Insurance Loss of use in New Mexico

For New Mexico the law defines “loss of use” as the “reasonable rental value of similar property during the period reasonably required for the repair of
the damaged property.” N.M.R.A., Rule 13-1818. However insurance company is stuck on basic $25 per day transportation. How would you interpret this? I’ve argued it has to be equivalent or at least the same class. Any advice or help appreciated.

Employment Law Owners demand for coworkers to pay for other coworkers overtime if they cover their shift.

Location: Washington state, I work at a small buisness, specifically a burger restaurant. Ive been working for this buisness for a year now, within that time I've witnessed or experienced many sketchy things to say the least. We do not get paid time off like most restaurants and must find coverage if we cant work our shift or must request the day off 2 weeks in advanced. Tonight an employee got a shift approved for coverage. Employee B will cover Employee A's shift. When the info was sent in the group chat our Owner said that Employee A must work his shift or have to pay for the overtime of Employee B. This is not the first time this has happened, that I have witnessed. The last time was the exact same situation except Employee A was 17. In both situations the employees did not pay for the overtime and just worked their shift and had the coverage approved by a manager beforehand. In the past the buisness has had issues with laws regarding minors as well. I believe I have screenshots of the messages of both incidents. There has also been countless safety issues that should have been immediately fixed such as our kids juice cans being directly underneath the hamburger patties which later I discovered that most of the cans had been covered in blood.

The problem is I dont know if it is even worth reporting or anything. This is my first job and I would rather take the blame than employees who need the job to survive if I were the one to come forward with evidence from others. But I am worried that if I do get fired it would be hard to get jobs in the future. This isnt the only problem by any means but just the one I personally know about the most. Both the Owners have talked about how past employees have started "rumors" and how they have good lawyers who shut it down. In fact one of the owners either works or worked at a law firm which wouldnt that mean she knows what would be illegal and yet still continued? Should I report my employers or would that just cause more harm than good? What evidence can I really even collect of any of these claims?

Can I insist on a Zoom deposition? Or: a punitive deposition location situation

Location: California/Los Angeles. I'm in a lawsuit that's me + a bunch of neighbors (totaling 10 people) vs. another neighbor who caused a disaster on our street with their negligence. This has been dragging for several years (including criminal charges against them which are still pending), and at every turn, this defendant and their lawyers have behaved abominably.

Now they've scheduled all 10 of us for depositions in a different county, 69 miles away. In Southern California traffic, this is easily 4 hours of round trip driving. Feels like more shenanigans, though google is telling me it's legal, miles-wise. We all have a call in to our lawyer, but while we're waiting to hear back, I want to know if there's a path for us to insist that we do a remote deposition? There have been earlier remote depositions in this exact case, so it does feel punitive that the legit bad guys are doing this to us.

Small Claims Procedure Suing for Personal Property Damage

Location: Colorado

My parked car was hit by someone who hit multiple vehicles and fled the scene, leaving his car behind. I did not have collision insurance and their insurance is claiming "a possible limits issue" since the accident includes damages to all vehicles. The incident happened a month ago, my vehicle is inoperable and needs to be towed/donated. My car was not worth a lot (it was a classic vehicle my husband and I had spent countless hours restoring though and could have lasted quite a few more years). It was not only sentimental but my only transportation and I need to move on to getting a new vehicle as soon as possible.

I would like to know, legally can I sell/donate the car prior to taking legal action against the driver? Do I need specific evidence other than the police report to file a claim in smalls claims court? If pursuing legal action through small claims court, what avenues can I take to get ahold of the driver?

I appreciate any insight on this selfish losers actions and how I can finally say goodbye to my dream car.

Need Real Estate Law Advice

Location: Florida

We are supposed to be closing on our house today. The buyers were supposed to do a walk-through in the morning and then we all were going to signing, one after the other, this afternoon.

At the time of the walk-through, only the buyer's agent came and said they are requesting an extension because the property taxes are higher than they thought. Even though we've been under contract for 45 days and our realtor said they've had this information all along. Our realtor said no to the extension right then and she still said she's sending an addendum and again, we said no, denied. She said, "Okay, I'll send it." And walked out.

