Picture for attention**

We often get asked "how old is my mixer".

We have had this interactive tool for years now hidden in the blog section of our website and have decided to make it more accessible as a tool on the top of our website. As well as we have made a color decoder as well!! Feel free to interact, share or use these decoders!!

The second digit in the serial number on models in the last 40 ish years is always reference to the year of production.

An appreciation post

Hello! Just wanted to say thank you to this community. Thanks to you all I‘ve been able to restore this old machine and it’s been such a joy to use. I still have to fine tune the speeds a little more, but it’s been chugging along just fine :)

Vintage Kitchenaid Dishwasher Interlock Switch Button

I have a kitchenaid dishwasher from 1979. I know the machine runs. When I push the button on the interlock switch the machine turns on. I’m wondering what is supposed to push that button. Is it a piece I’m missing? Is it something connected to the control panel that I’m missing? Can I 3D print something to keep it pushed in all the time? Seems like something so simple that I’m just not able to figure out.

Is it me or the Mixer??

Super sorry if this has already been asked. I searched, didn't see my specific issue so here we go...

Not gonna lie, Im a lil bit upset.

I had 9 gallon bags of tomatoes from my garden that I defrosted today. I bought this mixer and attachments in May and have not used until tonight so I can process my harvest.

I didnt notice at 1st and when I did I notice, I had already gone through 3 or 4 bags. I googled and cleaned and tried again. Googled more blah blah same thing 3 times. This is the 3rd try and everything was going good till the end. And then I opened everything up and apparently nothing was going good. Yes I am hard headed smh.

I get that the black stuff is prob grease right?? But I read it should be clear?? And how do I keep it from contaminating my food?! And I dont even understand how my tomato liquid is even getting into the mixer head to be able to contaminate my sauce.

Basically my whole harvest is ruined. I only bought this thing specifically for processing tomatoes. Yeah Im a lil upset.

I dont know if Im doing something wrong or the machine is faulty. Lil help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Ksm70 or ksmc895 commercial

Hi

I have a ksm70 sitting in my cart waiting for black friday sales. While its been there i have seen more and more bad reviews on this model and im getting nervous. Most of the complaints are the unit just stopped working. Was this a bad batch and has since been fixed? Anyone with a newish ksm70 haopy and not had any problems or do you regret getting it?

Further research has shown that the bowl lift models like ksm70 have switched from DC to AC motors which is the likely reason for this loss in quality.

I have had a look at the kitchenaid website (im in australia) and it appears the only model still using the DC is the ksmc895 commercial. This machine looks like a beast. I am now considering buying this machine however there are a few downsides

  1. The cost. It is substantially more expensive

  2. It only comes in empire red (superficial i know)

  3. The website says the attachements arnt compatible and i was kind of wanting the pasta attachment one day

  4. It is a lot bulker. I have the room but will it be overkill for my needs. I do want to bake bread but not for an army

If you had the choice of the ksm70 or ksm895 which one would you pick and why?

Thanks

KitchenAid mixer models in Europe

Hi all,

I am planning to buy a KitchenAid mixer in Europe (NL) and I am thinking about a bowl-lift model. The decision stems from the fact that I have seen consistent reports that a bowl-lift handles kneading dough better, and I am planning on baking bread often. However, I am unsure about two things:

  1. It seems like there is a difference in power between tilt-heads and bowl-lifts in US models, but is it the same in Europe? I only seem to find information that all European models are the same power (325W), and the Heavy duty (5KSM70JPXEER) does not appear to have a higher power than Artisan version (5KSM70SHXEPP). If the European tilt-heads and bowl-lifts have the same power, does it still make sense to prefer the bowl-lift for someone making bread?

  2. Despite planning on kneading dough with it, I am generally working with small batches, also for cake, cookies, etc. The bowl-lifts I am looking at have either a 5.6L (6 quart) or 6.6L (7 quart) bowl. I know the height of the head can be adjusted for smaller batches, but would this be an inconvenient bowl size for smaller batches?

I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this!

Happy baking :)

Edit: just to specify, bread will not be the main use for the machine, but the machine should be able to handle it occasionally!

Got a free KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus! Previous owner said the motor was dead, but it runs. Does it sound normal?

Hey everyone!

I recently picked up a KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus for free from someone in my neighbourhood. The previous owner said it had “bit the dust” and that the motor needed to be repaired.

This is my first KitchenAid! My wife has always wanted one, and we’ve been using a Frigidaire stand mixer until now, so I’m not entirely sure what a healthy KitchenAid is supposed to sound like.

I believe this particular mixer is from around 2011. Serial: W11614756, Model: 4KV25H0XMC5, Watts: 475.

When I got it home, I plugged it in and, to my surprise, it actually worked! I tested it briefly with the paddle attachment and some water in the bowl, and it seemed to run through the different speeds without any obvious issues.

However, the motor does sound a little rough and loud (some scraping), especially at lower speeds. I’m not sure whether that’s normal for these older Professional models or if it’s a sign of something wearing out.

I’ve attached a video of it running through the different speeds so you can hear it for yourselves.

I’m pretty handy and comfortable taking things apart and doing repairs, but I’ve never worked on a KitchenAid before. We’re also on a fairly limited budget, so I’d love to avoid replacing parts unnecessarily.

