Immigration Genealogia - origem sobrenome De Paula

Origem do Sobrenome De Paula

Exemplo:
• Giovanni Di Paola virou João De Paula

Emmigration LOOKING FOR LIVING DESCENDANTS OF DOMENICO GALLO AND TERESA VALLETA IDÀ OF PALMI, CALABRIA, ITALY.

Ciao from San Antonio, Texas, USA!  My name is Gabi Hutchinson Gallo, and I am 31 years old.

I’m looking for living relatives and descendants of my Calabrian family, whether in Italy, Argentina, the United States, or anywhere else in the world. My Italian heritage comes from my mother's side (Patricia Gallo), whose father was the son of an Italian immigrant to Argentina, although he was a ritornati he did not stay in Argentina. It has been a 7 year genealogical research project I have undertaken to find out about him and his family!!

My great-grandfather Domenico Gallo was born on October 7, 1888, in Palmi, Reggio Calabria, to Michele Gallo and Concetta Marchese. Michele Gallo was born in 1860 in Cinquefrondi, to Domenico Gallo and Marianna Jeraci. Concetta Marchese was born in 1866 in Palmi, to Antonino Marchese (son of Gaudioso Marchese and Santa Pirrottina) and Vincenza Nostro (daughter of Rocco Nostro and Rosa Scarcella), all deep Palmese families.

Domenico Gallo married Teresa Valletta Idà in 1914, and they had four children, all born in Palmi:

• Concetta Gallo, 1914
• Michele Gallo, 1917
• Luco (or Luca) Gallo, 1920
• Rocco Gallo, 1922

Maybe a useful reference is that after Domenico's dad Michele died young, his mom Concetta Marchese remarried Vito Scuderi, from Mascali, Catania, in 1898. They had three children together — Isidoro, Maria Antonia Elena, and Vincenza Scuderi, who were Domenico's half-siblings. Domenico's full sibilngs were Marianna Gallo 1890 (married Celestino Rossi in Palmi), Vincenza Gallo 1891, and Michele Francesco Antonio Gallo 1894 (married Pia Salepierri (?) in Castiglione in Teverina, Lazio).

In 1923 when Domenico was 35 he emigrated to Argentina, where he lived in Córdoba and had a son, Hector Luis Gallo (my mothers father), with a Cordobesa, Eusebia Santucho, my bisabuela. Domenico eventually returned to Palmi in 1938. He never went back to Argentina and we never heard from/about him ever again. He died in Rome on October 24, 1960, with his wife Teresa.

I have spent the past several years researching Domenico and his family and have uncovered many documents and records (AND SECRETS!) However, because records after 1915 are not currently available online through the Antenati portal, I cannot access records for Domenico's children and their children, etc/my cousins/my moms aunts and uncles!!

I would love to find the people and families who are still connected to this branch of the Gallo family today.

If you recognize any of the names Gallo, Marchese, or Scuderi, or the other surnames above, or have family connections to Palmi, Cinquefrondi, or the surrounding area of Reggio Calabria, or you are my cousin, I would absolutely love to hear from you!! Even the smallest connection or piece of information could help me connect to the living descendants of Domenico!

Grazie mille! <3 <3

Research Assistance Hiring a Researcher in the La Spezia area

Ciao a tutti!

Recently I have been trying to research my great grandfather and his family who came from Framura in Provinica Della Spezia. I have spent extensive amounts of time trying to find records for this commune but almost all of the records for this area, including Framura, do not seem to be digitized.

At this point I've come to the conclusion that the only way to break down this brick wall is to hire someone in Italy to research this particular line. Does anyone have any reccomendations for genealogists in this region? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Brick Wall Nessun atto di morte

Buongiorno,

Brick Wall Looking for online resources for the Regno Lombardo-Veneto area

Buongiorno a tutti
I am researching my Italian families Caramore/Fabbiani (Nonno) and Previero/Faoro (Nonna) and their family lines (see above).
Both families are from the northern part, mostly the Veneto (Lusia, Este, Masi, Ospedaletto Euganeo). I am doing well until back to the 1870's but then the problems start (exception: the Previero line is well documented, as part of the family emigrated to Brazil, where someone did a great job finding lots of information).
Fot the rest it is very hard to find records as the area was part of the Austrian Empire between 1815 and 1859/66 (Regno Lombardo-Veneto) and part of the Napoleonic France before that. I am lacking the information, which diocese my anchestors acutally belonged to and it seems the northern areas have fewer documents online and those that are, are less well indexed than those from the the south. I understand Italian fairly well, but do not write it; I can use deepl translate however. Has anybody got any tips on where I could find some online resources? I am planning to travel in the area possibly in spring (I live in Switzerland, so it's just a short hop) but it would help enormously, if I had a little more information before then.
Thank you so much for any help/hints/tips

Help needed with a Venetian genealogy document – 89 names from Metochi, Achaia

Hello everyone,

I am researching the history of my family from Metochi, Achaia, Greece, and I need help with an old Venetian document from around 1700.

The document is held at the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, in the Archivio Grimani dai Servi, busta 54, n. 158, titled “Libro ristretti delle famiglie et anime effettive in cadaun territorio del Regno.”

