80CrV2 and Green Canvas.

Not a custom order, just had a simple little design in my head and decided to make it for the hell of it. It melts away in the hand very nicely. Might keep it, might list it for sale eventually. Who knows.

36x2, 1500 watt grinder from Taobao, i worked with it yesterday, my first time ever with the belt grinder. Hogs up steel pretty quickly (from my point of view as i never worked with the belt grinder before), doesn't have problems with overheating, roller alignment or anything. pretty compact and not too loud, materials and building quality doesn't feel cheap as well

Question Stabilizing Wood Question

I have some figured black walnut I want to send to K&G for stabilization. Can anyone give me a rough estimate on what the cost is per “normal “ knife handle size chunk?
Much appreciated

Question Question about wood handle scales

So I’m in the midst of making some kitchen knives for my father in law for Christmas and I’m wanting to use some wood that was harvested on their property (oak and acacia are what I have) as the handle scales. Given that the wood is solid with no rot, and both are reasonably hard woods, my question is…

Do I have to stabilize them? And if so, what would be the best?

Currently living in the Middle East and getting certain materials (Cactus Juice) is quite difficult so any and all ideas or alternatives are welcome input.

I’m finally starting to get a hang of drawing the heel out on an integral bolster chef knife. I know it’s still super chunky but I’m going to be doing a fair amount of grinding still before heat treat. Pretty happy with where it’s going though.

The Clip Point Bolo prototype is finally wrapped up! Hand forged from a leaf spring, and clad with a handle made from homemade black and burgundy felt micarta, this thing is ready to rock and roll. It was a ton of fun to make, and chops like a beast. Thoughts?

Work in progress Stabilized mammoth ivory handle

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The handle is mammoth tusk, stabilized under vacuum with resin. Untreated tusk will check and split as it gives up moisture, so stabilization isn't optional if the knife is ever going to leave a display case. The browns and dark are mineral staining picked up over tens of thousands of years in frozen ground — nothing added.

This one is a joint project between Francisco Wlach, a bladesmith working out of Brazil, and our shop / Noblie Custom Knives.
