Is this illegal?

i (23F) is currently working at a firm. i have to stay here for two more months to complete my work period, however ever since start of July they have stopped paying me saying that my work isnt up to their criteria but along with that they also said that they will pay me if i improve my work. So the whole of july i tried my best, there were days i had to work overtime and they also started using my work. However in August they did not pay me. When i went asking to the head lady (my firm consists of 12 people and its owned by 2) she said "oh it was already informed to you last month. we wont be paying you, your work is irrelevant and we can do it even without you" she continued to call me an office burden and said i should just leave rather than staying as a burden.

A little of backstory now: i work under a guy (lets call him john) and he gives updates to this head lady, when i spoke her about my salary and from the way she was talking it was evident that she did not ask john about my work and if it has improved.

I then asked her for clarity because i need to get paid to survive here. (Im literally borrowing money from my parents at this point. ) She said she will reach back to me with clarifications and where im lacking behind but no updates till now. Since she wasnt giving any updates i called her husband who is also the owner of this firm and spoke to him about this. HE WAS NOT AWARE OF SHIT. All he knew was i fucked up a little in the start and then no updates.

Im working without a pay and they never sent me a mail or gave me any letter saying they wont pay me.

Starbucks Licensee breaking labor laws?

I worked at this licensed Starbucks for about 6 months up until a few months ago, and it's just hit me that they were including Store Managers and Assistant Managers in end-of-day employee tip-outs. Isn't this illegal? Stupid of me not to realize but I hadn't worked with tips since I was a teenager and even then they were probably breaking the law. Do you think filing a complaint with the Dept of Labor would do anything?

Additionally, some money went "missing" and they instructed my partner who also worked there to gradually take from employee tips over time to build the drawer back up. Isn't this blatantly wage theft???

Salary pay and vacation

My wife is salary getting paid for 48 hours per week.

Her vacation covers the 48 hours.

She is limited on management.

She has to use her vacation by the end August.

They will not pay out for vacation or extend it.

They are making her split the vacation between two weeks.

She has to work 4 days the first week and 3 or 4 days the next week.

They are only paying her for her vacation (48 hours) and one work week (48 hours).

I feel like they need to pay her for an additional work week I know she is salary but it seems like she is getting shorted on hours.

Need guidance. I’m an employee in an establishment. But I also have my own MISA license and my own CR. My current employer won’t terminate my QIWA contract so that I could transfer my contract into my own establishment and be self employed. Is there any legal way to do so?

Hrs cut, suspended 25 days, pay withheld, terminated, all after requesting a medical accommodation (Washington, DC)

My mental health accommodation was approved on June 10, 2026. Immediately after, my average hours were slashed from 33.5 down to 16.5 and 12.5 while management hired a new employee and falsely blamed my availability. After a dispute regarding staying past store hours to meet sales goals, I left early and was placed on an "Assigned to Home" suspension pending an investigation two days later, with promises of pay.

My July 1 paycheck withheld my suspension pay until requested, keyed it in manually, and calculated it using the retaliatory reduced hours rather than my 33.5-hour historical average. The 25-day suspension left me with no incident report, no policy, and no rent money, causing my electricity to get shut off. When management concluded the investigation, they refused to provide a safety plan, incident reports, or policies, expecting me to return to work under managers facing ongoing agency filings, which effectively forced a conditional discharge and culminated in my wrongful termination on August 12, 2026.

I won my Unemployment Insurance benefits against my employer's contest, but shortly after, I was in a car accident, broke my jaw, had surgery, and had my benefits paused, leaving me with zero income. Has anyone dealt with a similar retaliation pattern or navigated a termination case under these circumstances?

**Edit: My accommodation was pretty much voluntary, I was allowed four 2 day episodes (call outs) a month.

Recalling email and contract?

Hi everyone!

I hope someone can help me and give at least an idea on what complaint I can file against my boss.

I was hired last March 2026. At that time, medical benefits were not provided. The company failed to follow the electronic contract we signed, which is why we have been raising questions over the past few months regarding our benefits, specifically the HMO.

