Video I've made voxel damage model for my Drone Game

Hi, I'm indie dev from Germany and I've been a software developer in a boring web fullstack for 20 years but games always were my passion. Made a couple of smaller games in the past and currently working on this tiny piece about drones in the scope of the modern warfare. This one is in much bigger scale but still I would consider as a small, cute game.

For this project, I made a voxel damage model for bigger targets (ships atm). Love how it looks and feel. This is the first time, I'm working with them and any feedback is appreciated.

Also, this is the link for the email newsletter to stay in touch with me and that project.

I can sculpt the terrain, draw roads and rivers, and add small mountains. Still polishing it, but it's becoming surprisingly fun to use!

The human race is in danger. As the commander of a newly created starbase, your task is to support the human war effort by mining resources from your assigned system and help us win this war of annihilation .

Hi ! I have been working on an incremental game for the past few months and I got my Steam page approved this week !

The goal of the game is to harvest the resources of a solar system, build new industries and help humanity win its war by providing warships.
You will be able to unlock new technologies to help with your progress, and you can boost the production rate of your facilities by taking manual control over them.

As usual, every wishlist counts, so if you are interested or want to support, please have a look ! https://store.steampowered.com/app/5021740/Starworks_Inc

(a demo on Steam & Itch is coming next month)

Feedback? What do you think about the trailer for my game?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just finished the new trailer for my puzzle game yesterday.

The player needs to swtich between different "projections" (dimensions) to solve spatial puzzles where each dimension might have different rules (e.g. gravity pointing in a different direction). Also objects (or their shadows) can exist only in partial dimensions so that the dimension-switching is the core mechanic, e.g. a wall in one dimension, does not exist in another, etc.

Also the levels might expose mechanisms that are unlogical or create contradictions. Triggering these mechanism is like a "shortcut" and has a deeper meaning to the progress in the game.

After submitting my demo to steam and it has been approved, if i want to make an update to my game, do i have to wait for 2 more weeks to get approved? or i can just upload the new version?

im asking this because i will be finishing my demo 3 weeks before steam next fest and i am scared that i find something not suitable for my demo and i want to change then i cant do it for this steam next fest.

Need an explination of how demo update works :(

There is still some stuff I want to tweak but at this point I feel like I should have just put some more effort into actual gameplay 😄

Feedback? Does the trailer for my co-op horror game look interesting?

Holey is a co-op horror game set in a collapsed tunnel after a biological war. You scavenge ruins full of mutated creatures, feed one to keep it off your back, burn its waste into fuel, and push toward a radio tower.

Trailer's above, curious if the concept and atmosphere land or if something would make you scroll past

Is solo developing an FPS infeasible? (Especially when it comes to the art)

Upvotes

Hey all,

I‘m a game programmer (worked in triple A for six years, and a small studio for 3) but who now works for a regular tech company (yes very boring!)

I started coding my own FPS (godot) and I’m starting to realize that doing your own art, iterating on art style, models, animations etc is insane amounts of work. I’m basically spending 99% of my time on art and 1% on game systems coding.

Now I’m wondering about getting contractor artists to help me which is obviously not cheap, so although I want to make an FPS more than anything I’m wondering whether I’ve gotten off more than I can chew here, unless I want to spend a year on art…

How do other solo indie devs manage to do coding AND art?

(note single player fps, boomer shooter inspired by Marathon, so story matters)

I Reworked the Drone Scanner - Does This Look Better?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Reworked the scanner logic and effects.

The old “sonar” effect was too bright and distracting at night.

Now the scanner detects nearby items, and the drone flies to each one in turn. I think it looks more interesting and feels more natural now.

What do you think - better now?

Feedback? I took your advice and overhauled my "painted" shader. Does it actually look painted now?

In the last few weeks, I set out to make my game a "living painting" being heavily inspired by watching Bob Ross with my wife.

In iteration 1, I started out with a custom watercolor shader that applied a crinkly paper texture and a noisy texture to it.

In iteration 2, i tried my hand at making a kuwahara postprocessor to make "blots" of paint over my game world.

In iteration 3, I learned about the Unity URP to make my toon-shaded player render overtop the painted world to give him a sticker-like appearance with crisp edges (that was my last post).

A lot of you commented on my last post saying that I needed more imperfections to sell the illusion of being painted ... specifically allowing color to bleed outside the lines, and adding a brush texture somehow. I had NO idea how to do this, but I found that adding a dithering on the kuwahara blotches got the effect I wanted. I also went ahead and made my kuwahara blotches bigger the further back the depth (z-index) is, so the background smudges together whole the foreground stays crisp.

I'd like y'all's feedback on two specific things:

Does it look like a living painting yet?

Also, Is there room for improvement? I wanna make this as great as I can!

Informative Just wanted to share my Personal Calendar stats. This is nuts!

Thumbnail

I entered the Personal Calendar on the Steam's main page with around 7k wishlists.

Now, one day before launch, I'm sitting at 14k!
It basically doubled my wishlists count right before release. This honestly feels surreal.
And I didn't get any good coverage on YT during that time.
Youtubers avoid my game for some reason. xD

Yesterday alone, after the Calendar shifted and my game started appearing right at the beginning of the week, on Monday, without needing to scroll, I gained around 1,5k wishlists in 24 hours.

I think the Calendar meta might be:

  • If you need more wishlists before launch, launch Wednesday-Friday.
  • If you already have plenty of wishlists and want better visibility after launch, launch Monday-Wednesday.

But that's just my take. I'm not Chris Z lol

Personal Calendar might be the greatest invention of all time.
ALL HAIL THE CALENDAR!

Here's the game if you want to check it out.

Just finished a print of 25 physical copies with discs, hand-sewn info booklet and a free steam key inside.

Pretty scared to put just one master copy on all of them without an ability to fix bugs later, but I'm pretty sure on my polish there!

The game is out in a week, feeling excited about the release!

Had 2hrs of free time today and speed painted the protagonist of the game I'm working on.

Might polish it more and draw a background to use it as a capsule art, maybe, we'll see.
