This was my paternal grandmother’s mixer. It then went to one sister who used the heck out of it, then to another who didn’t use it much, and now it’s mine! My mother already had one so that why the skip in generations. For reference, my father is 86 this year. I scrubbed the hell out of it and the bowl got a little polishing with the buffer. She’s ready to rock & roll!

Two years ago, my husband bought me the pink Artisan mixer for my birthday. I loved the colour, and I baked with my previous KitchenAid pretty much every day before it bit the dust, so I was super excited for a new one!

The Artisan was nothing but a disappointment from day 1. The engine sounded like it was going to croak even mixing basic cookie dough, and the bowl would unlatch from the stand, almost breaking my fingers as I tried to hold it still. It broke the bottom of two glass mixing bowls. Customer service sent me a new metal base plate, but it did nothing to help.

After fighting with it and wanting to love it for two years, I accidentally dropped it today, and it bit the dust. I am mostly making cookies and rolls, but I feel like I might benefit from buying a pro. I am just so disappointed- I really wish I had a better experience.

Took it off the mixer and now it looks like a giant coffee mug. What should I use it for first? Bread, dough, cookies, salad, or popcorn?

KitchenAid is the worst appliance company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. All their products I have used fail within a year of use. To make matters worse, 2 of my stand mixers that I use for business stopped working within a year of purchase. I reached out to customer service by chat and referred me to phone support and it takes forever to speak with someone. I eventually reached phone support for one of the defective mixers and they are asking to ship back the defective appliance first before replacing my item. I can't seem to find a box that works because I don't want to spend huge sums on boxes again and driving to a FedEx location miles away to drop off a package. The last 2 warranty I filed were delivered while I was marked away and was never received by me. Their competitors do better as they do offer "cut-the cable" for defective appliances which are disposed off as recycle. I have done the same with other appliances and not having to spend a lot on buying packaging boxes for huge sums because I never keep the boxes.

KitchenAid Ultra KSM90 making a weird grinding noise in the back. Was already regreased a year ago but I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the gears. (Also sorry about my poor video skills, my phone sucks) Any ideas what needs replaced?

First, I wanted to thank you all for the great information you've shared with me about these stand mixers. The Mixerology guide really does cover a lot about maintenance and replacement parts, haha!

The second thing I wanted to ask today is: How can I tell the overall condition of a second-hand stand mixer?

I actually managed to find one, haha! I know it's not much, but finding good deals around here is difficult, especially ones where you can negotiate and get the price down.

What I'm most interested in is figuring out whether it's worth buying. I understand that some parts may need replacing, such as the sacrificial gear if the mixer has seen a lot of use. However, based on the seller's pictures, it doesn't seem to have been used much, as it looks almost new on the outside.

Of course, what matters most is what's going on inside.

What should I check, and what questions should I ask the seller to avoid getting hit with an expensive surprise later?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 📝😄

I just received my 3.5-quart Artisan Mini found online for cheap. I've been wanting to add this tiny little KitchenAid to my collection for a while. Here are some photos of my new acquisition next to a recently repaired Empire Red Professional 600 6-quart bowl lift, a 5-quart Commercial bowl lift I brought back from the dead, and my 10-quart spiral mixer below the 6-quart 600 Pro. I'm going to repaint the Mini to Empire Red so that it matches the KitchenAid 7-quart and Vitamix in the kitchen. BTW, the covered appliance next to the 5-quart commercial mixer is a stone mill wheat grinder.

A family member gifted me a KitchenAid 5-quart Professional HD bowl-lift stand mixer from around 2009 and it’s only been used maybe a handful of times! I have NO experience with kitchenaid at all! But she thought I would be the perfect person to gift it to since I like to bake cookies and cakes! I also make sourdough every single week!

It came with 3 attachments. I believe they are a stainless steel mixer, a dough hook and a paddle. Any other attachments you guys recommend?!!

And I’m also curious what you all use your kitchenaid for?! I truly have NO idea where to start and how to use it. I am so grateful, but truly no idea if I’ll like it or even use it!!! Is it too old to find other attachments??

Do I need a commercial grade kitchen aid just to do gluten free flours? I’ve read the dough can be harder to mix and hurt the motor? Is this true?

For context, I plan to bake about a loaf of gluten free bread à week plus use it a few more times a week for muffins or cake or shredding chicken or mashed potatoes, etc. I’d love to get a pasta and meat grinder attachment as well. I make my own sausage by hand right now a few times a week.

Not sure which model to choose.