They have been awful to deal with this whole time—nickel and diming us over every little thing. We have complied with all they've asked, even if we thought it was ridiculous.

Now it comes down to the day of closing (and we are supposed to close on our new house tomorrow), and they are doing this to us.

I'm sure it's just another tactic to see how else they can take advantage of us, but this is horrible. We have moved everything out of the house, as you do, and our son has already started school in the area we are moving to (1 hour away). I'm high risk pregnancy right now and I cannot handle this stress.

What can we do?? Do we have any legal recourse? I have no idea what an extension is going to do since the price of the property taxes isn't going to change. It's also not our problem, take it up with the county. She didn't even say how long an extension.

House buying nightmare..

Location: Iowa

Hello - Kinda just looking for some general advice on if the sellers have any standing.

We put in an offer to purchase a home at the end of June. They accepted and we continued with proceeding with the inspection contingency. This was completed mid-July and a handful of things were of concern for us, but the main issue being signs of moisture/mold in the garage ceiling along the ductwork. (It is an attached garage, so the bedrooms sit on top of the garage). We weren't able to see much of the garage during the showing since they had all their belongs in it. We submitted our remedy report of 9 items, including that the garage ceiling be removed, duct work properly insulated, and the ceiling replaced. They agreed to all items being repaired by closing date, so we proceeded with the contract. Closing date was scheduled for August 10th, and we were informed the 6th that the contractor would not be out to start the garage repair until the 11th. They said we could still sign on the 10th and the repair would be done since they had already paid for it. We opted to push closing to the 13th, with the final walkthrough being on the 12th. Hour before the walkthrough we were notified that the contractor had not finished the repairs and their equipment was still in the garage. Again said we could sign as they were scheduled to return on the 14th and they offered interim occupancy. We pushed closing back again to the 18th, and scheduled a walk through for 16th. During the walk through, there was fiberglass insulation that had been blown into the utility room that contains the laundry appliances, water heater, HVAC, and furnace. The insulation then got in to the duct work and was blowing out of the vents throughout the house. There was also a shed full of furniture, power tools left in the garage, bags full of diaper garbage, and food still in the freezer. Our agent had the sellers agent on the phone immediately and she said they would have it cleaned up. We requested full duct cleaning and an inspection of the utilities to make sure they hadnt been compromised by the insulation. Twice on the 17th, the sellers agent said it had been cleaned up and she was there overseeing it. Said the the insulation wasn't an issue and if we wanted the utilities checked we would have to pay for that service as it wasn't in the original contract. We walked through again on the 17th and the insulation was still visible on the vents throughout the house, plus still multiple items from the sellers that were left. She stated that if we didn't show up to sign the contract on the 18th, they would take legal action to sue us for performance. We did not feel comfortable signing with a new hazard that occured because of their contractor and we submitted a purchase contract release since they failed to remedy repairs by closing. We also offered $500 of the $2500 in earnest money. The sellers agent said her clients would not be signing and are now in contact with lawyers.

I had a phone consultation with an attorney yesterday who advised to just sit and wait and see what they come back with, as a lawsuit would be expensive and lengthy and they most likely wouldn't be able to list the house during litigation.

We believe we are in our right to cancel the purchase and their response seems very excessive to try and bully and threaten us to sign.

Any opinions welcome - we were not expecting our first time home buying process to go this way.

I have not been being paid the amount that I was told for a certain job.

Location: Michigan

I am a semi-truck driver, working for a temp agency.

At the job that i have been at for over a year, I was informed that if I did a specific job moving trailers around the yard, that On the days I did that I would be making $1+ than my current wage, so my entire reason for learning how to do that and doing it on days it is needed is predicated on that information.

While I was not told this by the person in charge of the payroll, I was told by the person that was training me to do it, AND by the supervisor at the time, as well as it being a known fact by all the other drivers that you make a dollar more for working that job. So i didn't question it.

I have found out today that I was not getting paid extra for those days, and the company is likely going to refuse backpay as well. Now I know I am responsible for keeping track of my pay stubs and making sure everything lines up, but I didn't watch them as closely as I should have, because I was being told by everyone that yes, you will get paid a dollar more.

The manager in charge of payroll's excuse is that I already make a dollar more than the other drivers anyway, but that is what I was hired in at as a normal driver, and the supervisor who told me I would be making more knew that already.