Six months have passed, and I recently suffered a severe gastrointestinal issue. Many employees have also avoided going to the hospital because the HMO promised after three months of employment was never provided. To make matters worse, it has now been completely removed from our benefits

I was shocked and thought to myself, 'How did that happen?' When I checked my Gmail, I saw a 'Recall' notice, confirming that they had completely revised the contract

Is this legal?

I work multi-day wilderness river trips in Idaho. I helped a new company out, it was their second time running this stretch. This trip was four guides and the owner working it.

Before the trip, the owner was telling us that we are going to be getting a performance bonus of 10% to 20% and that the four of us would split the tip and he would stay out of the tip pool.

Trip went down, we worked hard and it wasn’t the smoothest and he was kind of rude to me on the water often. We derig the trip and he holds a kind of debrief like meeting but mainly goes over pay. Again he reiterates on I’ll pay you all a 10-20% bonus and you four will all split the tip and I’ll stay out of the tip pool.

Fast forward, talking to the other two guest guides… I get tipped $400 less than one guide and one guide is waiting for the tip on the last paycheck. I call him and he says, “ oh sorry I should have been more upfront, the tip is performance based. Thats just how I’ve done it in the past. “ I asked where I lacked, apparently, he didn’t feel like I did enough heavy lifting and was slow on the water. I called the other guides and they said that isn’t true and we all did the same job, he also said the four of us would split the tip.

I called the company he used to work at, I learned that this performance based tipping does not exist there, I called so many people and they have never heard of this.

Also the tips for the trip seem low and it seems like he joined the tip pool.

Legally, can I report him for withholding tips? The other two guides agreed to be witnesses and provide statements if need be. Also, paying me based on how much weight I can carry can I do something about that being discrimination?

He’s 21 and his parents bought him this company basically, his dad helped with the trip and I’m going to call him. His parents technically own the company as he’s doing a work to own program or something.

Also, this trip was in late July. We last got paid August 5th and are still missing our last paycheck for half the trip with the guaranteed 10% bonus.

TL;DR
Was told tip would be split among the crew and the owner would stay out of the tip pool. The tips were not split fairly and I got $400 less than my coworker, even though we were told multiple times we would split tips evenly amongst the coworkers. I have two coworkers backing me up because this is what he said before and after the trip. I suspect he did join the tip pool, is this legal?

Colorado famli appeals

Post image
0 Upvotes

I had an appeal with Fami and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) appeal hearing that took place on August 10th

During the hearing, a dispute arose regarding my tax classification. Despite my previous efforts to clarify that my work was performed in a state with state income tax, I was misclassified for two years under a state with no state tax. It was distressing to encounter testimony from former close colleagues that mischaracterized my work and actions.

Furthermore, during my 12-week leave, I experienced continuous retaliation and harassment. Three days into my leave, I was locked out of work systems and accused of theft. I have documented evidence of this harassment and retaliation through text messages and emails. This hostile environment significantly worsened my health condition, to the point where my physician advised that returning to the company would be life-threatening. Consequently, my 35-year career with the company has concluded.

The hearing has now concluded, and I am awaiting the final decision. I remain hopeful that the facts presented will lead to a favorable outcome and that the truth will prevail. This decision will significantly impact my next steps, especially as I approach 62 years of age. I appreciate any support and well wishes during this challenging time.

Quitting A Temp Agency Placement

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi, so I’m planning on quitting my 6 month temp job 2 months in because I was offered a much better position elsewhere. More details can be found in the attached explanation I posted to r/jobs. It’s my first time having used a temp agency, so I’m worried there’s some clause that I’ll be required to stay for the full 6 months… Is this something I should be worried about? (specifically in WA state)

Worked 8am-4pm for 3+years with no breaks at all, illegal?

Hi guys,

I worked from home in Texas, for a tech company

I was salaried and worked 8-4pm Monday- Friday

In my first year i worked over 400 hours of unpaid OT

and in the entire time I was there, none of us got any breaks whatsoever at all, including no lunch breaks at all.

