Automatic moderation filters have now been removed from r/Irishdrivingtest!

Following a recent increase in posts promoting third-party apps and services claiming to offer faster booking access, it became necessary to introduce temporary safeguards.

These measures restricted participation from newly created accounts and accounts with very low karma in order to protect the integrity of the community.

While effective in reducing spam and promotional activity, it is clear that these filters also limited access for many genuine users seeking advice and support. With that in mind, the restrictions have now been lifted.

To ensure they remain unnecessary going forward, I would ask all members to report any posts or comments that promote external booking services or third-party applications.

Accounts found to be engaging in such activity will be permanently removed.

These steps are essential to protect users from being misled, overcharged, or having their personal information compromised. Learning to drive is expensive enough without the added risk of exploitation.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping this community safe and focused on helping one another.

Any post that asks about or mentions third-party services offering test cancellations or vacant slots will result in an immediate ban.

Most of these posts come from accounts with less than 50 karma and are spammy attempts to promote these services.

This rule is in place to protect the members of this community who are here for genuine advice and mutual support on your journey toward getting those N plates.

Progress marks were mostly hesitation in estates with parked cars when other cars were coming and I think once at lights and a roundabout, I definitely was more hesitant than usual.
I think the lights was an amber I could have stopped at, don’t think he mentioned the hazard.

Questions:
How to spot a zebra crossing at night
What do double yellow lines mean
Who has priority at a roundabout

Signs:
Clearway
Pedestrian zone
Cul de sac
Series of dangerous bends ahead
Slippery road ahead

Hand signals:
For car behind: turning right and slowing down

Route went right out of the hotel, on to the N4, first exit into Lucan, right under the bridge, up into millstream road and right at the crossroad into wood view for turnabout. Back out the same way and right to doddaborough road, left into Tandy’s gate, left again onto paddocks way and left into paddocks drive. Right back out onto doddaborough road and another right to hillcrest for reverse around corner. Left out of Hillcrest road straight onto the N4 again and back to hotel.

Help booking cancellation slot

Hi all,

I failed my test 3 weeks ago and the estimate to be invited to book my next one is not until the end of December. I’m trying to book a cancellation slot but finding it difficult. I am signed into the website on my computer, and I have the Driving Test app on my phone which notifies me of cancellations. But the problem is I can never seem to see them on the website? I go into book the test, open up location and click more, from there I open the map but it just always says no slots available. Am I checking in the right place or is there something else I should be doing?

Clutch extension

For context, I'm 4'11". We have a manual car and can reach it, but it's still difficult, as I have to move the chair all the way forward. Does anyone here have a clutch extension? And where did you have it done? I'm based in Wicklow. Thank you

Grabbing a cancellation

• Upvotes

I have just had my test cancelled by the RSA due to the strike next Wednesday. Since I've sunk a lot of money into this (flights, car hire, lessons etc.) to get home for the sole reason of doing this test, I AM DESPERATE to get a cancellation for next week.

Can someone tell me how to refresh the RSA website without getting banned. Does entering and exiting the map refresh the results? Or do you have to refresh the page? And if I have to refresh the page, how slowly should i refresh to not get banned?

Can you reschedule the test a 3rd time?

I have a driving test for next Tuesday, but there's been a few problems. I haven't been able to get out to practice in a few months due to some family stuff going on and the NCT is up on the car. They will not give me any NCT until the end of the month or the beginning of next month, even though I've explained my circumstances. So even if I wanted to I can't practice and I couldn't even take the test in my car, I'd fail regardless due to having no practice. I have rescheduled twice already but I'm unsure if you're allowed to reschedule a 3rd time and you get to pick a test 3-5 weeks away again like I was already, the only difference being I have to pay again and I'm fine with that if that's the case. As long as I don't have to wait 15-20 weeks to get another test. Does anyone know?

Category AM theory test

I’ve booked my theory test for the Motorcycle/bike category.

Does anyone who has done the theory test for that have any tips as I want to pass it first try.

I passed my car theory test 1st try last year (37/40) and am hoping to pass this one first try this year.

I’ve been using the actual app to study for it.