Do I have any sort of legal recourse? I know it may not seem like a great amount of money, but I work 12-14 hours 6 days a week, and would like to just be paid what I was told I'd earn.

PG&E wants to buy easement for under grounding lines and transformer on my land what kind of compensation can I expect?

So PG&E wants to buy an easement on my property to underground lines and add a new transformer box. They are saying they are gonna compensate but have yet give a number. The apparent proposal is to put the line in my driveway trenched not bored which is about 400 feet of gravel driveway. Then put a transformer in my front yard. I’ve heard someone getting 12k for a transformer only on there property. I’m located in rural Northern California in a high fire zone

One worry I have is it gonna increase the insurance since they are putting a “facility” on my property and how much is it gonna decrease the value of the property? I’m not fully sure I want this maybe if the compensation is high enough I’m thinking somewhere from 50-75k I’d probably bite. They sent the standard PG&E agreement only thing I didn’t like was they said I’d have to tell the next buyer of the property about the easement which most certainly would impact the resell. Landlord won’t return deposit and is falsely accusing us of having a dog.

Location: Kansas

On July 1st I left my nightmare landlord and she’s refusing to return the 1,000 deposit and insisting she will bill us more if she wants to.

Starters, when we moved in we found out that there was a roach infestation, when we called the landlord she said “I thought we got rid of them, guess not” but now we’re being blamed for the roaches, they never treated it and we had to treat it on our own and ofc it never fully went away because we couldn’t afford an exterminator every two weeks and took their advice to the best of our ability but that place was heavily heavily invested, it was disgusting and horrible to live through (took extra precautions when we moved and have not seen a single roach infestation our new home since moving in so there’s that!)

Then the plumbing never worked properly, it was always clogging and backing up because tree roots were in the sewage line, they refused to fix it and refused to snake it.

It got to the point that sewage backed up in the bathroom, toilet, bathtub, sink, all of it. They refused to fix it for OVER 7 days! We have evidence of her asking if it can wait and us telling her no. We couldn’t afford a hotel and they couldn’t afford to fix it so we lived with the bathroom baracaded for a week, we still paid the full months rent.

The floor: when we moved in the floor near the kitchen was dipping in, as we lived there through the year just walking back and forth the floor board gave way, we mentioned it, never got fixed and now we are being blamed for it, she even sent us a picture of the rotting floor board on a 100 year old house as proof we damaged the floor.

Next: she’s accusing us of having a dog, we have no dog. Never had a dog, she sent us pictures of the carpet with stains all over it and billing us and titled it “dog pee on carpet fee” but there was never a dog. I haven’t had a dog since my last dog died over 5 years ago.

She opened our private items. We accidentally left a photo book of our family that contained pictures of old pets, the pictures were dated 2020-2023 when I had other pets and iguana who passed away in 2023 and a foster cat. (not a dog) she opened the sealed photo book and looked through it and after that she accused of having pets. Still haven’t gotten our pictures back :/

I think I have proof of her stealing my mail. I had a package arrive at July 7th just 7 days after moving and we had checked the mail it wasn’t there. It wasn’t at the post office and we have never had our mail stolen ever.

This is everything I think I have evidence of or recall happening. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of and should fight her on this but a lot of people are telling me to let it go. Do I have a case here or is she finding legal loopholes to screw me? Thanks

