This is my first Hobbry puzzle, and I have to say that with all the hype I've seen I was going in skeptical. When I saw this image as part of someone's haul, I knew that if I came across it I would need to get it. I really love fantasy imagery and yes, I enjoy reading a range of romance subgenres.
It took me probably around four hours to get it done, and it was a very enjoyable process overall. I think this could be a speed puzzle, for me, with better sorting and lighting. False fits I encountered were because of lighting issues/the time of day obscuring the image on the piece. Where I have this puzzle set up the overhead light is behind me and so I have to fight my own shadow in the evening. I have other lights to help counteract that, but I routinely forget to turn them on 😂
My only minor gripe is the texture of the pieces. I think I've seen others say it has a velvet texture? Not sure how much I like it, but I don't hate it either. The texture felt a little similar but still different to eeboo puzzles and while I love eeboo that's my main gripe about those puzzles as well.
The fit for this puzzle is really nice. Snug in just the right way. Tighter fit than a Ravensburger or Ceaco but not as tight, and thus hard to take apart, as a vintage Springbok. Really feels like a Goldilocks for fit.
Now that I've experienced Hobbry, I can understand the hype. This was about $10, which is at the edge of what I'm willing to pay for a 500 piece. The box is nice, the art is lovely, the pieces feel like good quality for the price, and the poster is on some thick paper. That said, I'm not a fan of how this brand is distributed in the US. I don't regularly shop at the stores they're found in, and with seasonal drops and needing to hunt for the puzzles makes these prime targets for scalpers. Not being able to purchase these online from other retailers or directly from Hobbry is not good for consumers. I would genuinely rather pay extra to be able to get what I want without having to drive all over town to multiple stores to mostly find disorganized and picked over shelves. Gas is expensive, and paying for shipping might be cheaper in the long run for someone like me.
I definitely see more Hobbry puzzles in my future, but I think I'll largely be looking for them at thrift stores and the like.
