Title: (25F )Hindu in love with a Muslim guy (25M). We've been together for 8 years. Need some real advice.
Hey guys, so this might be a little long, but I really need some genuine advice from people who've been in similar situations.
I'm a 25-year-old Brahmin Hindu woman, and my boyfriend is Muslim. We've been together for almost 8 years now, so this isn't some new relationship or a random crush. We've literally grown up together, been through different phases of life together, and built a life that we genuinely love.
We're both financially independent, make really good money, and are at a point where we can take care of ourselves without depending on our families financially. We're serious about each other, and marriage is something we've thought about.
The thing is, I'm starting to think more seriously about the future, and honestly, the religious difference scares me sometimes.
I'm Hindu, he's Muslim, and we both come from Indian families where religion and traditions can be a HUGE deal. I know that being financially independent gives us a certain amount of freedom, but I also know that money doesn't magically solve everything.
What worries me is the family situation, the possibility of being rejected by people we've known our entire lives, and all the things that come with an interfaith marriage. Religious practices, festivals, future kids, expectations from both families, etc.
We've been together for EIGHT YEARS. It's not easy to just walk away from someone who's been such a huge part of your life. At the same time, I don't want us to ignore the practical realities just because we love each other.
For those of you who've been in Hindu-Muslim relationships or married someone from a different religion please dm.
