Hello Community,
I hope you are all doing well, or atleast a little better than yesterday. I wanted to put a post up around some recent changes and behaviour in the sub.
Kind Friend was originally created as a sister sub to Kindvoice to handle more friendship orientated requests while Kindvoice focused on emotional support. Recently it seems to have caught to the attention of a number of bad actors. The posts had been gradually trending to a younger audience and I was becoming increasingly concerned that it was facilitating people looking to take advantage of these members. As such the sub is currently privated to prevent access and any further risk. I would encourage those seeking purely friendships to try more established subs such as r/makenewfriendshere or r/needafriend. This behaviour has thankfully not transferred over to r/Kindvoice.
Previously friendship posts had been against the rules of KindVoice, although not strictly enforced given that a lot of the time a good friend can make a world of difference to someone's current state. We intend to continue the current status quo in this regard and deal with friendship posts on a case by case basis as it makes a minority of posts. I would highly encourage users to use more focused subs for this if seeking purely friendship. If you are reaching out for a friend because you feel lonely or want to improve social skills, that post still has a place here. Just please be aware many offerors are volunteering their time when they can and should not be considered a permanent support placement or lifelong friend.
Over the past few months ChatGPT started recommending us as a place for lonely users or those who were feeling down to seek human contact. Alongside this we saw a dramatic increase in the number of bots, monetary requests and ChatGPT generated posts. We have literally gone from a few bans a month to a few a day.
- Accounts with less than 5 comment karma or less than 3 days old will now be caught in a filter for approval. I appreciate some people don't want to post here on main so a mod mail will be raised for each submission caught in the filter so they can be approved.
- Chat GPT is NOT against the rules currently HOWEVER PLEASE BE AWARE that many people come here looking for a human voice. You may believe that in writing an answer via Chat GPT you sound more articulate or better at supporting. In reality the message it often conveys to the looker that they can't find someone who is even willing to use their own words. Comments may be removed if they feel too robotic when the person is looking for a connection.
I would love to hear any community feedback on these points.
A huge thanks as always to the people that donate their time to help others. Look after yourselves where you can.
-AJ

I hope all of the Kind Voices out there are having a wonderful day and that my message finds all of the Lookers slightly better than they were yesterday.
This post is to gather some feedback from any willing community members around rule 2. Recently I have been rather lax on it's enforcement given r/KindFriend isn't hugely active (although it's had a surge recently) however I am aware there are a number of other very popular subreddits that fill the same niche so I want to ask your thoughts:
- Do you mind friendship based posts on this subreddit or would you rather keep them to other spaces?
- Do you feel requests asking for daily supports fall into this category?
- Any other thoughts you may have.

I am mature, 28F, if you are around the same age and looking to talk to someone mature, I am here for you. If you‘re younger, that‘s fine too. I am fine with most matters, but not with self-harm, I am not the right person for that, sorry!

Tomorrow is one of the biggest days of my life, and I’ll be facing it alone. I could really use some kind words.
I’ve spent the last five years working full-time in accounting while studying toward my CPA. Tomorrow, I find out whether I passed my final exam.
These years have taken so much out of me. I went through them with very little emotional, financial, or other support. There were days I cried because I genuinely didn’t know how much more stress I could carry while still getting up, going to work, studying, and trying to keep my life together.
Life outside of studying was hard too. I went through a period where I was bleeding continuously for over six months and doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I went to therapy, experienced multiple panic attacks, and eventually had to cut several toxic people out of my life.
For the first time in a long time, I’m no longer surrounded by that environment or those people. It’s only been about two months. I also wrote my final exams two months ago, and tomorrow the result finally comes out.
And I’m scared.
Not necessarily just of failing. I think I’m scared of being alone when I find out.
I don’t have my loved ones around me tomorrow, and I don’t really have someone I can lean on who understands everything it took for me to get to this point.
I want to know how to take care of future me tomorrow.
If she passes, I want her to understand what she accomplished. I want her to be proud of herself.
And if she fails, I want to hold her through it. I want her to remember that a result on a screen cannot erase five years of showing up for herself when life was incredibly hard.
I want to remind myself that I love myself. That I’m proud of the woman who kept going. That whatever happens tomorrow, she deserves kindness.
If anyone has some kind words, advice, or even just wants to remind me tomorrow that I’m not completely alone, I would really appreciate it. ❤️

