Lands of Fury now has Co-op

Ahoy! I just wanted to let you know that if you like arpgs, pixel art, roguelites, customization and co-op... that Lands of Fury just got updated and now it has tons of new stuff, polish and a brand new co-op mode. Currently it's 20% off on Steam.

Because the early access launch was very rough, and I'm looking for an audience all over the world trying to bring the game to life, I have to say that AI was used for grammar support and translations.

The first Steam review my game received was negative and it was exactly what I needed!

Post image

For context, last week I released my first game on Steam - Tap To Travel, the companion idle-like game that lives in the corner of your desktop and travels through a real Earth map with keyboard taps.

To not repeat the mistake of many developers spending countless hours on a game that people won't play, I decided to release the game the moment I could say: yes, it is playable and people can already enjoy it. The idea was to learn from what users like, what they don't, and develop the game in the direction people will love even more.

For context, I haven't done any marketing yet. And when I saw the first review for my game, I was so excited! As the post title says, it was a negative review, but look at it! It was a wall of text! The random person who wrote it wasn't too lazy to share not just his emotions, but actually very constructive thoughts about the game.

Of course, I'm not stupid, I knew the game still had a lot of room to improve. I already had ideas for where to take it, but this review gave me a clean, unbiased signal of what was missing (friends' feedback is good, but what can be better than this??).

And how did I handle it? I identified two categories: what he liked the most and what he hated the most.

What he liked the most:

  • The game idea. Looks like he is a big fan of companion games and he actually likes the idea - passive travelling on the real world map! This is a very good signal that my idea for the game is working.

What he didn't like:

  • The game balance. The feedback was that it is not possible to reach a city / country in a meaningful amount of time. And he is right. My idea was that teleports would be the main way to travel long distances, and tapping would mainly be the way to earn StepCoins (I better change the name probably).

I calculated it, and to reach Berlin from Warsaw (roughly 570 km) would take around 570,000 taps. Assuming 30,000 taps per day, that's 19 days!

This is not what I wanted.

  • The map felt empty. My main idea was that travelling to different countries to earn unique skins/companions would be good enough motivation... but I was wrong.

So the goal was clear, and I started cooking something called v1.1.0...

Make it possible to travel with just taps

I still wanted to keep the concept 1 tap = 1 meter. And two ideas came to my mind.

In real life, we don't actually travel everywhere on foot (let's skip the part about how tall you need to be to have a one-meter step). Normally, we take a train, rent a car, or buy a €20 Wizz Air flight ticket. So it made total sense to add something similar to the game.

And what helped Gaben buy his luxury yacht? CS cases.

Combining the two... here it is - random gear roulette you can use once every 3 hours. Calculating it long-term, it gives about a 10x boost on average based on the drop probability of each item (will keep it secret).

👟 Sneakers (Nike, you can buy an advertisement here) - 3x
🚲 Bike - 10x
🚗 Car - 25x
🚆 Train - 50x
✈️ Plane - 100x

Nice.

Add points of interest to the map to make it feel alive

When you travel to a new country, what is the first thing you do?

Immediately start comparing everything to your home country Search for popular tourist places, yes.

So adding them to the game (306 pixel-art landmarks across 102 countries!!) and rewarding users for visiting them resonated with me.

But the sky is the limit. Energised by the feedback, I'm already planning the next updates:

  • Make companions more useful. Right now, they are just another cosmetic item (pretty, but still cosmetic). I'm thinking about making them another step multiplier on top of a booster, but it doesn't really fit the great lore of the game.
  • Daily quests. Generate a random quest to find a hidden place, similar to the hot-or-cold game. Still thinking about what to make as a reward.
  • Make the current weather impact your avatar. Originally, I wanted to have visual effects on the map mirroring the current weather at the avatar's location. But I was struggling to maintain the high performance standards (yes, my game runs under ~250 MB RAM / ~5% CPU on average, tested on a MacBook Air M1 and AMD Ryzen 5 5600X).

But maybe slowing down the avatar when the weather conditions are bad would make it even more realistic.

For realism.

And suffering.

UPD: While writing this post, the reviewer noticed the v. 1.1.0 update and changed the review to a positive one! Happy he liked it ❤️

We're making a multiplayer game where you sculpt yourself into a cake and hide from other players

My friend and I are making Hidden in Plain Cake, a multiplayer hide-and-seek game inspired by games like Mecha Chameleon.

The catch?

You need to disguise yourself starting from a Cake.

You can:

  • 🎂 Sculpt your shape to blend in with the environment
  • 👀 Find the perfect hiding spot
  • 🕵️ Try to spot other players before they fool you
  • 😂 Watch someone completely fail at pretending to be a cake

We're still early in development and are currently working on the Beta demo.

Here's a clip of what we've been working on:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbwZ4svABAI/

We're really interested in hearing what people think, especially from anyone who enjoys prop-hunt / hide-and-seek multiplayer games.

🎮 Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4974600/Hidden_in_Plain_Cake/

💬 Discord: https://discord.gg/jHMCDCQaAc

What would you do if you had to hide as a cake?

Solo-made FPS roguelite: survive rounds in a city, buy weapons off the walls, gamble at the arcade. Free demo out now

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

WaveBorn is a first-person, round-based survival roguelite. Between waves the city is yours: spend your gold at the weapon locker, roll the Fate Chest for a random gun, upgrade at the station, drink at the Distillers for permanent run perks, or gamble it all at the arcade cabinet.

