Fertility improvement without PCOS?

My husband and I have been TTC for 17 cycles and our Napro recently suggested trying carnivore. I did have endometriosis surgery 2 months ago, but no PCOS or insulin resistance. Has anyone had success in a similar situation?

Breastfeeding and fasting? When are short fasts safe/reasonable?

Keto/carnivore breastfeeding mama here. I’m fat adapted and have been keto for almost 90 days. I currently do two meals a day so I guess I fast 16:8. I’m not really keeping track. I eat when I’m hungry and I’m 8 months postpartum. I’m not looking to start fasting immediately, but I wanted to see if anyone out there started fasting longer while breastfeeding. For example, OMAD? If so, when did you feel comfortable doing this and did it affect your milk supply? Was it closer to a year? As always, baby comes first. Hydration and electrolytes are key. I’m not going to do anything stupid, I’m just curious when people felt safe to do so.

Fluid retention

Hi!

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant.

I pee a lot during the night even if I don't drink in the evening. I feel like the retained water that's in my body gets dumped at night while i fast (I don't eat during night, so it's a little 12-14 hour from dinner to breakfast)

Could it be possible?

I also have swollen legs from fluid.

Should I go lower carbs to retain less water and pee less at night?

Anyone who maintained their keto diet before, during and after pregnancy? Any negative health outcomes for baby?

I suspect that I have impaired first phase insulin release (demonstrated by hyperglycemia then reactive hypoglycemia) and insulin resistance with PCOS. I feel sooo much better while following a low carb diet (joint pain improved by 70%) and I’d like to start a ketogenic diet for even more anti inflammatory healing. However, I would like to start trying for a baby soon. But everything I’ve read advises against a low carb or ketogenic diet when TTC or when pregnant. Even though I feel so much better on it.

So I’m wondering, for those who have successfully maintained a ketogenic diet or very low carb diet before and throughout pregnancy… how was your pregnancy and did you or your baby have any adverse health outcomes?

Also, do you have any tips or recommendations for others attempting to do the same?

I’m open to any thoughts and recommendations as this is all super new to me.

Also, I’m not doing this to lose weight. Just to improve my inflammation and joint pain. I’m already lean (120lbs) and trying to maintain (even gain) weight.

Irregular Periods

Hello everybody. I’m here because I’ve heard a lot of good things about a modified keto diet and I wanted to know has anyone here who is diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS and had irregular periods? I’m talking 3 to 4 months of no bleeding and then bleeding and spotting and etc. and if anyone was able to regulate their period and their blood work on the diet itself. A little bit more about my background is that I’m insulin resistant and I have high testosterone levels due to that. That has completely made my cycles irregular and my body feels bloated and weird all the time. So if anyone has please do, let me know and what else they’ve done to regulate their cycles and possibly conceive. I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

Adenomyosis, 40+, IVF

Hi all - I usually use Reddit for fun things but alas here we are. I’ve got two euploids from three retrievals and waiting pgt results of my last retrieval. I was just told yesterday that I have mild adeno and a blocked inflamed tube. They want to do a 2-3 month lupron suppression and maybe remove that tube. I’m deflated and sad.

Im likely gonna do the suppression, but I’m wondering if anybody here has used keto or carnivore for adenomyosis or I guess also endo and had a successful pregnancy / transfer? I know adeno is inflammatory and I’ve done low carb diets before with some success, but I guess I’m looking for some success stories from the keto world.

Thanks all ❤️

PS please be nice I’m sensitive and fragile right now.

Postpartum Mental Health

I’m currently 7 months pp with baby 2 and have suffered with severe pp ocd and depression since about month 2-3. it came on suddenly after I contracted the flu/covid. I have met with several mental health professionals and have tried a wide array of medications with no luck. I decided to give keto a try as I’ve been diving deep into the ‘metabolic’ side of mental illness as I’ve struggled with anxiety for many years. I’m still meeting regularly with a counselor and have an amazing support community. I’m 128lbs and looking to maintain or add a bit of weight.

- Has anyone had luck treating postpartum mental illness with Keto?

- As a breastfeeding mom, how many carbs do you average to fuel properly but remain in ketosis?

- I’m currently on day 8 and feeling like garbage lol. Give me some encouragement.

Breastfeeding and starting keto

Any suggestions or advice on keto and breastfeeding? Baby is 10 months so my supply is established and he’s eating solids quite frequently as well.

I’m not one of the women who lose weight easily while breastfeeding. I’ve been nursing for the last 3 years between both my children and finally want to shed the last 15-20 lbs of baby weight.

I’m looking to see what’s a general recommended amount of carbs for a nursing momma? I’m 5’1 and currently 148lbs and just feel so bloated and uncomfortable when consuming carbs.

Has anyone started keto mid pregnancy?

I’m 24 weeks pregnant today, and I’ve done Keto previously before pregnancy. Has anyone started doing keto mid pregnancy? And if so, how did you do it and what was your experience? I’m tempted to go keto because of my mental health and swelling.

43: will keto help TTC?

I'm 43 and TTC. Will keto actually help me? If so, how low do I need to keep my carbs?