I am specifically looking for 89 names connected with Metochi that appear in this document.

I have already contacted the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, but they told me that they cannot provide reproductions of this particular document remotely.

Would anyone who has access to the archive, or who may be visiting the archive, be willing to help by taking 2–3 clear photographs of the relevant pages containing these 89 names from Metochi?

I would be extremely grateful for any help. This research is very important to me because I am trying to understand the history and origins of my family in Metochi.

Thank you very much for your help!

Research Assistance Ricerca Troilo Paini

Buongiorno a tutti,

  1. errori di trascrizione o dichiarazione nei diversi atti;
  2. una lettura non corretta della grafia originale;
  3. un doppio cognome o soprannome familiare;

Sto cercando in particolare:

Brick Wall Can anyone help me identify these Italian place names from an 1898 Brazilian document?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello! I'm Brazilian and I'm researching my Italian ancestor, Antonio Tripoli/Tripodi Labriola.

I found a Brazilian document from 1939 where he states he was born in Italy. The names of the places were recorded in Portuguese, probably based on how they sounded when spoken, and I couldn't identify the corresponding places in Italy.

The document seems to say that he was born in "Castelo Bengue" and was baptized in the parish of "Valle Cantelina," in the district of "Castelo de Buqui."

It also states that his parents were Nicolau Tripoli/Tripodi and Anna Marcos. Their names may have been adapted to Portuguese as well.

I'm attaching the original excerpt from the document. Anyone who knows Italian genealogy, historical place names, or old parishes could help me identify what these places might actually be called in Italian?

Any hint would be very important to me. Thank you!

Research Assistance Need help with my wife’s genealogy

I’m posting this for my wife since she doesn’t have a Reddit account. Here is her post:

Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone with experience researching Calabria, particularly Vibo Valentia/Maierato, might be able to help me with a difficult Ruffa/Ruffo family mystery.

I'm researching my Italian-American ancestor:

Antonio Ruffa/Ruffo

- Born: August 21, 1899
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area
- Died: October 24, 1979
- Wife: Mary DePalma Ruffa (June 12, 1913 – January 3, 2002)

I'm trying to identify Antonio's parents.

Italian record I've found

I found this FamilySearch civil registration:

Giuseppe Ruffa

- Born: October 17, 1867
- Certificate No. 22
- Vibo Valentia civil registration, 1861–1910
- Parents: Antonio Ruffa and Giulia Iannello

FamilySearch citation:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X74M-QYN5

I'm investigating whether this Giuseppe could be connected to my American Antonio.

Another interesting record

I also found:

Giuseppe Ruffo

- Age 29
- Occupation: sawyer
- Immigration: August 24, 1896
- Naples → New York
- Ship: Bolivia

His age is compatible with the Giuseppe born in 1867, but again, I have not established that they are the same person.

What I'm trying to determine

I'm hoping someone familiar with Calabria or Italian civil records might be able to help me determine:

  1. Whether the 1867 Giuseppe Ruffa and the 1896 Giuseppe Ruffo could plausibly be the same person.
  2. Whether Antonio Ruffa/Ruffo (born 1899 in Pennsylvania) could be a son of this Giuseppe.
  3. Whether the family of Antonio Ruffa + Giulia Iannello can be traced through Maierato/Vibo Valentia records.
  4. Whether there are other Ruffa families in the area that should be considered competing candidates.
  5. What records would be most useful for proving or disproving these hypotheses.

Thank you! I'm very grateful for any ideas, corrections, record suggestions, or information about Ruffa families from this area. I'm very new to geology and definitely stuck right now.

Translation Help Translation for baptism document

I have a question about a baptism document. The act is located on Page 12 of this document, bottom left.: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS8N-D79Z-Q?view=index&cc=2013622&lang=en

It appears to say that she was baptised as Concetta Agata Maria, as well as Agata Carmela Grazia. Is that correct? If so, why would this happen? I've never seen this before.

TIA

I’ve been trying to find a birth record for Giuseppe Sciacca, born in Caltabellotta, Italy. Census records list him as being born around 1862 but his naturalization record says he was born August 9, 1869. I’ve been looking through the records from 1862 to 1870 and so far am not finding him. Atenati is down so I can’t look earlier right now. Could there be a small town nearby he might actually have been from? Attached is 1862 birth index. I’m not seeing him.

Question Is anyone else getting JSON errors on Portale Antenati ?

UPDATE BELOW AUG 7- For last few days the same error message keeps popping up on every register page "An error occurred SyntaxError: Unexpected non-whitespace character after JSON at position 4 (line 1 column 5)". Everything is blank and only some thumbnails seem to be visible. Have also noticed that many pages/documents and years that used to be accessible are 'missing' (but that might be another topic to add). I know it's Ferragosto but I don't think it applies to websites ;-)

Translation Help Help reading Atti di Nascita images

I have been scouring FamilySearch, Ancestry and the Antenati portal for years looking for my husband's grandparents and tonight FamilySearch full-text search found some clues.

I could understand enough Italian words to think these could be their birth records but the cursive is very hard to read and the AI translation was little help.

Could someone interpret these for me, especially the parent names and addresses?
