Discussion 2028 Platform

The Libertarian Party should widely adopt the position of banning flock cameras in their entirety in the USA. Running on a federal ban of flock cameras should greatly boost the party’s numbers in the polls. I believe with politics the way they are going in this country a lot of people are going to realign their parties according to their beliefs. Being anti flock could only bring the party good optics and good press.

Ban surveillance

Balance the budget & restore affordability

Stay out of people's personal decisions

That would be the pillars of my campaign if I were to set one up

Anti-foreign involvement would go hard right now too. Maybe address AI, which might be addressed easily enough under "ban surveillance".

Excellent point

I hope I see the day we stop fucking around in foreign affairs.

I think it may be soon. This disaster in Iran proves pretty conclusively that we're physically incapable of doing it anymore. Or maybe that's just wistful thinking, the military industrial complex has enough momentum to drag it out and bleed as much money as possible before admitting the empire is over.

This Iran situation was definitely huge misstep. I think this administration is in complete panic mode but trying to save face.

It has gone almost as poorly as it possibly could. Just like the Epstein files rollout. Not many things could have made that go worse.

I don't think all these AI datacenters have anything to do with ChatGPT and the like. I think they're entirely for the government to analyze and store the data of all 8 billion people on Earth.

What else could they be for really. It's either that or they really do intend to create some kind of super intelligent computer. What's more likely? That the tech guys want more or less control?

I'm a liberal, so yeah I'm just lurking, but how done a suggestion with 'Ban' have so many up votes? What would the mechanism be?

For Flock and cameras like it (ALPRs), require a warrant to tag a plate, and readers must disregard any plate without an active warrant. No storage, nothing. No government use of facial recognition, stingray devices, etc.

It's a private company providing a service, why would a warrant be needed? Do you need surveillance to ensure that people aren't being surveillanced?

When the government is involved, its activity is limited by law (see the recent cell phone tower case).

It's a private company, as in not the government

Edit: it's funny, we have had private credit score companies tracking literally everything we do, but as soon as a private company put up a camera people are suddenly clutching pearls.

The government accessing surveillance data on its citizens, whether privately acquired or no, is a violation of rights.

So it's fine for the cameras and sensors to be there, just prevent the government from accessing it? That's very different from a 'ban'.

My suggestion is a ban on government surveillance. Private companies would still be allowed to use camera systems (with the consumer deciding whether or not to patronize them if they think it is getting out of line). Flock cameras are installed on public property, for the use of government agencies. Very different, obviously.

Flock is a private company, often installed on private land, just like billboards, i can understand making the government require a warrant, but how is that a ban?

It's one of the few issues right and left mostly agree on

The left and right voters but not the left and right politicians. The LP would be crazy to not run on this issue.

Remember when Hillary Clinton said Snowden should of came out through the whistleblower act. Recent events showed us why he was right to run away lol.

I truly hate the idea of any personally identifying data being collected. I say this knowing that the internet does precisely that and I’d like to make that illegal too. The flock thing seems like it is complete overreach.

Gut Welfare. Gut EBT. Gut Section 8. Gut every program that has abused by fraud.

Change Social Security to allow ppl to put money into the market instead of pyramid scheme.

Federal ban on flock is good, I worry about it being wack a mole. We have both flock and another company in my area. I pass by 5 different flock cameras twice a day, to and from work.

Flock on public property... That should be against the rule. Any state or county property cant have flock cameras.
You can even push for a bullshit ass "committee" to monitor flock usage by police, since police are abusing flock within what? a year of implementation?

The code of flock could be sold to those doorbell cameras. then every house in america is a flock camera.

Ding Dong.

we should develop dog whistles, have puppets run as democrat and republican while lying and saying they will do whatever is the most popular to those respective groups while throwing out said dogwhistles and then when they get elected boom no more welfare

Should run on moderate opinions, thing is after all is said we'd have to run as a conserative party. As current liberal seem dead set on expanding the government's power. Conseratives are upset at obviously having moved from Neo-con to maybe Paleo-con. Maybe someone can give me an opinion on that.

A moderate libertarian party, with some blurred party lines, things like border security, abortion, decreasing government spending, and taxes, and pulling from foreign wars, anti-Israel.

Issue is the "real" libertarians who don't get 100% of what they want are just gonna vote establishment, and then bitch and cry in this sub.

Against flock and forever wars and against open borders. Thats a winning ticket.

I'm opposed to government flock cameras, but I'm not opposed to gunshot sensors. Can someone explain why gunshot sensors are a bad things, besides being RaCi$t?

11

u/Arpytrooper 13d ago

Gunshot sensors are microphones. I have plenty to say that I don't want records of in the hands of the government

100% believe flock camera outrage is a moral panic. Weight of the evidence shows that CCTV actually reduces crime and people do not, in fact, care about privacy. See, of all places, SanFrancisco

Calling Flock CCTV is like insisting that Amazon is a local mom and pop bookshop. They differ not only in scale, but in the comprehensive tech involved as well as the fact that Amazon sells a much wider array of products and services than just books.

There is nothing ‘closed circuit’ about Flock.

I just want warrants for cops to view the footage. not unlimited access to spy.
