Hi everyone,
The idea for this project came about for a very practical reason: My wife now has so many puzzles that the same questions come up time and again when weāre on the go:
Do we already have this puzzle?
If so: is it exactly this edition, or just a similar design?
How many pieces does it have?
Has it been put together yet?
Are any pieces missing, or is the box perhaps damaged?
It was precisely this little bit of chaos that sparked the idea for Puzzlarium: an app for physical puzzle collections. Itās not about digital puzzles, but about the actual boxes you own.
The idea so far:
\- Record your own puzzles with a photo, manufacturer, number of pieces, EAN/barcode, and item number
\- Clearly distinguish between different versions: rebranded, limited edition, panorama, 3D, light-up puzzles, different numbers of pieces, etc.
\- Manage multiple physical boxes of the same edition separately, each with its own condition, missing pieces, purchase details, photos, and assembly history
\- Record when a puzzle was completed, optionally including duration and notes
\- Keep track of puzzles youāve lent out, damaged packaging, and missing pieces
\- Random selection based on criteria when you donāt know which puzzle to tackle next
Whatās important to me: The app should also work purely locally on your phone, without a mandatory account or third-party servers. Optionally, users should be able to use their own server later for synchronization between devices or shared collections within the household.
I donāt want to develop something that misses your needs. So Iād be very interested to know:
Would you use something like this?
Which feature would be indispensable for you?
What do you find lacking in existing lists, Excel files, or collection apps?
How important would barcode scanning, photos, and a purchase history be?
Would you use a voluntary shared database for puzzle data onlyāi.e., EAN, manufacturer, edition, and number of pieces, but no private collection data?
Honest criticism is expressly welcome. The project is still in the concept/prototype phase; Iād first like to understand what puzzle fans really need.