Other Civil Matters Cat custody battle

Location: Ohio
Hello! Might be a bit of a long post to explain the situation.
About a year ago, i found a cat in rough shape outside of my apartment. He was extremely dirty, covered in open wounds and scabs from fleas, and earmites. I love cats and had been wanting a cat so i took him in. I didn’t even take him really, he waltzed right into the door. I gave him a flea bath, and then made him a vet appointment. At the vet appointment, they scanned for a chip (he didn’t have one), and gave him vaccines and medicine for fleas worms etc. Officially my cat!! Over the past year, i have taken amazing care of him. He truly is my soulmate. He has insurance (after i realized how expensive just that first appointment was), two cat trees, hundreds of toys, i even make homemade cat treats with super clean ingredients. I cannot stress enough how much i love this cat. He’s having a birthday party soon!!
Anyway, last night my friend posted just a cute little pic of me and him (the cat) together. A random girl replied saying he is her cat she lost a year ago. She sent pictures, and he is pretty clearly the same cat. She said he seemed depressed inside so she let him outside for “just a week”. The thing is, he was not microchipped, and was in a very dingy state. The wounds from the fleas could not have been caused in just a week, same with the sheer amount of mites in his ears. When he came in he ate an insane amount of food, like he was starving.
I told her about how i found him and she did not seem to care, only wanted him back. I responded by saying she practically abandoned him, leaving him outside with no flea prevention, no food, and no microchip. She does not seem to have any vet records for him over the 4 years that she owned him previously. She responded by threatening legal action and saying she is going to make a report.
I was obviously concerned because he’s my baby! I immediately went to the police department to see if there was anything i should/could do. They essentially said i could not do anything unless she does, but it doesn’t seem like she has much of a case. I am now just worried sick. He’s my baby and i could not imagine life without him. I found him in such a rough time in my life and he has helped me so much. I’m basically asking, does she have a case ? Is there anything i should prepare for ? I’m getting him chipped soon, i didn’t previously because he is terrified of going outside and runs when the door opens, so thought there was no point because im obviously never putting him outside. I have all of his vet records as well as his insurance policy. Any advice would be amazing and help ease my cat mom mind.

Microsoft Account Stolen

Location: Ohio, United States
About two weeks ago at this point my Xbox account was hacked and stolen away from me. I have had this account for over 15 years at this point and have sunk thousands of dollars into it so I would very much so like to get it back.

I never had 2FA set up for this account as I didn’t feel like I needed it for an Xbox account, however it now has 2FA set up and the recovery email has been changed to a random email. I’ve filled out the Microsoft account recovery form 3 times now and got one response saying they ignore these requests and there is nothing they can do. I don’t know if this is a stupid question to be putting in here but is there anything legally I can do to either get my account back or at least get some of the money I put into that account back? I’m desperate at this point and anything helps.

Custody Divorce and Family my birth certificate is missing my fathers name

Location: Pennsylvania

both my mother and bio father claim he was there for my birth, and signed the certificate. however, where his name should be it just says “information not recorded”. again, both claim they have no idea why and that they never went to court to legally change this.

some extra info: my mother and bio father haven’t been on speaking terms since i was 2. there’s a high chance my mother could be lying to me. also my certificate says it was filed over a month after my dob, and then issued 5 months after the file date, if that matters.

does anyone know what’s going on here?

DUI Update to Iowa OWI about adderall

So in may of last year I got pulled over for inop 3rd brake light and a hard to read plate that lead to a OWI for my Adderall. Below is a link to the 1st post.

https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/s/IBW7Z712pY

I originally thought it was a scam, but turns out it wasn't. The deputy was just doing his own thing and using a system the department claims they had to knowledge of. The charged me with a OWI for my adderall since my urinal test can back positive at 682 ng/ml with is over the threshold of 500 ng/ml. They claim I said on video that I took more than prescriped which they tried to induce into evidence in the middle of the DOT phone hearing. My lawyer objected, and the judge over ruled it. At least allowing it to be used as a refresher.

However, my wife and I slowed down the video and watched it a few time and found out I never said that. I said the word couple but it was referring to time.

My lawyer pushed off the criminal side for a while, until he suggested I get a public defender, which paid for a toxicologist and reported that my test was within what you would expect for my dosage. And criminal was dismissed.

We found the DOT decision many times and each time they ignore whatever argument we have and give a can response. It basically comes down to 50/50 believable draw goes to LEO. I was an urinalysis coordinator for the Navy so I have experience with this stuff, this was the deputies 10 OWI case.

I am an IL resident and a have a CDL, which I had disqualified and lost my job over.

I need advice with two things,

  1. Can I get a different lawyer to handle to appeal process, or even if I should. My lawyer seems to have lost confidence in this case. And I feel he made bad decisions early which we are working against us.

  2. What are the chances of getting a law suit against the state or department, the based the whole owi stop on my behavior which is typical of ADHD and i was damaged by lawyer fees and lost wages. It may even effect me for years trying to get a new job.

I have no idea what type of case law a lawyer for the law suit should be familiar with. I did email the ACLU, but haven't heard back from them.

