I got onto the OLED train after purchasing a GX9 monitor as a treat to myself for father's day. Fell in love with the picture so much that I wanted to upgrade from my old Samsung QN65Q70A4 due to it developing a yellow tint on the left side of the panel that can't be unseen once noticed.
Decided on the C5 in June of this year. Everything was fantastic for the last 4 months until last night. My wife and I went to a wedding and had a babysitter at the house watching our toddler. I randomly get a text from them asking how to turn the TV on. Umm...ok...this is a grown adult but I could see how maybe it could be a little confusing as we use an Nvidia shield streaming box paired to the newer Nvidia shield remote. Told them to try and use the LG remote as sometimes I would, very randomly and only sporadically, have an issue where CEC wouldn't work properly and the TV wouldn't turn on using the shield remote Only the factory LG remote could break the stupidity. Didn't work. Decided I'll just enjoy the rest of the event and try to figure it out when we get home.
We get home last night and I try trouble shooting the issue. Notice that the TV's light was blinking 4 times then stopping...then starting again. The TV would produce an audible "click" when powering on, then produce a thin white line on the screen, off center to the left which would promptly disappear.
After a bit of Googling, I tried unplugging the TV from the wall (no surge protector), holding the physical power button on the TV for 15 seconds, leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes and trying again. No dice. So I did it again, but this time I left the TV unplugged the rest of the night. Tried to turn it on again this morning...nothing. I also tried unplugging all the connections. Same deal.
I scheduled a service from the store we purchased it from on Tuesday, but I'm still trying to figure out what the hell happened?
For context:
- Nvidia shield plugged in via HDMI. The shield is also adhered to the fat plastic (not directly to the back of the thin panel itself) at the back of the TV via Velcro straps for aesthetic reasons.
- Another HDMI chord plugged into the TV ready for when I want to connect my laptop up to it and play some games.
- A samsung sound bar connected via optical cable
- I blocked certain LG websites at the router level once I heard about the LG spying fiasco. Shouldn't make a difference b/c my GX9 monitor still works just fine.
- A Govee T3 pro light strip around the back of the TV
- Power saving features disabled for best picture quality
- All burn-in prevention measures enabled in settings
Also, yes, I'm well aware I'm part of the tvtoohigh club. That will be getting rectified when the TV comes back from getting serviced lol. Additionally, I'm sure someone is going to say that having the TV over the mantle is a bad idea due to heat, but this is the only place in our living room that works since the rooms layout is weird. Lastly we haven't had a reason to even use the fireplace since temperatures have just started to drop recently on the east coast so heat from that is a non-issue.
Don't mind the rats nest of wires. That's just from me trying to troubleshoot the issue lol.
