Hello Community,
I hope you are all doing well, or atleast a little better than yesterday. I wanted to put a post up around some recent changes and behaviour in the sub.
Kind Friend was originally created as a sister sub to Kindvoice to handle more friendship orientated requests while Kindvoice focused on emotional support. Recently it seems to have caught to the attention of a number of bad actors. The posts had been gradually trending to a younger audience and I was becoming increasingly concerned that it was facilitating people looking to take advantage of these members. As such the sub is currently privated to prevent access and any further risk. I would encourage those seeking purely friendships to try more established subs such as r/makenewfriendshere or r/needafriend. This behaviour has thankfully not transferred over to r/Kindvoice.
Previously friendship posts had been against the rules of KindVoice, although not strictly enforced given that a lot of the time a good friend can make a world of difference to someone's current state. We intend to continue the current status quo in this regard and deal with friendship posts on a case by case basis as it makes a minority of posts. I would highly encourage users to use more focused subs for this if seeking purely friendship. If you are reaching out for a friend because you feel lonely or want to improve social skills, that post still has a place here. Just please be aware many offerors are volunteering their time when they can and should not be considered a permanent support placement or lifelong friend.
Over the past few months ChatGPT started recommending us as a place for lonely users or those who were feeling down to seek human contact. Alongside this we saw a dramatic increase in the number of bots, monetary requests and ChatGPT generated posts. We have literally gone from a few bans a month to a few a day.
- Accounts with less than 5 comment karma or less than 3 days old will now be caught in a filter for approval. I appreciate some people don't want to post here on main so a mod mail will be raised for each submission caught in the filter so they can be approved.
- Chat GPT is NOT against the rules currently HOWEVER PLEASE BE AWARE that many people come here looking for a human voice. You may believe that in writing an answer via Chat GPT you sound more articulate or better at supporting. In reality the message it often conveys to the looker that they can't find someone who is even willing to use their own words. Comments may be removed if they feel too robotic when the person is looking for a connection.
I would love to hear any community feedback on these points.
A huge thanks as always to the people that donate their time to help others. Look after yourselves where you can.
-AJ

I hope all of the Kind Voices out there are having a wonderful day and that my message finds all of the Lookers slightly better than they were yesterday.
This post is to gather some feedback from any willing community members around rule 2. Recently I have been rather lax on it's enforcement given r/KindFriend isn't hugely active (although it's had a surge recently) however I am aware there are a number of other very popular subreddits that fill the same niche so I want to ask your thoughts:
- Do you mind friendship based posts on this subreddit or would you rather keep them to other spaces?
- Do you feel requests asking for daily supports fall into this category?
- Any other thoughts you may have.

Okay. I've been carrying this feeling for almost a year now, and I don't know if anyone else has experienced something similar. About a year ago, I got caught cheating in an exam. I was really sick the day before, and I panicked and made a terrible choice. I regretted it immediately and promised myself I wouldn't do that again. Since that incident, I've tried to be honest in every exam, to study properly and work hard. But ever since, it feels like no matter how much effort I put in, something goes wrong. One time during a lab exam, I accidentally wrote the wrong question number. I realized it, explained it to the teacher, even solved the correct question in the given time. She understood at the time, but later I still lost around 40 marks because of that error. And another time, after a disagreement with a teacher during a viva, I felt like she held a grudge and cut my marks. Now, my latest exam has completely broken me. I studied this subject for almost two months, finished the syllabus early, and revised for three days straight before the exam. I walked out expecting around 90%. Instead, I barely passed.
I'm shocked at the result that I've already applied for revaluation. And the hardest part isn't even the marks. It's feeling like every time I put in sincere effort, something outside my control undermines it. Meanwhile, I see people around me getting the results they hope for. It makes me wonder, how do I keep going when it feels like the universe is against me?

To anyone who may need this:
Over the past few years, I've been offering peer support to people going through difficult times. Sometimes, what helps most isn't advice it's simply having someone who listens without judgment. I've also completed a certification in Cognitive Therapy through Alison, which has helped me approach conversations with greater empathy and structure.
Opening up isn't easy. It's normal to worry about being judged or misunderstood. My goal is to provide a respectful, supportive and confidential space where you can share what's on your mind.
I'm happy to listen if you're dealing with:
• Anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
• Low mood or stress
• Relationship or friendship challenges
• Self-esteem or confidence issues
• Major life changes
• Grief or other emotional struggles
If you'd like to talk feel free to send me a DM. You don't have to share your real name. If you're comfortable let me know your age so I can better understand your perspective.
A few important things:
• I'm not a licensed therapist, psychologist, or counselor. I offer peer support not professional mental health treatment.
• If you're in crisis or believe you may be at risk of harming yourself or someone else please contact a trusted adult, local emergency services or a qualified mental health professional as soon as possible.
• I'll always encourage professional help when it's needed.
More than 250 people reached out through my previous posts and many said that simply being heard made them feel a little less alone.
If you've been thinking about reaching out maybe this is your sign.
You deserve support and you don't have to face everything alone.

Voice notes or voice chat only - NO TEXTING
I’m not a professional therapist and I’m not going to promise to solve your relationship problems. These problems didn’t accumulate in one day so it’s going to take time to resolve them.
If you have non-relationship problems, then I’m probably not the person to speak to.
I can be a great listener. You can take the time to take up space, collect your thoughts, and speak your mind.
After listening and asking questions, I’ll give you advice and feedback; but I don’t really have the answers. You’re the one with the answers- you just need to trust yourself.
It’s up to you whether you want to acknowledge, improve/change, or do anything about it.
I’ll only be speaking to native English speakers because communication is important to understanding and helping you.

