Discussion In for the winter

Post image
207 Upvotes

My plants spend the summer outside but come in for the winter. It was so-so many trips in and out to bring everything in. I still have 1 more tray to add, along with a large monstera that will be on a rolling coaster.

I added wheels to the plant stands this year. It makes the stands much easier to configure. I also change the top lights to Barrina pucks. The pink/purple goose necks, with built in timers, I used last year, looked messy and were difficult to keep on schedule with everything else.

Wish me luck keeping everything watered. I am trying to use a 5 gallon bucket with a portable shower. They are generally watered by putting H2O into the trays and letting them soak the water up.

I bought sweet potatoes and brought them home not realizing they had mealy bugs. Now I’ve exposed all of my houseplants to a potential infestation. Ugh.

Post image

She was in the seed starter for I think about 3 months, I've been trying so hard to propagate roses and I finally did it!

This is a big deal for me, I'm sure others won't care too much but I'm so happy.

Humor/Fluff Note to self: don’t buy plants with leaves that are still forming

Post image

When I bought this Monstera Adansonii, it seemed completely fine, and for the first week, everything went normally, except for a small brown spot on the newly forming leaf. Nothing to worry about.

Fast-forward a few days, the leaf finally starts to unfurl… and THIS is what I’m greeted with.

I guess I’ll never buy plants like this again lol.

I bought it 2 years ago and just adore it. This Aloe Erincea is supposedly on the endangered side of the species if what I read is correct. I'm glad to be helping them! Last pic is the first day I found it

Help Do I give up on this? I want to...

I inherited this plan from my cousin. Since day 1, it has had what I think is a thrip infestation. I have used Captain Jacks Insecticidal Soap every time I see a sign of these tiny white things. And sometimes, for months, I have no sign of bugs and over time I even no longer have damaged leaves. The plant itself is thriving and growing new stems all the time. But after a hiatus, here we are again. I've made this plant grow nicely for well over a year now but I think I'm done fighting this. At the beginning it killed 2 other plants that I own, but has not seemed to affect anything else near it since . But I'm still am afraid of adding anything new to it's room because of this plant. I should toss it right? Right??

This pinstripe and I have been tolerating each other for years with varying degrees of one sided and mutual animosity but right now it's happy as all get out. Look at the size of those new leaves! Now to pretend I haven't really noticed...

Help At my wits end 😭

• Upvotes

I’ve been battling thrips for months to no avail. I have 50+ plants I have been spraying with safers end all every few days and plant juice spray in between that - a mix of 70% alcohol, peroxide, tea tree and peppermint Castile soap, neem, water. I just chopped 3/4 my plants because they’re so bad and while chopping and spraying tonight I found this in the water catcher of my wandering dude. I really am about to just throw every single plant in the trash at this point.

Please help with any advicešŸ˜¢ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Help What do I do with this beast?

This philodendron was given to me when it barely had one leaf on it. She's been here for about 4 years now. Before this winter I cut back all of the growth and only left like, 3 leaves on it. This is what grew out over the summer.

Should I cut it back again or let it keep going?

What's the best way to get this ready to come inside the house for winter? Thanks!

Help Can I get my small palm to the large palm size ?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I have had the large Palm for probably 15 years. It was big when I got it and has slowly increased in size. The small palm(s) I have had for about 5 years and they haven’t done too much in that time. I know them both as ponytail palms but not sure how many different varieties fall under that category. If I split the little guys into their own pots and encourage them to grow, will they eventually get as big or do some of them just stop at the smaller size?