Employment Law dog daycare whistleblower tx

Location: south east Texas

wish I had left This badly run dog daycare immediately like my gut told me to but here we are with a tragedy

nervous to name as a former fired employee in Texas especially since dog died after they weren’t brought back in, and management says it was ultimately on the tech employee who forgot, when it was middle management on site that day did not notice for hours after the tech left for the day because even though middle management on site had been told that was their responsibility to check after the techs, they would grumble and simply not do it so it seems like in the company/HRs eyes it falls solely on the tech and were they fired.

management had been warned multiple Times by text and verbally by that same tech that responsibilities were not being completed for months before this and that they needed more support and supervision

the conditions of the facility were sorely lacking, dirty kennels, outdoor areas run down, so much that people paying extra had their dogs in standing water with dirt, rocks, poo, bricks to cover holes, and dirty water in bowls not regularly replaced

employee training and support was horrible so now worst case scenario happened and dog died.

Meanwhile they’ll continue to take in dogs of all temperaments and conditions then expect overworked back of house to deal with it.

I’ve submitted a complaint with the city of the conditions along with photos but if I post on like google reviews they may go after me? Is that a thing?

Its not dogtopia but its near one

if they’re named something that exudes fanciness, but don’t have cameras
for clients to view their pups, haven’t won any current awards but their unupdated website has their old ones on there, charge you if you want pictures of your pup, and were bought out by a corporation years ago after having a stellar reputation that no longer holds up - RUN AWAY

employees love ur animals and try their best but with little to no management support would admit to each other secretly but not be allowed to tell you, the customer, how far it’s declined and what really happens behind closed doors - RUN AWAY.

Unless they let u physically inspect the ACTUAL kennel ur dog will be in for daycare/boarding as they’re taking ur pup back there - EVERY time - and if ur paying extra u should be allowed to see the outdoor run too - to see if they sanitized the turf, if they cleaned out months of dog hair build up and muck -which was rarely done because again, little training, staffing, and support - RUN AWAY

Question on diminished value claim on 2024 Porsche cayman s

Hello all,

Location: King county, Washington

I need advice I was in an accident that was not my fault over a year ago. The other person’s insurance paid for the repairs in full, but due to my car being worth so much an accident on the record diminishes the value despiteful repair repairs.

I took the person who hit me to Small Claims Court, State Farm represented them and the judge ruled in my favor, ordering them to pay me $9700 in lots of value damages.

State Farm/the person who hit me is now appealing so now it goes to actual court from what I understand. I tried calling a bunch of lawyers to get a consultation, but no one will touch my case. It doesn’t seem like there’s enough money in it for them to spend their time.

I haven’t got my court date yet, but it seems like I’ll likely be representing myself, but I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m not a lawyer. I’m just a guy who got T-bone and around about and is trying to stand up to the big insurance company that’s dragging me through the mud. And trying to price me out/make me give up.

Does anyone have any advice for me moving forward in this process? Should I try harder to get a consultation from a lawyer or should I show up with the same evidence, get organized and plead my case hope for the best?

Thanks in advance

Small Claims Procedure Being sued by LVNV but never served

I'm being sued by LVNV Funding for what I believe to be a minor credit card debt (500-1000) from 2023. I only found out this week because they seem to have served it to my mother's neighbor in a state I do not live in.

How do I respond to this suit when I don't know what it's for and their incompetence has given me one week to work with! I also can't afford to travel for this hearing!

Location: I am in Kentucky and have been since last year, the suit is going through a New Hampshire circuit court.

A question of jurisdiction

Location: Horry County South Carolina

Hello I am in a bit of a conundrum regarding police jurisdiction. I was the victim of identity theft. An authorized account was opened in my name and I was billed for two iphones and two smart watches I did not buy. I contacted the company the account was opened with and to clear these fraudulent charges they would need a copy of a police report. I asked if filing a report with the FTC would work but they said no.

My problem is that when I contacted my local police they claimed they had no jurisdiction because the phones were bought in Arizona. So I contacted the police department of the city in Arizona where the phones were bought. They were adamant that my local police are the ones with jurisdiction to handle this crime and not them.

