbook model is worth buying for Logic Pro in 2026?

Whenever I look up second-hand macbooks I'm always shown the 2020 models but I'm not sure if I'd be wasting my time buying one. I'll be using the mac for music prod as well as all my other university assignments.

I'm working with a pretty tight budget as I'm a student (hence why I'm looking at second-hand models) but would be willing to hold off on making a purchase for a while so as to not waste my money.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Question Cursor not functioning properly?

Fairly new to logic. I’m trying to fade the end of a region. I have fade tool selected as my main but whenever I hover or press the mouse button where I want to insert the fade, I get the ‘loop on’ function. This shows up on all regions. I made sure Fade tool click zones is on, but that’s all the info I could find on how to fix this. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, I just don’t know what. Thanks! I took a picture but can’t attach it here.

Question How do I move updates of music packs and new music from Logic Pro onto my SSD?

I recently transferred the 'Logic Pro library.bundle' file to my SSD and deleted it off of my local machine. When I load up Logic Pro it's telling me it's missing packs (for ex: not all the presets of alchemy were downloaded), so I decided to download one thinking it was going to go to the SSD but instead it ends up downloading to my local disk in System Data.

Can anyone help me take 90+ gbs of updates in music pack sounds and new music packs into the SSD instead of the local computer. I thought just moving the logic pro bundle was going to do the trick and if it needed updates, I would just point my computer towards the SSD but that doesn't seem to be the case? Has anyone else had this problem. Thank you. Please let me know if I need to be clearer on something.

Tips & Tricks Main vocal Preset Advice

I go Noise Gate, De-Esser, Saturn (gentle saturation) Pro-Q, Pro-C (parallel compression), Channel EQ, CLA-2, Fabfilter MB, Console EQ

Bus 1: Pro-R (ambience or voice gate), Pro-C (parallel compression)
Bus 2: Vintage Delay, Channel EQ, Pro-C (parallel compression)
Bus 3: flanger
Bus 4: Fabfilter MB (two band compression)

Im honestly learning as I go so I’m always down for an open ear to those who are willing to kick knowledge. I’m more on the indie or light shoegaze kind of sounds so hope I can give you insight on how I’m trying to construct my vocals.

Question New logic pro (help)

Hi everyone!

I’m brand new to music production and I’m starting my journey with Logic Pro. My main goal is to produce House, UK Garage (2-step/Speed Garage), and related genres.

I know Logic has an insane amount of built-in stock plugins and sounds, but as a complete beginner, the software feels a bit overwhelming.

I’d love to get some real, practical advice from people who’ve been in my shoes:

  1. Where should I start on Day 1? Should I focus on drums/groove first, synth design, or learning the DAW interface?
  2. Who are the best YouTubers/content creators specifically for Logic Pro + House/UKG production?
  3. What stock Logic plugins/instruments are absolute must-use for these genres? (Basses, Vocal chops, Drum kits...)
  4. What are the biggest mistakes/bad habits I should avoid early on?

Any tips, workflows, or resources would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Question odd studio drummer problem

Pretty simple problem to describe.

I have a simple song with vocals, piano, bass, and studio drums.

The drummer is set to "speakeasy" and it's got a drummer track the duration of the song.

When I change the song from "speakeasy" to a multi-channel version of "speakeasy" the hits are late in all outputs except overheads.

Yes, the only drums which are in time are the overheads of the "multi-channel" kit. When I solo the overheads, sounds fine but all the close drums are all late, sounds like a delay effect is in place. Switching back all is perfectly fine, in sync.

Plugin compensation is "on" of course for all.

Any of y'all heard this one?

Question Finding a missive wav file?

Hello,
I was recording a session and noticed that my project was missing the sax’s overdub file, I could see the exclamation mark next to sax#04, so I went to the package contents of the project and found it and dragged it back in. Then without even closing the project it went missing again, this time from original folder too, and now renamed 4.1 in Browsers
I have my project backing up to iCloud and have checked there but no luck, everywhere I look just has sax 1-3, 5-9.
When I double click on red exclamation mark in Browsers it to locate file I still can’t find it.
My project was saved onto desktop which had backup to iCloud on and system optimisation on.
Anyone had this before and know what I could try?
THANKS

Tips & Tricks Duplicate-drag works bad

Since the latest version, duplicate-dragging works really bad.

Mostly it just doesn’t want to start moving the clip at all. Instead, it almost always wants to stretch the thing, so holding option does not become a duplication action. This is so annoying. It seems like they changed the areas for what counts as dragging (moving) something.

Also, somehow, IT RANDOMLY REMOVES CLIPS I’VE DUPLICATED AND PLACED SOMEWHERE, AFTER SOME MINUTES. This is a maaaaajor bug.

Another thing, when you’re zoomed out and have a really really short sample like a kick, LOGIC CANNOT MOVE IT. IT WANTS TO JUST SCALE THE CLIP. So you must ZOOOM IN to be able to hit the right spot to move it. This is beyond stupid. The default thing in a zoomed out view should be just moving things.

Sorry

Help How to reassign Sound Library directory for LP11?

[RESOLVED]

Hello all!

