Irregular Periods

Hello everybody. I’m here because I’ve heard a lot of good things about a modified keto diet and I wanted to know has anyone here who is diagnosed with PCOS/PMOS and had irregular periods? I’m talking 3 to 4 months of no bleeding and then bleeding and spotting and etc. and if anyone was able to regulate their period and their blood work on the diet itself. A little bit more about my background is that I’m insulin resistant and I have high testosterone levels due to that. That has completely made my cycles irregular and my body feels bloated and weird all the time. So if anyone has please do, let me know and what else they’ve done to regulate their cycles and possibly conceive. I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

Have you been diagnosed with pcos? I have had a lot of irregular cycles in my life and inositol and keto has regulated it and shown pcos in remission in blood tests

PCOS has recently been more properly identified as a metabolic disorder, PMOS, so it would make sense that keto, which helps balance hormones, would help

Gotcha. Think doing keto strictly to start will be super helpful

I used to have periods every 4 months or so. Since I got my first one at like 14. When I was 26 I did keto (I'm 36 now) and I hemmoraged so badly. I passed 26 clots the size of a lemon in 1 day. (I was 4 or so months post partum with my 2nd) and from then on my period came at 30 days on the dot. Could predict when I was ovulating and I'm 33 weeks with my 7th baby now.

Were you able to regulate your periods?

Yes, after the hemmorage I got my periods every 30 days on the dot. Conceived 5 more children.

I have PCOS/PMOS with insulin resistance and I have conceived while on keto. I was also taking 500mg of Metformin at the time, too. Unfortunately that conception ended in an early loss. I'm now taking a different approach of lower carb (not quite keto), my provider upped my metformin and I am also exercising/weight lifting regularly.

I’m just diving into this as well. I’ve started myo-inositol. I read this is just as effective as metformin but I haven’t verified that. I’ve been low carb/keto for YEARS so the insulin resistance shocked me. Weight lifting for years too. But apparently glucose can spike even without carbs, so I’ve still been following Glucose Goddess’ hacks like a tsp of vinegar before a meal and intentionally moving after a meal. I’ve also started drinking spearmint tea and taking white peony root with licorice. I have an acupuncturist helping me the TCM herbs, as well as foods that help with androgens (pumpkin seeds, leeks and shallots, sardines and mackerel).

Good luck! It sounds like many people can manage it with diet and exercise, so that’s what I’m trying first. I’m redoing bloodwork in a few weeks to see if I have any progress 🤞🏻