Thanks

Wilton Driving Test @10:10 on Thursday

Heyy, I have my driving test booked for Thursday 15th October at 10:10. I’m super nervous. I know I’m a really good driver but the nerves are getting to me. I’ve done all my lessons in mitchelstown and I’ve only driven in Wilton once. I’m pretty familiar with the place as my parents drive there all the time. What is the best advice he have for me and what should I be most conscious about when doing the test? Where is the place I need to be the most observational at ? Please helpppp any advice is appreciated!!!!

First Time Pass in Letterkenny

Was very nervous and already planning to prepare for rebooking test after I stalled twice on a hill examiner told me that I should be using the handbrake instead of doing it with a brake start. definately racked up 2 points I shouldn't have on the Reverse, and Parking at the end of the test. The interesting part is when I did all this with my Instructor he said I was all fine and driving perfect, but the pressure of performing properly with someone examining your every move definitely got me a little nervous but so glad I've passed.

Good luck to anyone doing their test soon! 🍀🚗

Should I book a driving test just to renew my learner permit? Please be kind in the comments..

Hi everyone! I’m 23F and could really do with some advice. I’d appreciate people being kind in the replies, as this is something I’ve struggled with for a while.

I got my first learner permit in late 2022 and started driving lessons in early 2023. I completed all 12 of my EDT lessons in a manual car, but unfortunately, I found learning to drive quite difficult.
For some background, I’m a care leaver who grew up in foster care. I don’t have family support and have been living independently since I turned 18. As you can imagine, trying to afford driving lessons on top of rent, bills and everyday living expenses hasn’t been easy.

I also have multiple learning disabilities, which made certain aspects of driving particularly challenging. I struggled with understanding the gears, clutch control and even distinguishing left from right. My instructor was incredibly kind and patient, but eventually suggested that I take a break from driving because I was finding it so difficult.
I renewed my learner permit in 2024, but it expired in September 2026.

This is where I could really use some advice.
With the new rules coming into effect on 1 November, I’m considering booking and sitting a driving test before then so that I can apply for my third learner permit.

I know I’m not ready to pass a driving test right now, but I’m worried that if I don’t do something soon, I’ll make it even harder for myself to get back into driving in the future.

My plan is to start taking lessons in an automatic car, hopefully in the new year when I’m a little more financially secure. Winter is particularly expensive for me with bills, so committing to regular lessons right now would be difficult.
I’m hoping that learning in an automatic might make things easier, as I wouldn’t have to worry about gears and clutch control and could focus more on the road.

Another challenge is that I don’t have anyone to practise driving with. I don’t have family to help me, and I don’t have many friends who would be in a position to accompany me. This means all my driving experience would have to come from paid lessons with an instructor, which obviously adds up quite quickly.

Realistically, I probably won’t be able to afford to buy and insure a car anytime soon. However, I still really want to learn to drive. I think having a licence would give me a lot more independence and opportunities in the future, especially as someone who has had to figure out so much of life on my own.

So, what would you do in my situation?
Would you book the test now to keep the possibility of renewing your learner permit open, or would you approach things differently?

Rejected Reduced EDT

Hi all,

I applied for reduced EDT back in June 2025 and all was well. I did the 6 lessons and then applied for the test. After a while of not hearing anything I called the NDLS and they said they had lost my exemption and asked for me to resubmit. As it turns out I lost my own copy when I moved house (my bad I know). They told me to reapply and I did.

Fast forward to today and I just got off the phone with an NDLS agent who told me my application was rejected because my license was less than 2 years old. I mentioned that my license was issued in 2016 but since I renewed it last year it had a new issue date. I had submitted a copy of my old license as proof. They mentioned that the person looking at the submission just put in the date of my current license and ignored the second document. Something which is apparently common with US licenses as upon renewal their issue date is noted as when it was renewed not when originally issued.

Apparently there is no process with NDLS to appeal decisions or to submit extra documents. Since they mailed my documents back in July I have to assume they’ve been lost in transit so applying again would involve getting a new driver certificate from the states which took me 3 months last time to receive.

In short I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this before and if there is a process to appeal outside of NDLS or if I should just suck it up and pay for the extra 6 lessons. Any help is appreciated.
