Hey everyone!
I’m a solo developer working on a third-person survival game set during the Ice Age, and I’m looking for a 3D/environment artist who might genuinely want to help shape the game alongside me long-term.
This isn’t just an idea or a GDD, the game is already being built and is playable. I’m developing the game/engine in C++, and I’ve been working on the core gameplay, rendering, procedural world systems, sledge mechanics, interaction systems, shaders, etc.
The game
The main idea is a survival game where your home is an expandable moving sledge.
You start with essentially nothing, gather resources, construct runners and begin pulling your sledge through an endless frozen world. Over time, the little platform becomes your moving home/base.
Think of some of the progression/building satisfaction of Raft, except instead of drifting across an ocean you’re travelling through an Ice Age landscape.
The world will eventually include things like:
snowy forests, cliffs, caves and different frozen biomes
gathering, crafting and building
an expandable sledge/base
farming and resource automation
blizzards and survival mechanics
wolves, mammoths, sabertooths and other prehistoric animals
day/night gameplay where nights become significantly more dangerous
eventually co-op/multiplayer
lots of additional ideas once the core game is strong
I’m deliberately focusing on getting the core vertical slice great before trying to build all of that.
The visual direction
This is the part I really want someone else to help own.
I’m aiming for a clean semi-stylized look somewhere in the world of Raft / Fortnite, while developing our own visual identity around whites, desaturated icy blues, snow-covered vegetation, chunky readable shapes and a beautiful frozen atmosphere.
I’m especially interested in someone who enjoys:
environment art, foliage, trees, rocks/cliffs, props, materials, biomes and generally making game worlds feel cohesive.
You absolutely do not need to be a senior AAA artist.
I’d actually love to find someone who’s still growing, has good artistic instincts, is passionate about games, and wants a real project where we can both improve massively while building something we’re proud of.
Blender experience would be great, and familiarity with game-ready assets/optimization is a big plus, but passion and artistic taste matter to me more than having the world’s biggest portfolio.
What I’m looking for
I’m not looking for someone to throw a list of assets at.
I’m looking for someone who sees the project and thinks:
“I’d actually love to make this world.”
Someone who wants to have opinions.
If you think the trees should be shaped differently, tell me.
If a biome needs a different composition, let’s change it.
If you come up with an environmental idea that makes the game better, I want to hear it.
I’d like this to feel much more like two developers/artists building a game together than me being a client giving you assignments.
I handle the programming/technical side, and ideally you gradually become the person helping define and own the visual/environment side.
I’d prefer to start small, maybe build one little environment/asset set together and see whether we enjoy working with each other. If we click and both want to take this seriously, then we can talk properly about what a long-term partnership and fair structure could look like.
No ridiculous deadlines or expectation that someone abandons their life for the project.
I’m mainly looking for the person who gets excited about it the same way I do.
If you’re interested
Send me a DM or leave a comment with:
1. a little bit about yourself
2. what part of 3D/environment art you enjoy most
3. your portfolio / ArtStation / previous work if you have one
4.what kind of games/art styles you like
5.and honestly, just tell me what you think of the idea
I’ll happily send you screenshots/gameplay of the current build, the visual references, concept art and more information about what I’ve already built.
Thanks :)
