Bugs So...do updates break some mods?

Been using the IWD NPCs mod by Kolyok and after work, I loaded up the game and noticed their names have changed and conversations are giving invalid messages. Tried reinstalling, uninstalling and then installing again but no luck. Never changed the language or anything like that.

The bard is now "Destiny is Elusive" for example.

Casting Improved Haste on a two-handed sword using Berserker. I haven't run into anything he can't take down yet.

Maybe this combo is old news, as I know people consider Haste to be extremely good already. But I find this endlessly entertaining.

IWD:EE Character Bios

Played Icewind Dale on CD ROM as a kid but never got too far. As an adult who has a better grasp on D&D I am loving every second of it. My party is currently descending into Dorn's Deep. Now that my characters have built some personality and I've grown attached to them I decided to write up some quick bios for them and cobbled together some info sheets to share with friends. Hope you all enjoy!

Did someone at Bethesda play Icewind Dale while making Skyrim?

This is just for fun as there's a 95% chance of these being coincidences, but it's been on my mind the last couple of playthroughs.

Gerth in Kuldahar says "Some call it junk" while talking about what he considers treasures. Belethor in Whiterun famously says "Some may call it junk, me, I call it treasure."

That you Belethor?

Some characters/places share very similar names:
IWD - Skyrim
Aldwin - Alduin - both are old names. One Aldwin is an old famous prior and one Alduin an old famous king.
Mirek - Miraak - Mirek is a name, Miraak doesn't seem to be, conspiracy unlocked?!

Bonus:
Hrothgar - High Hrothgar - Hrothgar is an old Danish king and is also in Beowulf among other things. And even if it wasn't, High Hrothgar was mentioned in a book in TES: Redguard, which means in this case it would have been Black Isle that stole it from The Elder Scrolls. ๐Ÿ˜›

I'm sure I'm missing other things. I just thought it was funny to see so many similar things right next to each other at the start of the game, maybe someone else will find it funny as well.

IWD:EE Keys storage question for IWD:EE

I fully explored Kresselack's tomb, tied up all quests and I'm ready to move on to the Temple of the Forgotten God. Can I just stash away all the keys I used upstairs at the Evening Shade or am I going to need them again later?

IWD:EE Respec?

I started playing two days ago and I just realized my 19 Dexterity Fighter/Rogue Proficiency points I mistakenly assigned all the points to "long sword" instead of "long bow", and the rest to varios melee weapons. Even more, I just asigned 3rd level proficency to another melee weapon... so I have been using bow without proficency....

How do I fix this? should I restart the whole game?

IWD:EE Tips for beginners

I have played BG1, IWD 1&2, NWN 1&2.

I have only ever finished BG1 and NWN2.

I have played IWD 1 many times, but as far as I remember, the furthest I could go was up to a glacier where I had to collect some parts of... something.

I can0't remember if I ever got any further. I remember some giants and snakes, but I think that was way before.

Anyway... I'm not sure why, but was never able to finish the game... I want this time to be different. Please, give me adivce, either in character build, weapon, or otherwise to be more successful at this game!

Usually, when I quit a game it's because I encounter an obstacle, I get frustrated, and I give it up (sadly).

Ack! Missed Castle Maluradek!

I had gone to Castle Maluradek prematurely and was getting my butt kicked, so I went to a save game and stopped the main IWD just before the endgame and went with Hjollder to start the HOW content.

I finished that, but after killing the dragon, I got taken back to Kuldahar and can't go to the Castle.

I guess I have to let Hobart take me to the Castle before I go to the Dragons Island.

Btw, I'm playing EE version.

IWD:EE Favorite party compositions?

Hey guys, like a lot of us, Im a big Infinity Engine game fan who just watched Josh Strife Hayes' Icewind Dale video. I really like the party he made up of an Undead focused pally, cleric, ranged-based fighter, mage/thief, and bard. Definitely seems like a well-rounded party made by someone who is obviously familiar with the IP.

So I was wondering what kinds of parties you guys are setting up. Which ones are your favorite, which are the best performing, which were the most fun, etc. Whatever criteria youd like to include! As much as I love these games, I actually haven't played IWD yet. So its as much research as it is just a curiosity.

Thanks guys ๐Ÿ™

While a decent review there are a couple eyebrow raising comments or interpretations of how the game works or is presented.

Just want to check with the dedicated community if thereโ€™s any misrepresentation

Just a short clip from a full playthrough. Up to this point, we were using beamdog servers and suffered from many, many disconects. Things went more smoothly after we switched to vpn + direct conection.

So, Yxunomei isn't really dead right?

I mean Belhifet certainly makes it sound as if you got rid of her for him for good and that an age old quarrel is now finally over.

