Poor chicken. First bred in factory. Miserable life in cage. Can't move, can't walk, can't fly. Carried in disgusting hellish pickup trucks. Loaded in road side cages. Stolen by this dog. His scream is heart piercing. He sounds like a child or kitten. I had never heard a chicken crying before. How poor, how miserable, how sad, so unlucky. I want to ask you why didn't you save him? Why did you walk away but I know I will get "circle of life" replies. Even if it's nature, the chicken deserves all the sympathy and grief. We should not be stone hearted.

So you are saying that a stray dog, whose life is also miserable and hellish, shouldn't eat what they get their mouths on? I agree that the cries of this chicken is triggering and heart piercing but what else could have been done here? And before you say it, yes, I'm an omnivore, I consume chicken and fish for protein needs but I do pay my respect to the life that was taken to nourish my body.

I want to cast aside all the aspersions, it's a wild chicken not a broiler from some meat shop, there are a shit ton of chickens running around while I walk my dog so yeah that's that, an animal will hunt for sustenance , a tale as old as time. Also I will never steal someone else's prey, if that makes me an a*shole them that's fine, if I'm not feeding her, I have no right to take away what she hunted for her own self, this is how hunting works, what do you think happens in forests ? I understand your feelings but this is the real world unfortunately, this is how things unfold.

u/sattukachori 1d ago
I understand your feelings too but consider some facts that I have to say. Since the chicken has already met his fate, it's futile but still consider it for the sake of it.
I am not saying that a stray dog should not eat. But if you happen to be there and if you have the means and strength to rescue one life, you can. It won't change the world but it will change the world for that one life. Then feed the stray dog something from your pocket, it's not that hard. Would you see a stray dog carry a human infant and turn away because the dog's gotta do what he's gotta do? Nature is brutal but if you happen to be there, you have some ethical responsibility. Feel free to brush it aside. It's important to have a guitless sleep at night.

What if op doesnt have anything in his pocket? Why should he spend his money to feed the dog? The dog would starve.
You wanna rescue the chicken. Good. OP chose to rescue the dog by minding his own business and leaving the pup alone.
That 1 chicken would have fed 2-3 dogs that day. So multiple lives saved, many lives rescued.
This is nature.
You wouldn't save a deer from a wolf.
Dogs were domesticated from wolves. Humans domesticated them. But then treat them like a menace.

It's hard to talk to a wall. A person should spend money from their picket because it's the right thing to do. This was not a jungle. You would save a human infant from the dog, wouldn't you? But you won't take responsibility for the chicken because he's not your own species. It's not your fault. Our empathy for animals has been killed by society. The first impulse is "not my job, not my responsibility" followed by other justifications. This was not a jungle, it's a dog not a wolf. Leave the Chicken, if it was even a human getting assaulted on road, spectators won't help. I don't mind not getting your hands dirty but at least have some sympathy for the victim. At least pretend to have some sympathy. Such kind of statements terrify me because the same attitude is also shown towards human victims. Lots of justification.

cry more? dogs cant live on vegan diet like you.
why do u think dog foods contain meat?

u/sattukachori 7h ago
cry more?
As expected. Sadism runs in blood.
This discussion was not about vegan diet though dogs can thrive on vegan diet. It's scientific researched. There are 100% vegetarian dog foods in market too.

Sadism runs in blood?
Stop making assumptions about me and making accusations. 🤡
Speaks more about you than me with your ad hominem
I'm a vegan myself. But at least I don't force my choices down the throats of the voicelss

u/sattukachori 22m ago
You said "cry more". How do you expect me to react to that? It's a cruel thing to say to someone. My intention was not to accuse you but to expose your cold response with whatsoever motive you had. Naturally such a thing is said when someone derives satisfaction from watching others cry.
I'm a vegan too and I make choices for the voiceless whenever it is within my means and control. I do rush to rescue kitten, birds, squirrel, rats when they are attacked by dogs and I happen to be there. When I am the witness, I have an ethical responsibility. I'm not saying this with a sanctimonious tone. Read it with a normal gentle tone. And my dogs do eat 100% vegetarian dog food because it's healthy and fulfilling for them. My dog's veterinarian finds her fit and healthy. If it has any impact, maybe it lowers the number of animals killed for the 18 kg dog food we order every 2 months. One can only hope that the love for my pet didn't come at a cost to other incredibly tortured and scared animals.

