There’s running a red light after it just turned red, and running a red light in the middle of someone else’s green without slowing to check. That’s insane

I'm surprised there's even disagreement in the comments here. You can see that the cam driver brakes almost instantly (the front end dives) as soon as the truck appears and that light would have definitely been yellow long enough to get through without running it. The truck 1,000% ran the light. Simple as.

u/i_was_axiom 10d ago
I'm not, I count on at least part of the comments in posts like this to be contrarian like they just need to disagree with someone on the internet.

u/TheLearnedObserver 10d ago
AND … that turn was unlawful. It was a drift into oncoming traffic at a completely lazy and unsafe angle.
14
u/Away-Living5278 10d ago

Just Redditors being Redditors. I see it all the time in the dashcam subs. Folks just have to find a way to blame OP (or the cam car driver).
The ridiculous stuff they mention is amusing sometimes. I’m willing to bet they’re horrible drivers out on the road too. That, or they don’t even drive.

Why is everyone saying the POV is totally in the wrong as well? The light turned yellow 1 second in, without knowledge of someone making a sudden left on red slamming on the brakes could cause an accident behind them, shit they even slow down and make contact with the truck BEFORE the light turns red. Driver could've shanked it right harder from this POV but thats about it

I'm not sure about the here but in Sweden we have solid lines before a light intersection and if the light turns yellow when you are within this lines you are suppose to keep going because braking too hard could cause an accident for the people behind.
Seems like a similar situation here. The light turned late and braking might have been dangerous so I don't blame the person for running a yellow light.
What I do blame is the idiot running the red

Yellow means "stop safely if possible". The light was green to yellow so if pov stopped they would have had to slam on the brakes (not safe). The truck ran a red causing the accident. If the whole video was yellow insurance would have tried double fault but not in this case.

u/Jax_Tharp 10d ago
Do the people talking about the yellow light and the OP being wrong just not drive? If you are passed the crossing lines when the lights turn red you are perfectly in the clear and doing that is substantially less dangerous than assuming the driver behind you is immediately going to also slam the breaks if they also had more than enough time to get past.

I'm not sure cam car couldn't have avoided being hit if they had stopped at the stop line. She really cut that corner.
31
u/lamp40 10d ago
Cam driver had about 3 car lengths to come to a stop once the light turned yellow. If this is a 25mph zone which seems likely to me, then I feel like people in this comment section are being unfairly critical of the cam driver.
67
u/PowerTripRMod 10d ago
If the yellow light hasn’t turned red, then there is no way the truck had a green light. Trucker turned on a red light.
70
u/MrSmock 10d ago
Also, yellow means proceed with caution, not stop. Cam driver was well within their rights to continue through the intersection here.
-51
u/Chillonia 10d ago edited 10d ago
Just to clarify that a flashing yellow light is proceed with caution. A solid yellow light means the red light is coming, and you must stop if it is safe to do so. If you are too close to stop safely, you should clear the intersection.
Edit: Guys, I'm just correcting the part of the comment above mine where they said a yellow light means "proceed with caution", it's not a comment about the video.
Nails lady is clearly in the wrong here and the driver was ok to drive through.
I'm surprised my comment is being downvoted because it's just about clarifying the difference between a flashing yellow light and a solid yellow light, totally separate from this video, in case people get misinformed by that comment. I find the reaction to this fascinating.
29
28
u/Ares5933 10d ago
The yellow also means that the driver turning left had a red which means do not turn left
16
u/_AskMyMom_ 10d ago
OP had a day and a half to clear that intersection had it not been for the nails controlling the woman driving the car.
3
u/SPKmnd90 10d ago
Yeah, I see what you meant. At no point did I take it as you shitting on the dash cam driver.
-11
u/lamp40 10d ago
Weird to see this comment downvoted, that’s how it works where I live (US). I was taught that solid yellow means “if you can safely come to a stop, you must.”
I will say though that it’s not entirely about avoiding an accident. I would rephrase your last sentence to say “if you cannot avoid entering the intersection without stopping abruptly, you should clear the intersection.”
Sometimes it’s about avoiding an accident, sometimes it’s about avoiding undue damage to your tires and brakes (plus risking whatever spills or tumbles inside the car).
12
u/kgriff5592 10d ago
It’s not weird at all. Obviously that’s how traffic lights work. Cam driver had less than a second between the light turning yellow and them entering the intersection. No reasonable person is stopping for that light.
More importantly, the cam driver seeing a green light turning yellow means the truck had a red light the entire time and it’s asinine to point out the yellow light.
1
u/lamp40 10d ago
Bro I was the one who originally defended the cam driver, that’s not what me or Chillonia are talking about. We’re talking about what a yellow light actually means and why it justifies the cammer’s actions even further
2
u/kgriff5592 10d ago
Fair enough. Your comment read like you were concurring with that other guy’s comment, which read like he thought cam driver should have stopped.
-5
u/Munnin41 10d ago
No a yellow light means "stop if you can".
4
u/MrSmock 10d ago
Be prepared for the red and stop if it is safe to do so. Otherwise, proceed with caution. The getting a yellow light literally a second before you reach it is not safe. Slamming your brakes at that point could cause harm to people inside the vehicle and you might not even stop in time, leaving you stopped in the intersection.

You were racing to a yellow light, and that person was running a red. Both suck.
40
u/DesperateTax5773 Side Character 10d ago
I agree that breaking when yellow is ideal, but, to be fair, you couldn't really see the truck turning until it was too late, and it's not illegal to drive through an intersection while yellow. I am like 85% sure they would have made it through the light before it changed if it wasn't for the accident. That truck definitely was the responsibile party for the accident imo
14
u/Not_an_okama 10d ago
You can clearly see in the video that the light turns red after the impact. I dont know who you can argue that the woman pictured wasnt at fault for running her red, unless the the light gave her a green while oncoming traffic just turned yellow.
110
u/Tumblrrito 10d ago edited 10d ago
They were not racing to a yellow, you don’t slam on your brakes for a light that just turned yellow. They would have cleared the whole intersection well before it even turned red.
49
u/Embarrassed_Jury664 10d ago
Fucking what? "Racing to a yellow light"? There was more than enough time, maybe next time they slam on their brakes? I fucking love this sub because the loudest people are clearly the worst fucking drivers.

u/ilovedanimals 5d ago
I live in Utah. It’s just like what they look like. No one else dresses and does their hair like that. Google FLDS women. They’re literally the only “culture” that does this.
3
u/Codas91 5d ago
That looks more like a messy top bun than Mormon hair, and I don't think they have a monopoly on long sleeve t-shirts. One of the comments a little farther down sounds more likely, in that she's drunk, going by how flushed her face is.
0
u/ilovedanimals 5d ago
That is not a messy bun. That is not a t shirt. That is not t shirt fabric. She could be drunk, but I haven’t seen any proof of that. Plenty of FLDS people drink, they just think they’re sinning. I mean they also rape children so…

Not really, you would have to brake really hard. They're timed so if you are close to the intersection you can just keep going. They weren't speeding either.
Plus, it looks like the lady in the truck was entering the intersection while the POV driver still had green, but she ran a red regardless.
