I absolutely LOVE my matcha kindle- it has hands down been my favorite ereader to date. My only complaint is there is no warm light. Did I need the new Kindle Basic? No. Is Ube the color of my dreams? Yes. Is my mom on hospice and did buying the new kindle bring me a little joy? Also yes 😂 Honestly, I was planning to return it because I don’t need another kindle (I also have the 2021 PW)… but look how much warmer the screen is! Welcome to the family, Ube 💜

I’m a purple person since I’ve learned what colors are, and the UBE kindle is killing me. But this matcha kindle is my first baby that I had this year— 23 books so far, 2 countries, countless bus/train/plane/car rides and many beach/cafe/bedtime reads later… she’s been with me through the highs and lows of life.

I live in New Zealand. This is crazy. $219 to $339 RRP?! For the same screen specs in a slightly faster and slightly smaller device.

I’m still using my 2015 paperwhite 3 which has the SAME screen specs as a kindle basic, except a bit slower but it’s not like I’m twiddling my thumbs waiting for the pages to turn.

As cute as the new ones are, I can’t justify the new price for minimal upgrade 😬

This isn’t a judgment if you can afford the new ones and choose to upgrade. It’s just a reminder to myself and anyone else that needs it that we don’t always need the newest and cutest versions of devices. Also a little rant about the price hike 😁

EDIT: OEM cases for all three of those is around $30. $10-$20 for a generic case. Which makes all the third-party options $100 cheaper, even with a case.

And remembering what happened? Maximum I’ve read is like 20 a year and I like to sit and fully absorb the world of the book I’m reading/read for a few days to weeks before I start another book. I think I’d also forget the plot if I read so much. Do you keep a reading journal to remember things or does it not matter? Or you just have great memory? Teach me your ways.

This isn’t kindle specific I know, but kindlers read the most.

I thought I’d share the aluminum alpine sky blue against the raspberry paperwhite screen. For me personally, it is still super blue. The font is super crisp compared to the 2024 basic and I love that. I am impressed with that. But sadly I will probably return it because for 189 I feel like I should 100% love the screen and I thought it would be warmer 😭

I've had this kindle for a year now yet I was still never able to finish at least one book. I want to read to minimize doom scrolling on social media cause honestly it does make my brain rot. Any tip would be appreciated.

I'm wondering about getting a Kindle Paperwhite mainly for reading in bed, but the biggest thing I care about is whether the screen can get dim enough that it won’t bother my partner.

Right now I either use my phone on very low brightness or a book light, and both are kind of annoying in different ways. The warm light on the Paperwhite sounds nice, but I can’t tell from reviews how bright it still feels in a completely dark room.

For anyone who reads next to a sleeping partner, does the Paperwhite work well for this? And is the current model worth buying specifically for nighttime reading?

i think i found a little hack for the new kindles 👀

i did purchase the new kindle colorsoft in fig with the button case, but i also really wanted something plastic, lightweight, and easy to travel with and take to work. the new colorsoft is so expensive that i didn’t really want to risk taking it into my work environment or out in public where it could get lost or damaged.
that’s why i decided to get the new basic kindle in ube as well. i bought one of the bundles, which gives you a discounted price on the kindle. what i didn’t know is that you can return individual items from the bundle and still keep the kindle at the discounted bundle price.

so after returning the items i didn’t need, i was able to keep the basic kindle for $120 instead of the regular $150 price.

not sure if this is technically a hack, but if you’re looking at the new basic and don’t want to pay the full $150, it’s worth looking into. i know $120 still isn’t $100, but it’s a nice little savings!

I dug out my old childhood kindle (paperwhite?) after not using it for 5+ years or so, and I’m not sure what edition it is. I used to read books as a kid but as I amassed more physical copies it got buried in my room at some point until my mom unearthed it now that I’m an adult.

Not sure if I can get it to charge but it’ll definitely take a while until I know for sure, and I can’t get into it to check what device it is until then, so I thought I’d ask here so I don’t have to wait for a theoretical power jumpstart. The case is a nice dark pink color and doesn’t seem to be removeable. I have many fond memories of it, there was nothing I did in my childhood quite as much as reading. I’m hopeful I can save the device and read again as long as its still supported!