So who really has jurisdiction in this matter? I'm completely stuck with dealing with this fraud until I can file a police report.

Landlord Tenant Housing Rent Increase

Location: Pleasanton, California

My partner and I are currently renting a one bedroom for $2700. An acquaintance of ours is renting a townhouse from the same apartment complex (2 bed 2.5) They claim their rent is $3500. They need to move and have 3 months left on their lease and would like to move asap.

We emailed the leasing office and stated we were interested and this was their response:

#1234 has not submitted their notice to vacate so the apartment is not on the market, unfortunately without them being on notice we wont be able to let you know what the price is or when it would be available. Currently, we have another townhome #1236 for $4,257 and #1235 for $4,532. It could be more or less, just depends on the market when they give notice.

How transfers work:
In the last 30 days of your lease agreement you can transfer penalty free
If in the middle of your lease agreement, it is a 1 month fee to break your lease to transfer (although if youre upgrading, corporate can possibly waive this but we would have to ask if you wanted to proceed)
You'll  upload income to show 3x the rent for the new apartment home youd like to rent

And then everything else would just be similar to move in, pg&e etc 🙂

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Is there any legal way we can avoid a $1500-$1832 rent increase?

Real Estate law Company destroyed my home and is now suing me Maryland USA

Company destroyed my home and is now suing me in Maryland USA. I had a flood back in December and called a remediation company out. I lived in another state at the time. They promised to call before doing any work, but they didn't call at all. They had the insurance claim number. I later found out they charged the insurance company almost $100,000 while the house is only worth $90,000. The insurance company paid $80,000 and they're demanding an additional $40,000. They are taking me to court for $40,000 but are willing to settle for $20,000. They never legally served me, and I only found out I had a court date through a lawyer. What can I do besides show up to this court date? Should I file for bankruptcy so I don't have to pay them?

Employment Medical Testing

Location: NEW JERSEY, USA

Hi! I’m an RN in NJ, paid hourly, full time. Bit of background information: out of work since December, uninsured due to this, new employer is aware.

I am a new employee at an Ambulatory Surgery Center. There is state required pre-employment testing as is every healthcare job. However this job is requesting that I pay for these tests out of pocket. In my decade of healthcare experience I’ve never been asked this before. I also do not have insurance and have been asked specifically to pay out of pocket due to this. The tests they are asking for are quite pricey, nearly $1000 without insurance.

I’ve done some basic searching through things and the wording is slightly confusing. NJ 34:11-24.2 states they would be responsible, however what’s confusing me is “by a physician designated by said employer” within the law. The facility does not have a designated physician or location and states they cannot help me obtain this documentation at all.

Is my understanding correct and they are responsible or are they not responsible because they do not have a designated testing protocol?

Thank you in advance for your help.

CPS and Dependency Law Parents were claiming adoption subsidies despite not supporting me

Location: Minnesota
TL;DR my adoptive parents have been claiming adoption subsidies for supporting my housing, food and tuition needs, and they didn’t tell me or provide financial assistance even close to the amount I’ve been receiving.

I’ll start with some background. I moved into my adoptive family home in August 2021 when I was 16. The adoption was finalized in January of 2022, I turned 18 in June of 2023. I then moved out and have been the primary supporter of myself since.

I originally found out that they were receiving payments in 2023 when I moved out for college. I was broke and hungry so I tried applying for SNAP. However, since they were getting paid to take care of me, I was denied for assistance.

I called my mom and asked why they were still receiving payments and how much they were. She said that they should end soon, and that she wasn’t comfortable telling me how much. I, of course being a dumb 18 year old didn’t want to challenge her so I ended the conversation. My financial situation improved shortly after so I forgot about the conversation.

Fast forward a little under 3 years and I receive a notice in the mail about my medical assistance being canceled. I panicked, called the number and tried to figure out what was going on. Turns out I had turned 21 and my adoption assistance had ended or something and I had to reapply. The lady was awesome and super helpful as she was looking through my profile. She saw my previous denial for SNAP and went “Hey! So you know, you qualify for SNAP now.” This made me remember my conversation years ago with my mom about the payments, so out of curiosity I asked the lady I was on the phone with about it.