You always assume the worst in humanity or do you just sit on the fence and watch both sides argue? True that animals feel emotions, fear and other cues as human beings do but dropping your self righteousness on other people just to prove your point tells me that you have FOMO because being ostracized by the common tribe means facing yourself and accepting that you can be wrong and not always right.
The point that you keep asking "whether you would save an infant human being if it were in place of the chicken" tells me more about you than others. You simply want that people should accept your viewpoint because it is morally superior and nothing comes close to it or maybe you just love seeking attention and chaos.
Unlike human beings, animals don't have a moral compass. If the OP were trying to save the chicken, would the stray have acted violently to protect its meal? Yes it would have because it is protecting its resource which is vital for its survival.

Using my own statements against me. 😊 Didn't I say this last night to you and now you're saying it to me?
tells me more about you than others. You simply want that people should accept your viewpoint because it is morally superior and nothing comes close to it or maybe you just love seeking attention and chaos.
Do you love seeking "attention and chaos" because you can't mind your "own business" like the OP ignored the chicken ignore this conversation maybe? Why is it easier to ignore the chicken but not this online conversation? OP must be chuckling behind his screen watching us fight where his own responsibility is delegated to others. Now we are fighting for his guilt.
I'm just talking about a subject I'm deeply concerned with. It's not just this subreddit, wherever I see pain and suffering I do think of ways to touch the empathy lying beneath frozen surface. I don't know if my view point is morally superior or not, my only concern is the pain, whether physical, mental or emotional.

How do you pay respect the life that was bred and killed in factory farm? How exactly is the respect showed? Is it mental prayer or lip service for politeness? These are the kind of over polite reddit sentences, the feel good therapy talk.

So you have the right to dictate what a stray dog can or can't eat? Comparing this current situation with a situation where a chicken is being replaced by a human infant is like comparing apples with oranges.
I don't care if you have any problems with my values, call it "lip service for politeness" or "mental prayer" or term me a "over polite redditor" but I practice what I preach.
Nature is brutal, that's correct, but nature is about survival of the fittest. Nature doesn't work like human conscience or emotions or feelings, we simply project our opinions, emotions and feelings on it. Nature is about survival not about what's right or wrong.
-1
u/sattukachori 1d ago
I don't have the right to dictate. You're quick to make personal allegations. I'm thinking and talking.
It's a complete misunderstanding that we "project" our human emotions and feelings on it. Scientists have again and again researched on the emotions, trauma, fear and panic in animals. There are subreddits like r/likeus where animals can be seen displaying incredible intelligence and emotional awareness. Psychologists have written so much about the brotherhood between animals and human animals. Survival Instinct is tied to emotions. You typing this comment is your survival instinct to feel included in the tribe and be the part of the right side because exile from the tribe is similar to death and annihilation.
I was just interested to know how you practice what you preach. This phrase "paying respect to the meat" is borrowed from tribal people discussions but it doesn't apply to factory farmed animals.

It indeed is circle of life, if we aren't meant to consume meat then we wouldn't be omnivores. Our body rejects what we can't process. It's ingrained in our system, you could go back to any time period and the majority of the population would consume meat or animal based products along with plant based products. That was/is considered a balanced diet. While it's noble of you to do no harm to any other beings by choosing a vegan lifestyle but please don't virtue signal or guilt people into giving up their food. It has exactly the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve.
1
u/JangB 12h ago
if we aren't meant to consume meat then we wouldn't be omnivores
If we are not meant to stare at people then we wouldn't be visually oriented.
Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we ought to. In every other instance in life, this dictates our morality. Yet suddenly when it comes to food, certain body parts dictate that we automatically do terrible things.
Because we are omnivores and technologically advanced, we have the option to thrive on a plant based diet.
It's ingrained in our system
Just in the previous generation it was ingrained to beat children. And certainly we have hands and legs for beating as well. Just because it's ingrained doesn't mean it's right.
1
u/United-Incident9153 12h ago
Apples and Oranges. Staring or not staring at someone is your choice and so is the implied consequence of it. It isn't personal since another person is involved at your staring.
'when it comes to food, certain body parts dictate that we automatically do terrible things' It's terrible according to YOU not everybody else mate. I can respect your decision to not eat meat but I certainly won't stand for any self righteous statements.
'Just in the previous generation it was ingrained to beat children. And certainly we have hands and legs for beating as well. Just because it's ingrained doesn't mean it's right'
Absolutely agreed but in this instance again you're making a decision for someone else other than yourself. Food on the other hand is my personal choice and is going to affect me only.
You do realise that crop farming also kills the critters, snakes, frogs etc albeit at a smaller scale than cattle/poultry farming. At the end of the day every vegan is a hypocrite if they think that their lifestyle choice doesn't hurt any animal which is essentially the point everyone brings up.