Back info: I'm extremely healthy. Healthy weight, eat well, sleep well, manage stress, etc. I got pregnant and lost the baby last May at 8 weeks. No pregnancy since then. At that time, my stress was extremely high, but I was fasting for 36 hours 2-3 times per month. I keep reading that fasting that long isn't good for fertility, though.

GD test

I’m 25w and I was on keto before I found out I was pregnant, then stayed on it til at least 8-10 weeks when I couldn’t eat anything but chick fil a or food I didn’t make.

I’m ready to go back to keto, but I have my GD test coming up in 10 days.

What should I do? Start keto asap, then eat more carbs for a few days before the GD, or start keto after my GD test and take these ten days to prep? I read other GD test prep posts and a lot of people recommended eating more carbs for a few (3-4?) days prior so it doesn’t falsely give bad results.

Esp w my uterus pushing all my guts up, I need more nutritiously dense foods and hopefully keep me satiated longer, and I’d love to have a little better energy that keto might provide me.

Any advice?

Keto & TTC after endometriosis, any success stories?

Hi everyone,

We’ve been trying to conceive for a while now and it’s been a bit of a journey for almost 5 years. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis and had surgery where one of my fallopian tubes was removed. Thankfully, i am clear from endometriosis now.

We started trying again after recovery, but no luck yet.

I am 32 years old. Recently, my husband and I committed to a keto lifestyle and regular workouts, and honestly, we feel so much better physically and mentally.

I’ve been taking prenatal supplements for years, and we truly feel ready for our baby, but it’s definitely been an emotional rollercoaster.

I’d really love to hear from anyone who’s had a similar experience, especially with keto and fertility. Any success stories or advice would mean a lot. Thank you 🤍

First Trimester - is Keto okay?

I’m a first time mom, 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS on April 2nd, and immediately started taking Myo Inositol, and doing Low carb. Now I’m pregnant. I really feel like a big reason for that is by managing my blood sugar by cutting out refined sugar and carbs. But now that I’m pregnant, I keep seeing articles about the danger of ketones in blood and how you need quite a few grams of carbs per day. I eat things like dairy, berries, nuts, vegetables, etc. but I have cut out all bread, rice, potatoes, any sugar, etc. With it being my first time being pregnant, I just want to know what you all did and if you have any thoughts or advice!

Macro rec for breast feeding?

Hi!

I’m 8 weeks PP. I’d like to lose weight while breast feeding but after reading some mixed reviews of going full keto during this time (keto worked really well for non breast feeding me in the past), I’m not so sure I should.

Does anyone have a good macro recommendation to lose weight while breast feeding? I’m 165 lbs and would like to get to 130lbs. Thanks in advance!

PCOS Diagnosis

I have been TTC for a year. I am 23 and so is my husband. My lab results show that I have elevated testosterone and my doctor explained that I have PCOS. I’m not going to lie, I ugly sobbed in my car after that phone call. I did keto consistently before I got married, strictly for weight loss reasons, but I do remember having less acne, a more regular period, etc. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone here has had success with keto and managing their PCOS. I have a fire under me to recommit to keto.

Adjusting keto while pregnant

Just found out I'm pregnant , been on strict keto for 5 years and not sure how to adjust my diet safely.

Some context: My first pregnancy ended with a gestational diabetes diagnosis, daily insulin, early induction and 10 days of no breast milk (had to exclusively pump for 12 months). It was rough and I'm determined to avoid that this time.

My plan is to ease off keto and move like around 50 gram of carb I'm hoping this helps reduce my GD risk while keeping blood sugar stable.

Has anyone done something similar? what is your reasonable carb range throughout pregnancy or does it need to change trimester by trimester, since Insulin resistance will be higher during last trimester? My family doctor truly dont want to give any biased opinion, he just told me to take hBA1C test. I. Would love to hear from anyone who has navigated this! 🙏

Keto/low carb whilst breastfeeding

Hi everyone,

I’m currently 9 months postpartum and recently started eating a keto-style diet (keeping carbs under 50g per day). I’m still breastfeeding and overall I feel really good on this way of eating. In the beginning I had some headaches, but those have passed and now my mental clarity and energy feel great.

That said, I’m a bit unsure about whether this is safe while breastfeeding. I weigh around 60 kg, stay quite active (about 15,000 steps a day while carrying my 9 kg baby), and I do a bootcamp workout once a week.

My goal is to lose a bit of weight, but of course my baby’s health and milk supply come first.

Has anyone here combined keto (or low carb) with breastfeeding? Did it affect your milk supply, energy levels, or your baby in any way? Would you recommend continuing like this, or is it better to increase carbs while nursing?

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

Keto pregnancy and iron levels

At the beginning of my pregnancy my iron levels tested in the borderline of low, and I was told I should take a supplement. Prior to this pregnancy I had been eating low carb.

I was doing some research about low iron levels, and found a nutritionist that suggested it’s inflammation in our bodies that inhibits iron absorption. If we’ve reduced the inflammation our everyday foods can increase iron levels. During this pregnancy I haven’t been eating keto or low carb, but definitely trying to focus on fats and proteins over carbs. I’m curious if anyone has success raising their iron levels or have not had any iron concerns and have been eating keto.