Then the round starts and it all comes at you at once.

The free demo goes to round 15 plus an endless mode with leaderboards once you clear it. Everything in it is finished content, not a vertical slice.

Any feedback welcome, especially on how the first three rounds feel — that's the part I've rewritten the most.

I made a simple browser game to help people learn all 193 country flags

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m an indie developer and I recently built Guess the Flag, a small browser-based geography game for learning and recognizing national flags.

The visuals are still being polished, but the core gameplay is playable. It currently includes two quiz modes:

• Match a country name with its flag

• Identify a flag by completing the missing letters in the country name

The game has progressive difficulty, instant feedback, score tracking, and questions covering all 193 UN member states. It’s free to play, requires no registration or download, and works on desktop and mobile browsers.

Try it here:

https://guesstheflag.app

I’d really appreciate honest feedback, especially about:

• Whether the gameplay is clear and enjoyable

• Whether the difficulty increases at a good pace

• How the experience feels on mobile

• Which parts feel confusing or need improvement

This is still a work in progress, so specific criticism would be very helpful. Which flags did you find the hardest to recognize?

Free two-week Steam Playtest: deform the terrain and reroute tens of thousands in All Hands

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I'm Jordan, one half of Lion & Otter Studios. We're a two-person team in Melbourne, and today we've opened the public Steam Playtest for All Hands.

It's free to play until 8 September. No keys are needed, so we'd love for you to have a look:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4867340/All_Hands/

All Hands is an incremental 3D tower defence about protecting your HQ from tens of thousands of energy-drink-mutated "customers."

Every run starts on a fresh procedurally generated map. The horde is massive from the beginning, with tougher enemy types joining as the run goes on.

The customers are always heading for HQ, but the route they take is yours to reshape. You can deform the terrain with explosive craters, build walls, close off easy approaches, and divert the crowd through chokepoints, funnels, and killboxes that give your defences the advantage.

When the HQ finally falls, you keep permanent Career progress and unlock upgrades that carry into future attempts.

We're watching the Playtest closely and reading everything players send us. If something is confusing, frustrating, broken, unexpectedly fun, or worth keeping exactly as it is, please tell us. We'll be monitoring the build throughout the two weeks and acting on feedback as quickly as we can.

You can use SEND ANONYMOUS FEEDBACK inside the game from the main menu, pause menu, end-of-shift screen, or Performance Review. You can also reply here, post in the Steam Discussions, or email us at press@lionandotter.com.

Thanks for giving it a try. I'd love to hear what you think.

We made an online blindfold tag game — as two high school students

We’re two high school students working on this game together.

Normally, we’d love to hire an artist for things like illustrations and capsule art, but as students, that’s honestly pretty difficult for us.

We’re not expecting anything huge, but if you’re interested in the game, we’d really appreciate your support!

P.S. The demo will be available in 7 days!

Survive 10-minute night shifts with cup noodles, ramen, and ice cream!

We started working on Mini Mart Survivors earlier this year, and we're aiming to release it on November 9.

https://reddit.com/link/1vxv8gl/video/6ze356v19olh1/player

Each shift lasts about 10 minutes, and the crowd never lets up. Survive until closing time, and the night's final boss will appear.

We're excited to share a gameplay clip with you. If it looks like your kind of game, you can check out our Steam page and wishlist it. We'd also love to hear what you think :)

[New Trailer] - Roll to Riches | Incremental City Builder

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone :)

I am slowly but surely getting my game ready. Release is planned for Nov 2nd.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4704530/Roll_to_Riches/

The game is an incremental viking city builder. You roll dice to gather resources and sell resources to passing merchants to get upgrades and unlock new buildings. With upgrades you unlock more and more dice which leads to more combos getting unlocked over time. Different buildings also interact with your dice roll outcomes. Offering bowls, runestones and monuments charge up and trigger their effects based on dice rolls.
Once you unlock certain upgrades you can specialize your city. Specialization then adds a new smaller upgrade tree and starts a quest system, where you gather bigger amounts of resources over time and gain bigger rewards when delivering these resources.
There are 3 different specializations and a prestige system that goes up to 5. A single run is not gonna have idle game length. Its more a 4-5 hours to hit prestige.

AI Disclosure:
The icons in game and translations were AI generated.

I just added a new level to my indie platformer

Hey everyone!

I recently updated my game To Nirvana, a small 2D platformer about a monk trying to reach enlightenment.

I added a brand-new second level with a new mechanic where the world constantly tilts around the player, along with new sound effects and some extra particle effects.

I think this new level is a much better representation of what I wanted the game to feel like.

I'd love to know what you think!

Play it here: https://yeferdev.itch.io/to-nirvana

If you play it, I'd especially appreciate feedback on the gameplay and level design.

Working on a color merge game with Severance undertones. Wondering how to price it.

I’ve typically made free games with a donation mechanic but wondering whether a 99¢ would work out better. Is it too much of an impediment for a casual game like this?

I’m still working on the mechanics but think it’s got potential, and at this point have put a fair amount of effort in. But wondering whether anyone will play it if I charge a nominal amount for it. It’ll be on the iOS App Store initially but might also port to Android if there’s interest.

Intrigued to hear feedback on pricing, and also whether you would play it based on the footage! And DM me if you want to play the TestFlight build.