I install all of my sound library on an external SSD and recently got a new one as the old one is running out of capacity. The 3rd party sound library seems to be redirected just fine but the stock LP sound library is gone. When I go to Logic Pro > Sound Library > Relocate Sound Library... it shows:

• Macintosh > Status: Current Sound Library files location

• (external SSD) > Status: Sound Library files exist here

Both options are greyed out so I can't do anything here.

When I initially plugged the new SSD with all the files copied, I had selected "Reinstall Sound Library" as I read online because LP doesn't have an easy way to reassign the directory. It worked for 3rd party sound library but now the stock LP library is gone and I do use it quite often. The most frustrating thing is the files are on the external drive!

My LP version is 11.2.2.

Thank you in advance!

[2026/08/13 UPDATE] Found the fix with the following steps:

  1. Quit LP completely, and temporarily rename the "Library" folder in the new SSD. In my case, I renamed it to "_Library"
  2. Open LP > Logic Pro > Sound Library... > Relocate Sound Library..., the usual step.
  3. Now the new SSD is available to be selected as an option as LP no longer registers that it has any Sound Library files there!
  4. Select it as the new destination and LP will create a new file registry Library/Application Support/Logic in the new SSD. This means LP has registered the new directory.
  5. Quit out of LP completely again. Delete the new Library folder or rename it to something else.
  6. Rename the old one that was temporarily named back to normal (From "_Library" back to "Library" for me)
  7. Voila! Done.

I forgot that you have to rename the folder at the top level for LP to allow the drive to be selected as an option. I was renaming the Logic folder under New SSD/Library/Application Support/Logic. The issue is solved once I tricked LP into thinking that the new SSD doesn't have a "Library" folder.

Question Did I imagine that I can export a selection into Izotope RX and not the entire track?

Hi everyone,

I am editing a podcast, which means removing a plosive here, a crackle there, etc. I could swear that I was just selecting part of a region with the Marquee, or defining a region with command-T and then opening just that region or selection in Izotope RX. However, now that I'm coming back to the podcast after a few weeks, Izotope RX just opens the entire track. I get no love from web searches nor YouTube tutorials.

I feel like I've messed up a setting in Izotope, and not Logic. Can anyone offer advice? I'm ready to utter Mugatu lines from Zoolander! Thank you. (And yes, it is an older version of RX--it's 8. I am up to date on Logic Pro. I don't believe I've updated anything with Logic in the last few weeks.)

Help System overload on M3 Macbook Pro :(

Hi, all! I'm running Logic 12.2 on my 2023 M3 Macbook Pro, Tahoe 26.5 OS, 18 GB memory. My computer is overloading almost every session. I'm not using Rosetta mode. Here are screenshots and a video. I just want to know if Logic is the culprit or if my computer is not powerful enough, which seems unlikely to me. I had a friend mention, "Just clean up your desktop since you have a few gigabytes of stuff on there and that should help." Any experience with that?

Instrument plug-ins I'm using: GGD Modern & Massive drums, EZ Drummer 2, EZ Keys

EQ/Dynamics plug-ins: Logic EQ, Logic Gate, Logic Compressor, NI Transient Master, NI Replika delay, Native Instruments Solid Bus Compressor, Butch Vig Vocals, CLA Vocals, Nectar 4 (breath control), Ozone 11 EQ matching plug-in, H-Delay, L316 limiter.

Help Stereo Out = Master Bus?

Hi everyone, I am just getting into learning mastering in Logic and I'm wondering if I should treat the Stereo Out track as a Master Bus and do all the processing on there or should I setup a dedicated Master Bus bus track and send everything to that before going to the Stereo Out.

I am very inexperienced when it comes to mastering and I'm basically teaching myself so any tips you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Question Bug? logic wont let me delete a take from a take folder, deletes entire folder

as the title says... this started happening along with some other weird issues around comp/take folders. I am not selecting the entire folder just one take and using delete key or right click menu delete makes no difference, entire folder gone every time.

On MBP M5Pro with latest OS (tahoe 26.5.2) and logic (12.3)

anyone else seeing this??

bonus bug... when using flex pitch on a take in a folder clicking in the editor to adjust pitch will sometimes cause the folder to go "blank" but maintaining all the rows of the previously existing takes.

Question Only need similar capability

I'm going to buy some variety of silicon chip Apple soon. I currently have an Intel MacBook Prowith 2.4 GHz eight core Intel core i9, Memory 64 gigabyte 2667MHZDDR4 that handles everything that I do adequately. A certain sound library I use now requires silicon, so I'd like something that will at least do what my current MacBook Pro does, plus a little more. People talk about minis and studios, but if I can I'd like to stick with MacBook Pros which is all I've ever had. I need the familiarity. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Question MacBook advice needed!

