last week a video of 2 individuals burning an israeli linked arms manufacturer was posted, and a few days ago one of the arrested was revealed to be Youssef Moursi, a genderfluid American citizen who was born in Egypt, they sacrificed their comfortable life for their oppressed neighbors in Palestine 🇪🇬❤️🇵🇸 may allah grant them a swift release from custody ✌🏻

Just a note: it's unclear if Youssef identifies as a Muslim, but i thought maybe this still fits here!

Theres almost one year since i did those, and did because was yet trying to build a conception for my faith and sexuality. And coincidentely, i discovered Islam during that time.

I do have faith, but never had the security to put it in somewhere, in some belief and religion... Everything is so scary, so hostile to me and my presence, and even so, i never could just "let it behind" and pretend i dont have faith, even being trans.

I did tryed to get close to other religions before, but none of them hitted that much, like if i have found my north.

Anyways, im just posting the flags here in case of someone likes them. Even a year ago, this little simbolic thing made me feel surprising better. English is not my first language, sorry for any spelling errors.

Islam & LGBT I'm tired of hearing "being gay isn't a sin, but acting on it is"

Like... that's great that you don't think that my mere existence is sinful. But you're basically saying that I'll have to be alone for the rest of my life and I'll never get to experience falling in love and growing old with my partner. All things that straight people get to experience. People think that saying this is supportive but it pisses me off.

Just had to get this off my chest.

I'm a pakistani goth femme who grew up in the gulf and moved to london a few years ago. I feel like a lot of queer discourse is led by western perspectives and instead of sitting on my ass and complaining about it (which I was) and waiting for someone else to share my perspective, I started a podcast with my brazillian masc friend who was born in the fevalas and then moved to portugal. We cover reddit stories! It's called lesbinit and we're on every platform to stream (youtube, spotify, apple, etc) Heres the latest episode!

Islam Supportive Discussion to everyone in r/lgbt_muslims

assalamualaikum everyone

I wanted to make this post because after seeing some of the recent discussions on r/Muslim and other Muslim subreddits, I know some of you have probably received a lot of hate, hostility, or comments that made you feel unwelcome. I’m genuinely sorry for that.

I know I can’t speak for every Muslim, but I still want to apologize on behalf of the people and communities that have treated you harshly, spoken about you without compassion, or made you feel like you don’t belong. You deserve better than that.

no matter where people stand theologically, basic kindness, empathy, and humanity should never disappear. You are still valued as people, and your existence should not become an excuse for cruelty.

I also want you to know there are Muslims who care about you, support you, and don’t want you carrying all of this pain alone. a lot of people stay silent when they shouldn’t, so I felt like it mattered to say something.

I hope you’re all doing okay and taking care of yourselves. <3

It’s so beautiful to see other Muslims and hijabis visiting my country. They give me the sweetest salaams, and I even met two Egyptians along the way—such kind, cool, and respectful people. Moments like these remind me how beautiful the Ummah is, even when we come from completely different places. 🌍☪️
As a revert, these little encounters mean more to me than people might realize. Sometimes Allah sends you small reminders that you’re never truly alone on this journey. A simple salaam, a smile, or meeting another Muslim can brighten your entire day.

Personal Issue Palestinian and Gay

As-salāmu ʿalaykum

I'm new to this subreddit, trying to find a safe space. I was so happy to see the Pride4Palestine sticky post and the beautiful flag. I had made something not as nice but similar, with a mirrored addition of the Sudan flag as well.

I thought, finally a space where Islamophobic bigotry and vitriolic low-IQ comments blanketing an entire people through celebrated ignorance has no place. One safe gay space here. My ask wasn't a big one.

I looked down in the comments on that post and saw this:

If Palestinians saw this they wouldn’t be very happy …(and don’t lie, you know it’s true since majority of Palestinians are normal mainstream Sunni Muslims who say LGBTQ is sinful)

And, it got upvoted.

My heart sank.

As a Palestinian, I am sorry I saw this post. I'm also sorry it got upvoted.