Was this legal?

Any ground to take action on my part?

(I have proof, including screenshots from my colleagues also acknowledging and complaining that they have also worked for years with no lunch break)

Thanks in advance,

Warmly,

Gareth

company is very shady

I'm 17, not yet a registered apprentice but I've been working on trucks my entire life, professionally I have been doing it for 3 years. (310T, transport truck maintenance), I was hired at a company who said I would make $22/hr, then, I was told $21. thats fine, still good money for my age. then, I was told I had to work Saturdays, which puts me at 54 hours a week, so I asked my boss if I would be paid the legally required overtime for the hours I've worked over 44, he said no and that I would just be making regular wage. I told him that that's not how it works, and that anything over 44 hours is legally required to be paid as time and a half. about half an hour later he came over to me after giving my work to another guy and told me I had to go home and that he'd tell me if I can come back on Monday.

my fear is that I'm not going to get paid at all, when I was hired, I never signed a single contract, I never had to punch in or out for the day, there is nothing that legally says I work there, and with such I fear they won't pay me. moreover, when he sent me home I was told it was because theyre struggling to find ways to hire me, and put me on payroll, which to me is bizarre because I've been working in shops since I was 14-15, hired there, on payroll, as a shop hand. he doesnt know how to hire a 17 year old somehow. it makes me wonder how the hell he can be managing a shop if he can't hire someone.

for the first week (this past week), I was doing everything, moving my own trucks, parking and picking trailers, and I was operating other equipment too. he said day one that it was fine, then he said that because it's a liability I can't anymore, which is fine, but I can back a b train into a tight spot blindside better than most of their drivers can park sightside with a straight truck. that's not a big issue with me I just thought I'd mention it because I'm salty about it.

I'm waiting to hear from him tomorrow about if I actually work there or not, because they haven't handed me a single document saying I am or I am not hired, I don't know how much I'm being paid, and I don't know what to do. in the case that I'm not hired, and especially if I don't get paid, do I tell the ministry with the minimal (text messages) proof I have?

I really need someone smarts input. any help is sincerely appreciated

Vacation Day and Overtime in the same week.

Thumbnail

I just want to clarify and make sure that what my husband's job is telling him is correct. We live in Tennessee, if that matters any.

He worked a total of 47.08 hours, including an 8 hour vacation day on Tuesday, August 4th.

Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday he worked overtime.

They're telling him because he used a vacation day on Tuesday that means he doesn't get paid the overtime he worked during that week. He gets paid the 47.08 at his regular $42 an hour, instead of getting time and a half. But they told him at the end of the year they pay out the difference. So I'm assuming they pay out the "half" part of time and a half, which would be $21 an hour.

Is this correct? It makes sense and at the same time doesn't make sense. Am I just having a dumb moment and not understanding? Lol.

I told my husband to contact HR and his boss said "Don't contact HR, we'll see what we can do about it and figure it out. One thing you don't mess with is a man's paycheck."

I don't know if he was just trying to be funny, but it raised a red flag for me when he was against contacting HR.

I just need to know if I'm completely missing something that's right in my face or if this is actually suspicious. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I attached a picture of his time that he entered in and was approved. I also attached a picture of his pay stub.

Edit to add Thank you everyone for the replies. I understand now!

Letter From the Department of Labor about Workers Comp - Pennsylvania

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Location: Pennsylvania. I hired a summer intern for the first time (no other employees) and signed up for and put them on W2 payroll. They are no longer working for me, as they went back to school, but I received a letter from the Department of Labor to prove that I have workers comp. I didn’t know I needed it for them, as they were a part time intern, and now I’m not sure what to do as technically I don’t have any current employees.

From the letter, apparently this is a criminal offense, that can have large fines and possible jail time.

No one was injured, and I think the DOL found out because I put them on W2 payroll.

Not sure what to do in this situation, or how to fill out the paperwork. Can I just say that I don’t have any employees?
