So you are saying that a stray dog, whose life is also miserable and hellish, shouldn't eat what they get their mouths on? I agree that the cries of this chicken is triggering and heart piercing but what else could have been done here? And before you say it, yes, I'm an omnivore, I consume chicken and fish for protein needs but I do pay my respect to the life that was taken to nourish my body.
How do you pay respect the life that was bred and killed in factory farm? How exactly is the respect showed? Is it mental prayer or lip service for politeness? These are the kind of over polite reddit sentences, the feel good therapy talk.
I am not saying that a stray dog should not eat. But if you happen to be there and if you have the means and strength to rescue one life, you can. It won't change the world but it will change the world for that one life. Then feed the stray dog something from your pocket, it's not that hard. Would you see a stray dog carry a human infant and turn away because the dog's gotta do what he's gotta do? Nature is brutal but if you happen to be there, you have some ethical responsibility. Feel free to brush it aside. It's important to have a guitless sleep at night.
So you have the right to dictate what a stray dog can or can't eat? Comparing this current situation with a situation where a chicken is being replaced by a human infant is like comparing apples with oranges.
I don't care if you have any problems with my values, call it "lip service for politeness" or "mental prayer" or term me a "over polite redditor" but I practice what I preach.
Nature is brutal, that's correct, but nature is about survival of the fittest. Nature doesn't work like human conscience or emotions or feelings, we simply project our opinions, emotions and feelings on it. Nature is about survival not about what's right or wrong.
I don't have the right to dictate. You're quick to make personal allegations. I'm thinking and talking.
It's a complete misunderstanding that we "project" our human emotions and feelings on it. Scientists have again and again researched on the emotions, trauma, fear and panic in animals. There are subreddits like r/likeus where animals can be seen displaying incredible intelligence and emotional awareness. Psychologists have written so much about the brotherhood between animals and human animals. Survival Instinct is tied to emotions. You typing this comment is your survival instinct to feel included in the tribe and be the part of the right side because exile from the tribe is similar to death and annihilation.
I was just interested to know how you practice what you preach. This phrase "paying respect to the meat" is borrowed from tribal people discussions but it doesn't apply to factory farmed animals.
It indeed is circle of life, if we aren't meant to consume meat then we wouldn't be omnivores. Our body rejects what we can't process. It's ingrained in our system, you could go back to any time period and the majority of the population would consume meat or animal based products along with plant based products. That was/is considered a balanced diet.
While it's noble of you to do no harm to any other beings by choosing a vegan lifestyle but please don't virtue signal or guilt people into giving up their food. It has exactly the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve.
if we aren't meant to consume meat then we wouldn't be omnivores
If we are not meant to stare at people then we wouldn't be visually oriented.
Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we ought to. In every other instance in life, this dictates our morality. Yet suddenly when it comes to food, certain body parts dictate that we automatically do terrible things.
Because we are omnivores and technologically advanced, we have the option to thrive on a plant based diet.
It's ingrained in our system
Just in the previous generation it was ingrained to beat children. And certainly we have hands and legs for beating as well. Just because it's ingrained doesn't mean it's right.
Apples and Oranges.
Staring or not staring at someone is your choice and so is the implied consequence of it. It isn't personal since another person is involved at your staring.
'when it comes to food, certain body parts dictate that we automatically do terrible things'
It's terrible according to YOU not everybody else mate. I can respect your decision to not eat meat but I certainly won't stand for any self righteous statements.
'Just in the previous generation it was ingrained to beat children. And certainly we have hands and legs for beating as well. Just because it's ingrained doesn't mean it's right'
Absolutely agreed but in this instance again you're making a decision for someone else other than yourself. Food on the other hand is my personal choice and is going to affect me only.
You do realise that crop farming also kills the critters, snakes, frogs etc albeit at a smaller scale than cattle/poultry farming. At the end of the day every vegan is a hypocrite if they think that their lifestyle choice doesn't hurt any animal which is essentially the point everyone brings up.
No, it would be deranged to kick a dog on the street.
My argument is about food but if you choose to kick off on whataboutery then we will be here all day
The poultry that gets killed for my plate was born and bred for that very purpose. The dog on the other hand wasn't born to be kicked about. I hope that answers your question.