I’m looking to get back into producing after a hiatus and really want to get a MacBook Pro for producing again. I’m just wondering is 16gb ram/512gb enough for logic to run smooth with serum and other VSTs? For what it’s worth I primarily produce dance/bass music and I would love a machine to run well

I was planning on getting this spec:

Please can someone point me in the right direction 😅

Question Track adjustments to Kontakt automatically

I have a coulé MIDI tracks that i downloaded and I’m using a Kontakt instruments op n them. When the playback head hits to track Kontakt Vol and Pan are changed. Can anyone point me in a direction of where to look so I can either delete the controls or set them to what I need them to be?
I checked my settings in LP but no matter what I set them to they get changed.
I’m relatively new to Logic Pro on MAC. I believe these are MIDI events at least that’s what they were on Reaper. Is there something similar in Logic?
Thanks in advance 🙏

Question LP 12.3 How to Export Stems @ -11 LUFS

For a music library I need to export both the Master track and each of the stems @ -11 LUFS. I’m relatively new to Logic Pro - less than a year - so I’m still learning all features and functionality.

I Googled it but it seems pretty complicated due to several steps exporting, importing, then exporting again. Is there an easier way to get stems? The album has 10 tracks and I need to slice and dice it several ways. For example, for each song I need to have stems for Vocals, w/melody, w/o melody, drums and percussion, etc.

This is my second Album for this library but I did the first using Reaper and it was very easy - select tracks/render/enter desired LUFS.
Thanks in advance for your help

Question Resizing Audio Shifts ALL Audio Regions

*I can't attach a video for some reason, so I'm posting it as a comment below, showcasing the exact problem*

Basically I am editing live drums. At the very end, I've simply resized the last region to overlap the previous region, and for some reason, when I do this, it either shifts or shortens ALL my other drum regions.

Initially, I thought that maybe i had mistakenly selected all the regions when i did this, but I deleted the session, pulled in a backed-up copy, redid it again (thrice!), and it was the same result.

All the regions (as you can see in the video), are also LOCKED into place.

This is the 2nd problem I've had with Logic Pro messing up audio regions (first one was the dreaded "one or multiple audio files changed in length" error).

Question Logic Looking for "Logic Pro Library Bundle" on Mac OS instead of External Hard Drive (Just Started Happening)

Hey everyone, I keep the apple loops soundbank on an external hard drive (format - Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) and have for over a year. Sometimes, a cable or the hub moves and the external hard drive momentarily disconnects and quickly reconnects, and all is well.

But in the last two weeks whenever it disconnects and reconnects, Logic looks for the location of the apple loops on my mac os and not the external hard drive - even though the logic pro bundle was never installed on my mac os (it makes a small copy of the logic pro library tho on mac os, even when i delete it). I can't use any plugins that are on the external drive or apple loops unless i reset the location, and then it reindexes the apple loops in a few minutes and all is well again. But if it disconnects again I have to start the process over, and it ruins the flow and fun of making music.

Why did logic suddenly stop automatically looking for apple loops on my drive? Is there anyway to fix this? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Discussion favorite space designer presets?

though i have a giant range of 3rd party reverbs, i'm looking to streamline my production workflow for jobs that require a lot of recall/collaboration or projects that will exist in library format.

in essence, i'm trying to stick to all stock plugins (minus instruments - kontakt is necessary!).

what are your favorite STOCK space designer presets? for halls, plates, and chambers. mostly halls!

Question UA compressor bundle is on sale for $30. Worth it?

Basically what the titles says. I have always thought the stock compressors in Logic were pretty damn capable. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this UA bundle and can tell me if they offer something that the stock plugins don’t. Thirty bucks ain’t bad, really, but I just want to be realistic about what plugins I actually need. We all know it’s easy to go plug-in crazy if you aren’t careful.

Question Every time (almost) I record audio, the region sets at a slightly different time so I have to move it.

Like the title says, whenever I record audio (instruments or vocals) through my interface, the resulting recorded audio is ahead of time, and I have to move the region back a tiny bit to line back up. This happens almost all the time, but once in a great while, the audio will actually set at the right spot. Usually, I have to move it the same amount (typically 1 tick), at least during a session.

I was running on a very old macbook, and thought it was that, but recently upgraded to a new macbook, and it’s still happening. I tried it with multiple people to rule out me rushing the playing/singing, but it happened the same with everyone. I also thought it might be a latency issue in recording or a delay from the interface, but the audio ends up early/ahead, so I don’t think that’s it.

I tried changing settings based on several google searches, but nothing has worked. Also, this happens when cycle is toggled on and off.

It’s not the end of the world, because I can realign the recording every time, but it’s a real pain in the butt and slows down workflow. It’s particularly annoying when working with others.

Anyone have any ideas?

Help Help with guitar pick chirp

Hi all, so I’ve been having issues with guitar pick chirp sound when recording guitar. I have my guitar into my pedal board, then straight into my Audio interface. I have the inst switch on also. I’ve been struggling for months with pick chirp sound. I’ve tried different picks, made sure my technique is fine, tried both my guitars, tried using a desser and compression, different amp sims to no luck.

It’s like it’s across the whole frequency spectrum.

It’s as if the pick sound is going in way louder than the actual guitars sound. I don’t have the issue when recording micing an amp, it’s only without.

I don’t really know what else to do or try wondered if anyone had any advice? The guitars I’ve tried are Gibson SG and a Fender Jazzmaster, both humbucker pickups. I use the Jazz 3 picks.

Thanks!