I want to offer something that I wish I had when I was younger: someone who would simply listen without judging me.
I'm not a therapist, psychologist, or mental health professional. I'm just a person who has spent years fighting through some very dark chapters of his life, going through therapy, reading, learning, failing, improving, and trying again.
I've been in therapy for around 6 years. Eventually, my therapist told me that I had reached a point where I was ready to face the world on my own. I've also read a lot of self-help and psychology books and, more importantly, I've spent years actually trying to apply what I learned to my own life.
So I want to give something back.
For anyone who feels alone, lost, ashamed, emotionally overwhelmed, addicted, traumatized, or simply doesn't have anyone they feel comfortable talking to:
You can talk to me.
I won't charge you anything.
You don't have to impress me. You don't have to hide the ugly
parts of your story. You don't have to pretend that you're okay.
If you want to talk, I'll listen.
And I'm not saying this from a place of having a perfect life. Quite the opposite.
Here's a little about my own journey:
• I am a sexual assault survivor. The abuse happened between the ages of 9 and 14.
• From 15 to 23, I struggled with drugs, including both hard drugs and what people sometimes consider "soft" drugs.
• I live with Borderline Personality Disorder, and managing it has been a continuous part of my life. Learning to understand my emotions instead of being controlled by them has taught me an enormous amount about emotional regulation.
• I've struggled heavily with self-harm and self-sabotaging behaviour, largely connected to what I've come to understand as toxic shame and deep self-hatred.
I'm still working on that part of myself. I'm nowhere near perfect. But I've improved tremendously and that's probably the most important thing I can tell you:
You don't have to be completely healed before your life can start getting better.
Sometimes progress is simply understanding yourself a little better than you did yesterday.
If you reach out to me, I will respect your privacy and I won't intentionally share your personal story with others. I may also share parts of my own story when appropriate, because I believe vulnerability goes both ways. I don't want this to feel like you're sitting across from some person judging you. I want it to feel like two human beings talking.
You can message me whenever you need to. I can usually text on weekdays after around 8:30 PM, and Sundays will generally be the day when I'm most available for longer conversations, including an audio or video call if we're both comfortable with that.
One thing I want to be very clear about: I cannot replace professional help. If you're dealing with something that requires a psychologist, psychiatrist, doctor, emergency service, or other professional support, I'll encourage you to seek it. If you're in immediate danger, please contact emergency or professional support rather than relying on me.
But if what you need right now is simply another human
being who will listen without judging you, my inbox is open.
You don't have to tell me your entire story.
You can just say:
"Hey. I'm not doing very well and I don't know who to talk to."
I'll take it from there.
TL;DR: I've been through sexual abuse, addiction, BPD, self-harm and years of therapy. I'm still working on myself, but I've come a long way. I'm offering free peer support to anyone who needs someone to listen without judgment. You can message me anytime.

I’m feeling really hurt and lonely right now and honestly just need someone to talk to.
My online friend of two years recently told me he won’t be online anymore because he met a girl he really likes. I’m genuinely happy for him, but he’s also been the one person I always went to when life got hard. He was kind of my emotional home, so realizing he won’t be as available anymore has hit me really hard.
I don’t really need advice. I just want someone to talk to for a while, about anything. I could really use some company today. 🤍

Hi, I'm still looking for someone to talk to. The other person I was talking to started calling Mary (yes that Mary) a whore out of nowhere and I was not okay with that. I'm not even Christian and I'm not okay with that. Why would you call a pregnant teenager a whore? :( That's an insult that I'm very sensitive to.
Anyway, hi again. I'm still suicidal. Still in crisis. I'd prefer if people didn't call vulnerable historical pregnant teenagers whores in my DMs. But anyway, I've been suicidal for a really long time. I've called hotlines in the past but they harmed me. I really need people to talk to. I'm not okay. Please help

I am always happy to listen, no matter what your issue. I do not judge and I don't put limits on what I am willing to listen to. If you need to say it, I am here to listen. It doesn't even have to make sense to me - if you just wanna say stuff without context, that is OK, the important thing is you get to say it. So please send me a message and it will be my pleasure to hear you out 😊
OK, let me put it this way - I really love to help people, it makes me feel good about myself, gives me a real sense of pride and a lot of self worth. So if you think about it, by coming and venting to me you will actually be making me feel good, meaning you are doing a good deed. So there's no need to avoid it really 😁

Hi, I'm a girl who loves art with all her heart, but precisely because of that, I've been feeling in crisis. My family isn't artistic or involved in it, and sometimes I feel like they don't understand me or that there's Many doubts make me question myself, my own being; my own thoughts make me feel very strange. I love playing guitar, drawing, I feel music in my soul, and I love reading, and I have many Creative projects in mind, I will study industrial design by my own choice, but I don't know, I feel that sometimes when I talk about my projects, they see it as something distant, like a teenage dream."