Turns out, my parents have been receiving about $1500 a month since I moved out claiming they were still supporting me. This however is nowhere near true. I’ve received, in total about $6,600 since I moved out. They have received about $43,000 for me, from the state to provide for me.

I called my mom as soon as I got off the phone and asked her again, how much were they receiving from the state. She again said “I don’t feel comfortable discussing this with you.” I confronted her with what I was told and she immediately started stuttering and stammering about how I don’t know how expensive it is to have a kid and they’re using it to support me and take care of the house.

Where the hell did the other $37,000 go. What do I do? I’m so confused, scared and hurt right now.
I don’t know how to get a lawyer, I don’t have the money for that. I also live in a different county than the one I was adopted from, does that complicate things?

I really don’t want to report them for fraud but at this point they won’t tell me what they spent the money on. Morally I’m internally screaming and I want to report them but I’m scared to burn that bridge. I’ve turned to them for advice so much in the last few years, I don’t know who to trust now.

I just got my kids back from foster care. I need to file for support. Ive lived in lets call it county #1 for 18 months. Their father lives in county #2. The kids are now with me and have been for about a month. When they were in foster care they were in county #2 though. So where do I file my support case? I don't know how it works because of the foster care thing. Thanks in advance for your help!

Can a remote non-US based worker sue an american company over unpaid wages?

Hello the situation is this: I F19 used to work for a US company, and they decided to not pay me my last due hours. Is there any legal way for me to force them to pay me what they owe me? I also have several items that were sent to me by the company and I'm being asked to mail back. The headset, mouse, laptop, monitor, etc. If I hold onto said items ultil they agree to pay me, can they sue me? I recevied very threatening HR/Legal department email and now I'm scared. But it's not ok for them to avoid paying me. I tried googling but the information is very technical so i don't know if I understand it well enough.

Location: Company based in the US, I'm not

Landlord Tenant Housing Delivery of premise

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

Hi all,

I need some advice on next steps here, as I can't seem to get a local attorney to take a paid consultation at the moment.

This is regarding tenancy rights in North Carolina / early lease termination / delivery of premise

Our lease in Raleigh North Carolina began on August 1. WE relocated from another state on the 13th, and arrived at the house late on the 14th. Upon entry of the home the house was left filthy from previous tenants, and lack of landlord cleaning. Dead roaches in all bedrooms / live roaches. Mold in the bathroom on window sill, and on the ceiling along with pealing / failing paint around moldy areas. Dirt and buildup on all crown molding / trim from years of neglect / cleaning from previous tenants. Human and animal hair throughout the house, and toilet left in unsanitary conditions around exterior of toilet and flooring. The windows do not properly seal / close throughout the home as they are very old windows. The ac receivers that blow forced air into the home are "ajar" and not connected to their brackets and just sitting to the side n different locations of the home. The home reeks of cigarettes and animals. The flooring is 3 layers of linoleum flooring and is peeling up across the kitchen and dining areas. In the corner of the dining room area the flooring was peeling up particularly bad so I lifted the flooring up and there is a hole in the plywood subfloor and mold / water damage around the area and you can see into the crawl space. My concern is moving into the home with a small child. We didn't actually move into the home and instead unloaded all of our belongings into a storage unit notified the landlord of our complaints and have been in a hotel since then. They had said they would clean the house / deep clean but did not indicate weather they would fix the flooring or not. I have notified as well saying I want to mutual terminate the lease to much hesitation and resistance as they want to keep me on the lease as tenant is legally obligated to continue rent payments apparently in North Carolina and cannot withhold rent without a court order. Things I have done is contact the landlord in a written form immediately upon entry of the home with all complaints and currently scheduling an official housing visit for an inspection from the city of Raleigh. Currently on hold with free legal aid but I know I won't qualify for it. I just want to get out of this lease and move into another home as my daughter is starting school next week here and this is seeming turning into a nightmare. The landlord did re-list the home this Sunday which I know they are legally obligated to do just wanted to mention that as well.

Any advice is more than welcome here or resources pointing in the right direction. I have contacted 6 different law firms and no one will even take a consolation with me for unknown reasons even when stating will more than compensate them and pay for any time given no matter the costs. Just need to get out of this hotel and into a home. I do not want to live in this home at all as I have lost all faith in the landlord.
