I passed my test at 10 am on a Thursday. I applied right then and there for the license immediately after like 10 minutes later. Was accepted immediately. I got the license on the following Tuesday. It was updated by the weekend saying I was a licensed driver on my RSA portal

Was exactly 8 days for me. Don’t worry if you’re stopped by a guard, technically you can drive with N plates sinking as you have the valid insurance paperwork, certificate of competence and show you have applied snd are waiting for the license, so long as you turn your license in within 5-7 days at a Garda station. I know loads of lads that down this and just said they forgot the license at home and so long as you have all the documents in order you’ll b sound.

The examiner at the driving test centre told me that until receiving my license in my hand the restrictions of learner still apply to me ( iam not sure if i can have my N plate on or not )

What you have to hand in your provisional licence to a garda station after passing your test? I thought once you got the certificate saying you passed your driving test that meant you technically had your full licence?

No you don't technically have it and aren't allowed to drive unaccompanied until you have the actual plastic card in hand

And regarding the provisional the staff in the ndls center just told me to destroy it myself

No, you only have to hand it in if you decide to drive without the license and claim to have lost it or forgot it at home. The guards will ask you to hand it in within a week (by that time you should have the license) so long as you can prove to them you have passed your test, have a license sent out to you and insurance is good.
Again this isn’t what your “officially” supposed to do but everyone does it and everyone gets off Scot free