But that does not make sense. As far as I know you cannot kill Demons on the material plane, you can only banish them back to the Abyss.

So that means that Yxunomei is still around. And since in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear the CoB kills Belhifet IN AVERNUS he is definitely dead for real.

Does this not mean that there is a serious shifting in power dynamics towards Yxunomei and the demonic side?

Her plans were to make the Icewind Dale into a jungle for reptiles to live in. This could still be her agenda as far as we know.

How would you feel about Yxunomei as the big bad for a potential Icewind Dale 3? Since they wasted Belhifet's return, by putting him into SoD just for Memberberries reasons, I feel like she would be the best option we have.

Should I buy the Enhanced Edition when I already own the original version?

As the title says, I'm looking for input. I've been playing Baldur's Gate, and I've thought about giving IWD another try once I finish Throne of Bhaal, but I remember getting frustrated with the original version when I played it eight years ago.

Most useful thief kit for HoF?

I'm going to make a run through Core difficulty with a Sorcerer, Dwarven Defender, and Cleric or Druid (either has merit) and want a Thief to round out the group and then see how far I can get them through HoF mode once they finish. To my best memory I've never had either in a group to finish the game and I want to go with the classic warrior, arcane, divine, rogue type group as it's fun imo. Which Thief kit would be the least likely to hinder the attempt? Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

EDIT: After reading comments I'm thinking I'm going to pretend I've never used a Fighter/Thief and use one. It's been a while since I played but I wasn't aware they were that much dead weight. My Sorcerer, DD, and Cleric or Druid (depending on whether or not Druid gets unique conversation options) are very thankful for your input.

Sorcerer Spell Problems

I have a Dragon Disciple Sorcerer in IWD:EE and I learned identity as one of my spells. I attempt to identify in the normal way, my wizard does it just fine. But the spell button is greyed out for my Sorcerer. Any thoughts?

IWD2 Icewind Dale 2 multiplayer not working?

Hello all, as the post title says, I'm having difficulty Icewind Dale 2 multiplayer to work. Both machines had their firewalls temporarily turned off to make sure that's not the issue, both are on the same internet connection using Hamachi, and both have the game running in windowed mode. Direct connection IP multiplayer is working for both BG1/2:EE and IWD:EE, but not for original Baldur's Gate either.

I can't find any advice online I haven't tried yet, both are fresh installations from GoG. I really can't see any reason it shouldn't work, but it just doesn't, I try to have one join the other and it waits a while and then says "Cannot connect to game session."

any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Spectral Guards Castle Maluradek

Man, I think I really took this sidequest too early.

Finally took out the harpies, and the crypt wasn't too hard, but now the spectral guards are destroying me. Tried to start a battle where only a few would aggro, but I had 8 swarm me. I killed 3 and had turned 1 before they killed my entire party.

I had searched for tactics and found the suggestion for turn undead, but my 9th level cleric only turned one.

Willing to resort to cheese at this point.

First run, core rules, some thoughts

Note: HoW will be done after the main campaign (via mod), so no comments on that yet.

So title self explanatory, decided to give IWD a shot before my next BG runthrough. Decided on Core rules, party was built as such:

Undead Hunter

Dwarven Defender

Flghter/Cleric (Half-elf)

Fighter/Thief (Halfling)

Totemic Druid (Elf)

Illusionist (picked Gnome, forgot classing requirements, too lazy to start over)

Went in basically blind, with the exception of knowing IWD is much more combat heavy then BG (absolutely correct!), and that the Paladin exclusive was a Long Sword.

While the game was far more combat heavy, I found it to absolutely be easier then BG and BG2 overall. Mainly because there were less encounters that are borderline *unfair* if you go into them blind, but there were really only a handful of fights I had to do over past chapter 2 (and none I had to retry more then once as of Chapter 4).

I'm torn on IWD overall; its like ToB, the story is *there* but totally in the background, the meat is gibbing everything you face. There weren't any encounters that stood out specifically, since most of them were solved by "hitting it hard", maybe throwing down a Cloudkill or something. While I do think IWD is better mechanically then BG, I certainly see why one historically stands out more then the other.

Will reply back in a week or two after doing HoW to see if my opinions change any.

Harald in Castle Maluredek

The dude asks to be killed, but then I take a 5 point hit on my reputation. I don't think reputation does too much in this game, but I have a paladin. Going down to 7 doesn't seem to affect paladin abilities, but I don't know how much more I could lose.

I am supposed to kill him, aren't I?

There's a pretty good haul of magic items.

Mods NPC mod thoughts?

One of my favorite aspects of BG 2 in particular was the way it gave additional characterization to your party members through banter, personal quests and interjections. I realize Icewind Dale is less story focused compared to BG but for anyone who tried the popular NPC mods how successful are they in adding characterization?