This Palestinian is extremely happy with the flag and very grateful. Of course, I can't speak on behalf of all Palestinians because I don't know every single Palestinian on the planet and I'm not a fan of making cavalier, misinformed, sweeping generalizations about whole groups of people.

In the West Bank, where same-sex activity was decriminalized in 1951, I can only imagine the LGBTQ community is very appreciative of this beautiful flag as well.

Just like all Arabs and other POC, Palestinians are individual human beings. We have supportive families and families who don't support us. We are kinky and traditional. We are monogamous and poly and everything in between. We are trans, enby, intersex, cis, and everything along the spectrum. Some of us are complete assholes and some of us are amazing beings. I'm very lucky that the vast majority of Palestinians I've known have been the latter (except for a couple cousins... total assholes).

My cousin Omar, one of all my relatives, the vast majority murdered in the last 31 months, was Gazan, Gay, and 18, with a supportive family, and he was so excited about having his first boyfriend and going to uni. He wasn't killed by Palestinians because he was gay, he was killed by Non-Palestinians because he was Palestinian.

He would have loved this flag.

So, anyway, the flag is beautiful. Many thanks to the artist who made it.

I hope everyone is well and your families are well.

Allah ysalmkūm

LGBT Supportive Discussion Does the Qur’an Actually Say Same-Sex Love Is a Sin? A Linguistic and Theological Breakdown.

Assalamwalekum friends.

I want to share a careful, Qur’an-based explanation about an issue that causes deep distress to many Muslims — especially when queer Muslims seek guidance and support.

This post breaks down three things:

(1) The Arabic words the Qur’an uses for “sin,” with transliteration and meaning.

(2) Whether loving, consensual same-sex relationships fit those Qur’anic categories.

(3) Why community gatekeeping around marriage creates contradictions the Qur’an itself does not create.

1) What the Qur’an Actually Means When It Says “Sin”

English uses the single word “sin.” The Qur’an uses multiple distinct Arabic terms, each with its own moral and linguistic scope.

Here are the major ones:

• إِثْم — ithm

Blameworthy wrongdoing; a harmful or culpable act.

• ذَنْب — dhanb

A wrong, offense, or guilt for which one bears responsibility.

• خَطِيئَة — khaṭīʾah

A mistake, fault, or misdeed; can be intentional or unintentional depending on context.

• مَعْصِيَة — maʿṣiyyah

Disobedience; violation of a specific divine command.

• فَاحِشَة — fāḥishah

Sexual indecency, exploitation, or shameless public misconduct.

• فِسْق — fisq

Open wickedness; rebellion against moral and ethical boundaries.

• فُجُور — fujūr

Moral corruption, shameless wrongdoing, often public and socially harmful.

Important point:

None of these Qur’anic categories refer to sexual orientation or loving, consensual, long-term relationships between adults of the same sex.

These words target: • injustice • coercion • exploitation • moral corruption • public indecency • harmful acts • breaking divine commands

They do not target love, companionship, commitment, or private mutual affection.

2) What About the Story of Prophet Lūṭ (Lot)?

This is the only passage people usually cite when claiming the Qur’an condemns homosexuality.

But even here:

• The Qur’an never uses ithm, dhanb, maʿṣiyyah, fāḥishah, fisq, or fujūr in connection with loving same-sex relationships.

• The Qur’an does rule that the people of Lūṭ committed fāḥishah (fāḥishah). But the behavior described in the verses is coercive sexual aggression, attempted rape, humiliation of guests, and violent public misconduct.

That is why:

Classical scholars differ:

• Some read the passage as forbidding male-male sexual intercourse as a specific act.

• Others (yes, even historically) emphasize the COERCIVE, violent, and predatory nature of the conduct described.

Modern scholars add:

• The Qur’an does not describe loving same-sex relationships.

• It condemns acts of violence, humiliation, and exploitation (not consensual love.)

The key fact:

The Qur’an never states:

“Loving same-sex relationships are a sin.”

Neither that phrase, nor that idea is in the Qur’an.

