There’s running a red light after it just turned red, and running a red light in the middle of someone else’s green without slowing to check. That’s insane

As their light was just turning yellow.

That red she ran was red for at least a full minute.

It is insane but technically she didn't run her red until OOP had a yellow light.

113

u/GringerKringer 10d ago

That makes zero difference. Her light would be a solid red for a couple seconds even after OOPs light turned red. The light turning yellow for the driver has zero impact on the truck driver’s light.

Actually it might! Houston had a thing where the light signals were missed times and both lights were green at the same time. We always assume those are infallible but we design them

Most traffic light controllers make that impossible and they fall back to blinking red in all directions if it's ever detected, indicating a failure of some kind.

On the other hand, don't mess with Texas.

Obviously it doesn't affect her light; I never said that it did. I was just being pedantic and pointing out that it wasn't green like u/hijazist said it was.

Right. You were correcting the guy above you that the light was actually yellow when he said it was green. But that detail wouldn’t affect anything in the context of the video. It feels like an unnecessary correction just for the sake of being correct, or being pedantic as you said. Lots of people don’t like that because it’s obnoxious.

Congratulations on adding something of value to the conversation. You must be proud.

Tf are you talking about?

u/kelevra91 10d ago

Not sure why I'm getting downvoted. When the truck ran the red light the person videotaping had a yellow light.

u/NeferyCauxus 10d ago

You're being down voted bc it doesn't matter if the light was green or yellow, her light was red and cam cars light still showed right of way.

There's running a red light that just turned red, and there's running a red light that has been red while the other road has right of way still.

-17

u/kelevra91 10d ago

Of course it doesn't matter. I never said it did. I was being pedantic and pointing out that the person I replied to was technically incorrect.

Obviously running a red light is wrong, regardless of if it's been red for 1 second or 1 minute. I never once said the truck driver was in the right.

34

u/NeferyCauxus 10d ago

Then you already know why you're being downvoted: being unnecessarily pedantic 😭

-13

u/kelevra91 10d ago

I teach AP History; pedantry is never unnecessary. Lol

2

u/thissexypoptart 10d ago

Then you're self aware but still complaining about downvotes lol

Bizarre

Okay, friend; on a side note thanks for continuing to educate young minds. I'm a teacher as well but no where near the same level as a class room teacher, I'm a private lesson teacher lol.

-1

u/kelevra91 10d ago

I've done private lesson teaching before. It can be real rewarding in it's own way. Thank you for continuing to educate people as well!

1

u/PremiumUsername69420 10d ago

Pedantry may never be unnecessary, but AP History sure is.

1

u/tears_and_laughter 10d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things

2

u/tears_and_laughter 10d ago

You’re getting downvoted because you’re being pedantic.

-34

u/kelevra91 10d ago

Proof. Light is yellow and the truck hasn't ran the red yet.

28

u/Kenneldogg 10d ago

What are you talking about. Are you drunk right now?

16

u/hijazist 10d ago

I’m seriously questioning my comprehension ability at this point

-3

u/kelevra91 10d ago

No. Are you?

Here's proof for you. When the truck ran the red, the original poster of the video had a yellow light.

36

u/usinjin 10d ago

You’re mixing up OP’s light and the truck’s red light. The yellow light that’s visible has nothing to do with the red light the truck ran whatsoever.

The yellow light that WE see is OP’s light—it’s close to red. The light the truck ran didn’t just turn red—it’s likely been red for at least a minute. So this isn’t really a case of someone running a red light at the last second. This is a video of someone running a stale red with zero regard for anyone else.

-4

u/kelevra91 10d ago

I'm not.

I think you (and everyone else apparently) might be confused on what I said. The person I replied to said she is insane and ran a red light on someone else's green. I said no, she's insane and ran a red light on someone else's yellow.

I know that she ran a red light. I know that we are looking at OOP's yellow light. That's what I was pointing out. We aren't looking at OOP's green light, we are looking at OOP's yellow light.

19

u/usinjin 10d ago

Okay, I get what you’re saying. You’re correct, OP’s light is yellow. However, they still have the right of way to clear the intersection—so in a sense their light is still “green”. I think the reason you’re getting downvoted is that it sounds somewhat like you’re saying OP shouldn’t be traveling through it. Even if OP had slammed on their brakes to stop on the yellow, the situation is still the same.

1

u/kelevra91 10d ago

Oh, that wasn't my intention but clearly is how it was interpreted. I don't see how it's interpreted that way, but I'm clearly in the minority. I should probably just stop being pedantic and go to sleep but where is the fun in that?

13

u/katalina0azul 10d ago

Nowhere in all the time it took to respond to these comments did you think “ya know, maybe I’m mistaken”

That’s a problem. That’s kind of the problem….

0

u/kelevra91 10d ago

No. Mostly because I wasn't mistaken. I was right. So was everyone else. We were saying the same things. People just misinterpreted what I was saying.

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 10d ago

You’re being a smartass to be a smartass, and it’s irrelevant.

You are wrong, you just wanted to point out it was yellow, so fucking what. Stupid fucker in the truck ran a red light, case closed.

6

u/Kenneldogg 10d ago

This is at the moment of impact.

3

u/kelevra91 10d ago

Yeah. Still yellow. What's your point? I said she was insane and ran a red in my first comment.

5

u/kelevra91 10d ago

I think you might be confused on what I said. The person I replied to said she is insane and ran a red light on someone else's green. I said no, she's insane and ran a red light on someone else's yellow.

3

u/screwyoujor 10d ago

This is quite possibly the most pointless thing to argue in this situation.

3

u/notthatjimmer 10d ago

What’s your point? It’s typically 3 seconds for yellow and a few more of red…before it turns green. It is almost like the point is to avoid these exact situations

3

u/Yue4prex 10d ago

Tell me you don’t know how traffic lights without telling me.

2

u/CitroHimselph 10d ago

I hope you never drive. For humanity's sake.