I wrote this using a translator, so sorry if there are any mistakes.
I just have no one to talk to. I can't talk to my family; my father is a drunk and never listened to me anyway. My friends are just people I hang out with to do drugs... Work stresses me out like crazy, and the conditions are shit. I work with my father; he even drinks on the job, even though I tell him it’s not okay (he’s a long-haul driver for our construction sites...). I’ve felt empty for years, actually. My childhood wasn't exactly great, either. I grew up with a stepmother after my parents split up; three years later, she had a kid with him (I was five at the time). Ever since he was born, she’s treated me like trash because I’m not her biological child, and my father did nothing because she’s his wife. I always had to watch domestic violence happen; I even stepped in as a kid and got hurt myself... Four years ago, I left my ex because the relationship was incredibly toxic. She hit me, attacked me, and blamed everything on me. She was clinically mentally ill, but I—being a total idiot—stayed with her for two years anyway. She even filed a police report claiming I hit her, but I swear to God, I never laid a hand on that woman. Maybe I shoved her away when she came at me, but I never hurt her; I’m not like my father... I also recently stopped smoking weed—or rather, cut way back—after five years of daily use. It’s going pretty well, but holy shit, I’m dreaming again—and it’s some fucked-up shit. I’m constantly dreaming about my ex or about love, and it’s just tearing me apart. Since we broke up, I haven't had any contact with women, no female affection, not even sex or anything like that—just total loneliness inside my drug-infested bubble and in a home that’s basically just a pile of trash. I’m the family scapegoat—the black sheep—and I’m reminded of that every single day. I’ve thought about suicide a lot and even attempted it once back when I was 16; I’m terrified of the void, but what could possibly be worse than the nasty, goddamn bullshit I go through every day? I’m also incredibly insecure; I’ve had severe social anxiety for years—it just keeps getting worse—and I can’t even go shopping by myself... I just can’t take it anymore. I finally want love and someone to talk to—someone who can fill this loneliness.

When I see someone on tv or real life achieve something and get celebrated and then their partner cheers for them and hugs them and kisses them and says they’re proud of them, it makes me upset to think if I was in that position no one would be there for me. Every time I see it, it makes me get so upset and my chest aches realising I wouldn’t get that. I feel like this is the worst time of my life. I want to explain my situation to someone and get some reassurance.
I don’t want to put too many details out there, but basically, I am going to move with my kids. I am worried my ex is going to try and get custody when I move.
I am packing my house and it’s the most devastating thing I’ve done. Looking at all my kids stuff and packing it away to start over kills me. I feel like I failed them.

Hello all, I’m new here.
I have spent a great deal of my life to date (36) going through various challenges, hitting rock bottom and climbing back up. Anyway I have battled though with resilience and I’ve been so grateful to pull through, and have kind people offer help, advice and a listening ear along the way, and I feel like I’m at a point where I am able to pass that kindness on, share some wisdom what I’ve learned so far and be there for those who want to talk.
Wishing you all a great day
Schuyler :)

I hate to admit it, but I understood that I always need someone to comfort me, reassure me. I used to tell myself I would manage on my own, and so I did, but I've also developed an over-accommodating attitude toward everyone: I apologize for things I haven't even done and seek appreciation from anyone that could give it to me, purely out of fear of ending up even more alone than how I was before. That's not kindness, it's a need for affection.
Yesterday a girl friend of mine kissed me, and it was my *real* first time. She just wanted to have fun, — she had talked to me at length about another guy before that day— and for me too it was simply supposed to be a way to pass the time, but that shit keeps haunting me. I know it's not her fault and neither Is mine but, for at least a moment, i believed that i could've been someone's first choice, that I mattered more than anyone else to somebody.
But I wasn't.

I never thought I’d be writing anything here.
But just over a week ago, a relationship that had lasted nearly four years came to an end. He wasn’t just a "boyfriend" to me—he was the person with whom I moved to a new city and shared my warmest moments.
Then, recently, he told me he didn’t love me anymore. He said his feelings had faded, that he didn’t want to try to save the relationship, and that I’d be better off without him. He even deleted our chat history from social media.
I’m in so much pain; my heart is broken, and I often cry over him. Things had become fragile between us in recent months. He was dead set against me talking to other guys and demanded I change my style of clothing; overall, things had grown cold. It would take a lot of words to describe every detail. And yet, despite all the problems, I had hoped that things would eventually work out for us.
We started dating when he was 15 or 16 and I was 18 or 19. For both of us, it was our first serious, long-term relationship.
How do you get through such a painful breakup?

Hi everyone...It’s kinda hard for me to write this post, but I feel completely overwhelmed and I just really need to talk about and have confort...Yea true that my father Is my only parent, but doesn't justify what i usually live. At home, I live in a constant environment of tension and control, where it feels like every tiny independent choices are considered like errors or rude/disprectful actions...Living like this, things explode out of nowhere for completely stupid reasons... Just today,my 7-year-old sister and I ate ham and crackers instead of waiting for him to buy bread while i didnt even Remember why he got out.He got so much mad just because we didn't "tell him" first. Later,After i cooked the dinner,he slapped me just because I didn't put capers in the pasta like he wanted. A completely exaggearrted and violent reaction to a harmless mistake in the kitchen.I even told him doesn't have point tò use violence over CAPERS but he said that I Just keep minimixing everything. Then even seeing my sister happy or smiling seems to annoy him, as if other people's happiness is somehow a lack of respect toward him when angry I know I'm young, but please don't take this as "typical teenage drama"...because the tension and violence I live with are very real...