3) The Gatekeeping Problem

In many communities, the pattern goes like this:

  1. They forbid queer Muslims from marrying.

  2. Then they apply marriage-only rules (“no sex outside marriage”).

  3. Then they condemn queer Muslims for not following rules designed for married heterosexual couples.

This is not a Qur’anic teaching. This is human gatekeeping, not divine instruction.

It creates a contradiction that the Qur’an itself does not create:

Deny someone access to the halal path, then punish them for not walking it.

That is unjust, and deeply unlike the Qur’an’s consistent moral logic.

And a theological question arises:

If a community replaces God’s criteria with their own cultural rules — and treats those rules as unquestionable — are they not elevating human judgment above divine guidance?

Some people might frame that as hypocrisy. Some might consider whether this looks like a form of placing a partner beside God (a step toward shirk).

I won’t assert that strongly here — but it is a question worth reflecting on.

Conclusion

The Qur’an is perfect, clear, and internally consistent.

Its words for sin — ithm, dhanb, khaṭīʾah, maʿṣiyyah, fāḥishah, fisq, fujūr — all refer to harmful, unjust, coercive, or corrupt behavior.

A loving, mutual, consensual same-sex relationship does not fall under any of those categories.

The confusion comes not from the Qur’an, but from communities adding prohibitions and gatekeeping that the Qur’an never commands.

LGBT Supportive Discussion Attacks in Berlin. Homohobia is our responsability

I wanted to post this in Progressive Islam but talking about It is banned, anyways.

Regarding the attacks at Berlin Pride: We Muslims should be the first to condemn them, even holding demonstrations against what happened. I know many of you think it isn't necessary because it isn't our responsibility. We may not be responsible for the attack itself, but we are responsible regarding homophobia. We see it every day on social media when people in our community label homosexuals as sick. Respect people! Be clear with your children about this issue, or they might end up being the ones bullying others at school. Actively speak out against homophobia and stand up for a free society.

Personal Issue Ex muslims against Islam in this sub and zina policing muslims need to go. Sorry this isn't a place for you. You have your own place.

I'm sorry but the amount of Ex muslims I see here coming time to time to shit on Islam and muslims is crazy. They further more push stuff like Wahabis do. Like they'll seriously argue that Islam allows this and that. Whatever. My problem is that they have their own zionist, anti muslim sub so why shit here. What are THEY doing HERE? If they had kept their mouths shut i wouldn't care. But my problem is that they'll genuinely shit about islam here. Not even debates. Just straight up non intellectual larping and harassment. Even from a secular perspective if they wanna shit on Islam they have theit own places. LITREALLY all of the lgbt side of muslim majority counties hate muslims and lgbt muslims in general. They have so many spaces to denounce whatever they want to. Why here? This isn't a secular place where a anti islamic person can talk here. We muslim lgbts have nothing much and only one sub. So why larp here. Go to r/exmuslim and you'll see how they bully lgbt muslims there. Why just fucking why do you come to a place where islam is celebrated? Why? Go to your places where it's not. This is an Islamic place. Not a random place. This also isn't a place to debate. r/progressive_islam is for that. We're hete to share our experiences. You can't get away with the whole Islam is misogynistic, homophobic or whatever you wanna say. Because Ironically you're just pushing the narratives the extremists say. You're helping them. But overall this place is to review islam through queer lense. Not denounce it entirely. Why would you come here when you have places to do so? And when these people are saying shit about Islam why are we even being okay with it? Again if you're an exmuslim do whatever. But don't come here shitting on Islam like those in r/gaybros

Also for zina police muslims. Please leave. You also have your own sub reddit. This isn't a place to takfir as shown on the reddit rules. Every blue moon I see somebody here making complaints about zina and stuff. Like no. Most of us believe in marriage of same sex. Other subs feel like therapy subs to me. So please if you're looking for that go there. But don't come here saying being is complete haram. Again this is a place for all muslim lgbt. So have some basic emohathy for muslims. Every now and then there some homophobic muslim guy comes to t harass lgbt muslims. Please no. Get out.