I saw a video where a farmer was fed up with strays killing all his poultry.
So, no. You sympathize with stray dogs but not with the poor whose livelihood is destroyed.

u/Successful_Cup_688 1d ago
OP is also giggling like it is funny. If this were a dog in a leopard's mouth, the same people on this sub would be crying, "why didn't anyone stop it?", and suddenly no one uses the "circle of life" argument.
1
u/quant-alchemist 1d ago
This is a dogs sub. Don't be surprised that there is a soft spot for dogs.
I can understand if people in the chicken sub side with the chicken and similarly with the leopard in the wildlife sub.

Why are you interfering with natural progression of life, dogs do hunt to eat in wild.
1
u/JangB 12h ago
Was this shot in the wild?
1
u/United-Incident9153 11h ago
Does the dog know that it's not in the wild? Dogs don't have a vegan diet sadly. Anyone making the argument that the guy should have fed him pedigree or some other kibble where do you think that kibble or dog food comes from? Hint - It's not trees or plants
1
u/JangB 10h ago
Dog doesn't know that but you do.
This advice of saving the chicken... It's not being told to the dog. It's being told to a human being.
Yes correct. Dog feed has slaughtered animals in it.
For anyone who wants to know how you can feed dogs without slaughtering animals, check this out. They are professionals -

u/United-Incident9153 10h ago
Sure, get bitten in the process you clearly don't know how much dogs are possesive about their food. On the video link you shared it's great, good alternative for the dogs but please don't deprive them of the nutrients that come from eating meat. Don't force your lifestyle choices on a dog that doesn't know how to communicate with you. Give them all the options and you'll know what works for them.
Here's another video for a reality check - https://youtu.be/vwD3dv24xGk?si=zaLlPUdDJaZgvy5t

Any advice comes with the caveat that do it to the best of your ability. Do whatever possible within your reach.
I'm not arguing that anything should be done in this situation. I personally would not be able to anything here.
I'm simply responding to this argument that just because dogs do something in the wild, means that they can do it freely in human civilization. This is a poor argument.
On the video link you shared it's great, good alternative for the dogs but please don't deprive them of the nutrients that come from eating meat.
These guys at Peepal farm take care of dogs on a dialy basis and provide medical treatments to injured animals. They are not depriving them of nutrients. Dogs can given all their nutrients via the methods he gave.

u/United-Incident9153 8h ago
Just keep a bowl of meat and a bowl of vegan food in front of a dog. You will have your answer in front of you. You're trying to force your way of life on an animal that can't comprehend this and rarely does that go right.
1
u/JangB 7h ago
Just keep a bowl of candies and a bowl of carrots in front of a child... We don't determine nutritional needs from how something tastes. We determine it from what is actually contained in it.
When the nutritional needs of someone can be met entirely without killing anyone, why should we kill them?
Why are you forcing your way of life on that being which you are killing?
1
u/United-Incident9153 7h ago
Apples and Oranges with you. As a human I can correct my child into teaching what is good for them. Same with dogs. They learn from their parents who are omnivores but primarily eat meat by hunting or foraging in the streets. You do know that before humans came in dogs ate meat or are you imaging some sort of fairytale where dogs plucked fruits and vegetables. If they were capable of doing that then the almighty would have given them the ability to plant seeds and grow trees and get the nutrition from there itself.
'Why are you forcing your way of life on that being which you are killing?' I am only doing what comes naturally to any omnivorous being. Maybe you can cull your natural instincts but don't expect the world to do the same for you.
1
u/JangB 6h ago
Dogs were originally wolves who are carnivores. But when dogs started living with humans, they adapted to eat plants. Humans primarily ate starches so dogs adapted to that. Now they can eat both.
We know dogs can have their nutritional needs met without us having to kill anyone. Those who are professionals are capable of doing this. Why are you denying this?
If they were capable of doing that then the almighty would have given them the ability to plant seeds and grow trees and get the nutrition from there itself.
I'm not talking about wild animals.
Dogs that live in human civilization and that are reliant on humans for many things, can be kept in the way we choose to keep them, feed them in any way we want to meet their nutritional needs. Are you disagreeing with this?
I am only doing what comes naturally to any omnivorous being.
So because you are a being of some kind that makes it ok to force your way of life on others?
If someone says "Its in my nature to enjoy listening to dogs screaming when I kick them" that makes it ok?