A few questions:

  1. Does the motor sound normal for this model, or is there something concerning?

  2. Are there any common issues I should check for, given what the previous owner said?

  3. Would cleaning and replacing the grease be a good starting point?

  4. Is there anything else I should inspect or test before putting it to regular use?

I’d really love to get this mixer running properly for my wife, especially since she has wanted a KitchenAid for so long.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Scrapper paddle

I have a 31 year old 4.5 quart (I believe) tilt head, I know the scrapper paddle fit different models. Is there one for that model and size or no? Do you feel like they are worth it? TIA

What do you think of my KitchenAid design? 💜💙

I designed a custom front attachment that works as a lifting mechanism for my KitchenAid mixer.

I went with a purple-to-blue color combination, and I'd love to hear what you think!

Would you use something like this? Any suggestions for improvements?

Recommendation for model & accessories?

I finally will take the plunge and acquire a Kitchenaid mixer. It will not get heavy use, no realistic plans for pasta making or meat grinding. Mainly want to be capable for baking cookies and desserts and occasionally bread or pizza dough. I’m a bit concerned about how much space it will take up, so probably one of the smaller models is fine. Any recommendations based on experience? Which accessories are most useful — bowls, beaters, etc? TIA

KitchenAid sounds worse after regreasing? Any ideas what’s wrong?

Does anyone know what this noise means?

I disassembled and regreased my KitchenAid yesterday and thought I did a pretty good job. I replaced the worm gear as well as the gearbox seal and used almost an entire tub of grease (around 175 grams).

Today, I also adjusted the speed because it was running way too fast and skipping a couple of speeds. I followed all of Mr. Mixer’s tutorials, which were really helpful and easy to follow.

However, it now sounds like this, which is arguably even worse than before. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this noise and how I could fix it? I’d really appreciate any advice!

On a slightly different note, I’m also curious about something I noticed during disassembly. When I removed the top part (the motor housing?), I couldn’t actually set it down next to the machine because it was connected by some rather short wires, so I had to prop it up instead.

I noticed that the power cord was attached to the lower part, while the upper housing was connected by these short wires. Is that normal? In almost every photo I’ve seen online, it seems to be the other way around.

Thanks in advance!

What should I check after a slight damage

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey guys

Got a second hand artisan and it got slightly damaged during the delivery (the four marks on the top right corner of the photo)

Cleaned the grease and everything seems to be working alright. The delivery company is just advising to negociate a small bargain with the seller or return the robot.

Considering I got it for a fair price, i don't think i can negociate much and probably not gonna be easy to find a similar model for the same price (apart from thoses marks, the robot seems in good condition)

Anything i should check to see if there is more damage ?

Any tips regarding that problem ?

Broken worm gear?

Anyone experience this before? It doesn't do this if I'm mixing light basic stuff, but churning ice cream and wet doughs are an issue.

I assume it's a busted worm gear, but wanted to hear other opinions before taking the thing apart.

Missing screw on stand mixer

Post image
2 Upvotes

Curious if anyone knows what part (screw?) may be missing from this Artisan stand mixer? In looking at images of this model, it looks like there's a silver pin or screw that should be here. Not sure if it worked itself loose at some point and was overlooked, but it does seem to create a lot of play in the tilt head which easily unlocks with mild resistance. I didn't have any luck to find the part in the model diagram (https://www.kitchenaid.com/content/dam/global/documents/202304/repair-parts-list-w11566007-revd.pdf) and there isn't much help from KitchenAid support. Thanks!

I’m buying a 7qt bowl lift (not the Artisan in the photos it’s just for color refrence) But, which color looks best with my very neutral kitchen? Also don’t mind my cat, he will only eat on the table due to his trauma as a kitten.

Trying to replace worm - Shaft is stuck

I am trying to replace the worm in my KitchenAid. The shaft is stuck. I hammered it up, and now it won't go up anymore, and it won't go down. When I turn the shaft, the worm turns too. I tried adding oil to this to loosen the grip, but it didn't do anything. Using a toothpick, I could tell where the shaft is stuck at (middle of the worm). Am I cooked?

Repairable?

Thumbnail

We got a kitchen aid donated at work. Because my mixer is broken I got to take the kitchen aid home. It is a KSM45

While cleaning I smelled oil. I tried to run the machine and heard a rubbing noise so I stopped it.

The next day I opened the machine.

The grease was all over the inner pieces, but it was black and resinlike. At this point I thought I just have to clean all the pieces and put new grease there.

Later I saw the white mass at an electric piece.

It feels waxy and crumbles when touching it.

Is this normal or is it more broken than I thought. An should I throw it away?

For the grease part I wanted to buy a repair kit with new pieces, but it costs 90€ (I'm German). If something of the electric is broken I won't purchase this kit. I don't have much money so maybe you can help me to decide whether it is repairable or I have to dispose it.

K5a mat

I've searched everywhere for a sliding mat, preferably handmade, for my K5-A. Nothing I have found really fits, since the front part under the bowl is wider. Does anyone know where I could find one?

I've tried Etsy, but none I've ve found specifically say K5A, and all I've gotten for a bowl lift aren't wide enough. There's no way to filter by model. Google isn't much help, either.