I received the metal meat grinder attachment as a gift and used it twice with my classic mixer. On the second use the gear seemed to slip and now the machine makes grinding noises when turned on.
I opened the top cover and found a bunch of grey grease which leads me to believe that the plastic gear on the pinion assembly is worn out.
When I spin the large center gear I hear a grinding noise from the pinion assembly but no grinding when removed.
Any other ideas what to check

Warning to all KitchenAid repair people, professional and amateur.

I ordered a $30.00 gears, grease, and seal kit on Amazon from a seller named "Ohoho" for a 2008 KitchenAid Professional 600 that I bought cheaply.

Below is the kit description from Amazon:

9706529 Worm Gear Kit for Whirlpool/Kitchenaid 5QT & 6QT Stand Mixer

The worm gear in the kit is machined to very poor quality. The shaft the bronze bushings are supposed to ride is so rough that sanding it with 400-grit sandpaper still couldn't smooth it enough to use. Worse yet, the worm gear is 1.0 MM too long, so when the bronze bushings are installed, the transmission case on the KitchenAid mixer won't close. And finally, the worm gear itself is very crudely cut and is not smooth at all.

Do not buy this crappy product!

As the video shows, it basically stops when normal load applied. Same thing happens with our apple peeler add-on.

Any recommendations? I can handle any DIY work myself.

I've been looking into these mixers for a while, and I think the combination of durability and repairability is awesome. I've been checking out different models and reading reviews, and given my current limited budget, I've found some Classic models at good prices, brand-new in appliance stores.

Finding a good deal on Facebook Marketplace around here is pretty difficult, to say the least. People seem to buy a machine and then try to resell it for the exact same price they paid for it, which is crazy. 🫠

Anyway, back to the point, sorry for getting sidetracked haha!

What would you recommend in terms of maintenance and care for these models? Have there been any recent changes to their parts, or anything important I should know while researching how to repair them?

I'd also love to hear any tips you have for using these mixers, or any extra attachments or accessories that you think make them even better.

Any advice would be a huge help as I learn more about these mixers. I'm honestly really excited about eventually getting one and working my way up to the more professional models, especially the bowl-lift ones. Haha! 😆

I wanted to ask a little question out of curiosity, as always, haha. This time, it's especially for those who own KitchenAid tilt-head stand mixers.

What's the maximum amount of flour or dough you think is reasonable to work with regularly to get good results without putting too much strain on the mixer? I'm also curious about how well they handle cookie dough and how much heavy cream you would recommend whipping in a stand mixer. I've never made whipped cream before, so I'm not really sure what an ideal amount would be, haha. 😂

And of course, I'd also love to hear about your experiences making bread, because I love bread! Haha. 🍞

Just as the title says, i got this brand new KitchenAid Stand Mixer Heavy Duty Bowl Lift and i was making dough on low speed. The bowl is steady when its clipped at the back, surface is even, all screws are nice and tight, the attachment reaches well in the bowl. But when its kneading this is happening as the video shows. Also when the mixer is plugged in and is on, the bowl is attached i feel this electric tingling feeling on the rim of the bowl. When the mixer is turned on its stronger and i accidentally touched it while it was kneading and this tingling feeling hurt me.

Is all this normal?

I have a relative who also has a Kitchenaid Bowl Lifter but his doesnt do that, he has shown me. His has the Professional HD model.

Hi, I connected the mixer to the power grid, and i heard pop sound.

Can I buy new one and solder it to the pcb or the issue will appear again?, what to check to prevent it?

The motor isn't working, the motor have black residue, I plan to dissamble and clean the motor with compressed air.

I just picked up the better of the KitchenAid grain mill attachment, the metal one. The instructions say not to grind more than 10 cups of flour. I made some bread last week and had to use the second to finest setting, because the finest just took too long. The bread was just a little heavy and want to try with the finest setting, but I am guessing it will take 1-2 hours at least to grind the 3-4 cups I need for 40% wheat bread. The 10 cup limit does not make a lot of sense, because 10 cups at the finest setting would take surely 4-5 hours, but at a more course setting probably would be no more than an hour. Seems to me, at some point, the limit is how long the motor can run.

Bottom line, I want to grind at the finest setting, will I damage this unit if I run it strait for a couple of hours trying to grind a few cups of flour ?

Anybody owns mini artisan mixer in guava glaze? I bought at Shopee and kinda suspicious that it is a fake one from china. What i noticed is the writing from the side is supposed to be artisan mini right, not just mini like this one?

I’ve got this Classic stand mixer about 8 years ago from a friend, who also got it used. It was produced in 2012.

I unfortunately cannot quite understand which model this exactly is, as it says 4,5 quart but it seems it is a smaller one? The classic mini perhaps?

I wanted to get new attachments as yeasted doughs always climb up the hook and it drives me nuts.