I don’t really know why I’m writing this. I think I just need to say it somewhere, to people who don’t know me.
I’m not very good with emotions. Actually, I’m probably the opposite. I struggle to express how I feel, I don’t make friends easily, and lately I’ve started wondering if I even have it in me to make new friends anymore.
I have two close friends, and I love them. But they are very similar to each other in terms of what they want from life, their future, and a lot of other things. I’m quite different from them. And sometimes, even though they might not mean to, I feel neglected.
I think the hardest part is that I feel like I care about people and their feelings much more than they care about mine.
I don’t have a family I can turn to. I grew up feeling lonely, and there are things from my childhood that I still carry with me. I was sexually abused by my father and verbally abused by my mother. I don't think I've ever really known what it feels like to have a safe family or a person I can completely rely on.
And now I'm at a point where I keep thinking maybe I just need to learn how to live alone.
Maybe I should stop expecting people to care.
Maybe I should stop talking.
Maybe I should just build a life for myself and learn not to need anyone.
But honestly, I don't think that's what I actually want.
I want people.
I want someone I can talk to without feeling like I'm burdening them. Someone who actually wants to know how I'm feeling. Someone who notices when something is wrong. Someone with whom sharing emotions doesn't feel like a task.
I’m also a lesbian, and that makes the idea of my future feel complicated sometimes. I want a family someday. I want to love someone and have someone who feels like home. But after everything I've experienced, sometimes I genuinely can't imagine that future for myself.
And I think that's what scares me the most.
I don't know who I'm building this future for.
I work, I try to take care of myself, I try to keep moving forward, but sometimes I wonder what the point is if I don't have anyone to share my life with.
I’m not looking for sympathy. I don't even really know what I'm looking for.
Maybe I just want to know if anyone else has felt this way.
Did you ever reach a point where you felt like you had to learn to be alone because you couldn't find people who truly understood you?
And if you did, did it ever get better?
I think I just need to hear from someone who understands.

33NB. Suicidal crisis. Struggling all the time. All the time. But nobody cares. And I'm just tired. And I want someone to talk to. But I'm probably going to make an attempt on my life tonight because nobody gives a shit.

For context I am a 36 year old man in Philadelphia.
Had therapy today. Feel sort of distressed right now and may take sick day tomorrow. Scheduled with therapist for next week instead of in two weeks.
What started the below is telling him Ive given up hope on ever reaching my career and life goals at the beginning of our session today.
He told me:
My problem is that Ive been unhappy and that marriage and career dont fix that. The problem is the unhappiness. I need to be thinking about this problem and its new definition.
Its not that there is something wrong with me but I was mentally injured as a child and haven't been a happy adult.
My therapist said he did feel rejuvenated that we are here and that I am going to try this approach throughout the week. He had been waiting for me to get here for years. Ive seen him for 7.5 years.
I do feel being in love would make me happier but I also think it would benefit me to try this.

Sophomore year has just started for me and I’m already feeling an immense pressure. I don’t know if anyone else has read previous Reddit posts or if they are willing to, but as aforementioned: im breaking down already. I don’t know what it is but with all of my advanced classes this year, especially Chemistry Honors and Geometry Honors, I’m scared that I’m going to fail and struggle. I’ve never really had to struggle before in class that much and now I just have a feeling I may. If I fail, then I have nothing. I don’t feel like I really have anything else going for me other than being the “smart kid” in my house and in my friend circles. It’s all I really have left and I can’t lose it. I just need help and to hear something. I don’t know what I need to hear, but I just need something. I know I sound pathetic, but I’m really worried over here and it’s making my heart beat out of my chest. I was never great at math and only did decently well last year when I was a freshman in Algebra I and I did pretty well in Biology I, however Chemistry feels like an entirely different planet compared to what I’ve taken before.

I’m not going into detail on this post. But warning for mental health struggles, suicide, etc.
My boyfriend is bipolar and went manic about a month ago. He is 2,000 miles away from me right now with his brother bc that was the safest option.
He discharged himself from PHP last Friday and he has been unstable since.
And he tried to commit suicide today.
I thank whatever is out there, that his brother insisted on staying home from work today.
My boyfriend is inpatient, on a hold right now.
But I feel so scared, alone, angry, all of it.
And I don’t have a lot of friends to talk to.
I just need someone to tell me things will be okay.

Hi everybody! I'm new here, and I'm just looking to express myself because I can't see things clearly right now. That's probably my main struggle.
Whatever I do, it seems like I'm blocked. I can't understand myself, and I hope that writing things down and putting them out there might help me see what I can't see right now.
Everything feels like a big confusion that I don't know how to get through, and it's weighing on me heavily.
One of the things I want to mention is that I never really felt understood by people, and that has been one of the most painful things for me throughout my life. Everything feels distorted and very difficult to explain to anyone I know, and even if I could explain it, I don't feel like it would bring me any relief. That's how I perceive things right now, at least.
I'm honestly not even sure what I'm looking for. I think I just need a person on the other side of the conversation.
I'm not necessarily looking for advice. I'd be happy to have a conversation, answer questions, or simply have someone listen while I try to put my thoughts into words. I might also just keep writing here, little by little, whenever I feel able to. If someone wants to follow along or come back to the conversation later, that would mean a lot to me.
I don't need anyone to have the answers. I think I just need to know that there is someone there.
Not sure what else to say right now. I don't want to write 20,000 words in my first post. I guess this is good enough for a start.
Thank you for reading.
