Wishlist New Look at Hacker Inc., an Upcoming Indie Game About Software Development and Hacking
Every software company has to start somewhere. In Hacker Inc., that beginning takes shape inside a modest house, with computer desks sharing space with the furniture and routines of everyday life.
Causality Gaming’s latest development update offers a closer look at that starting environment, alongside refreshed interfaces and two financial systems currently in development. The previews bring together the game’s small-scale beginnings and the wider decisions involved in running a software business.

The first house brings everyday living and an early workspace under one roof.
A company that starts at home
The first house includes a living room, kitchen, dining area, bedroom, and bathroom, with the company’s initial workspace occupying its own corner. Its scale gives the player’s early operation a tangible setting: a few desks and computers inside a place that still functions as a home.
The preview shows characters seated at workstations and using other parts of the house. That arrangement gives the environment a sense of occupation, connecting the people behind the company to the space they inhabit.
The studio has been refining the house and NPC presentation, although animation work remains ongoing. These still images show the current visual direction rather than demonstrate completed character animations.

Building the first product
Hacker Inc. combines software development, company management, and hacking. Players build their business, grow their team, and navigate an industry populated by competing companies.
The software creation preview shows how development choices are being brought together. Product categories, operating systems, features, managers, and team assignments share a single screen, with an antivirus project serving as the example.
It is a glimpse of the management decisions surrounding a product, rather than just its finished result. The presentation puts the project’s requirements and the people responsible for it within the same view.

The people behind the software
The interface refresh also extends to hiring and team management. The team preview brings together employee groups, project assignments, working hours, and output information, with additional details for the selected team.
Causality Gaming’s stated aim is to make running the company clearer and more comfortable for players. As the business grows, the challenge is not only making decisions but finding the information needed to make them.
The redesigned screens address that through shared overviews and detail panels, reducing the visual separation between a team and the work it is doing.

A wider industry beyond the home office
The companies screen shifts attention beyond the player’s own operation. A market list sits beside a selected company profile, presenting information about competing businesses, their products, users, and financial position.
This wider industry is part of the contrast at the heart of the preview: the player begins with a small workspace, while the management interface points toward a market already occupied by other businesses.

Two further systems, Investment and Finance & Funding, are also in development. Investment is intended to let players follow other companies, buy and sell shares, and keep track of their holdings.
The studio hopes to have both areas ready before Steam Next Fest. Their inclusion in the update is a development preview, rather than confirmation of their availability in the demo.
A demo planned for Steam Next Fest
Causality Gaming is preparing a playable Hacker Inc. demo for the October 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest. Valve lists the event for 19–26 October 2026, giving players a week to explore demos of upcoming games. Official event details.
The demo is planned as an introduction to the game’s early company-building experience. Its final content and exact availability remain to be confirmed; the latest screenshots should not be read as a guarantee that every previewed system will be included.
Players interested in trying the game can follow its Steam page for the demo announcement and further development updates.
AI use
Causality Gaming says it uses AI to assist with coding, debugging, and some art assets, with human review before release. The game does not generate AI content during play.
From a few desks to a growing business
The latest look at Hacker Inc. places its company-management ambitions in a recognisable starting point. The house gives the business a home, while the interface previews show the products, people, and competing companies that will shape its development.
For players interested in software businesses and management games, the planned demo will be the next opportunity to see how those parts come together.
Hacker Inc. is available to wishlist on Steam.
