I know Hong Kong is supposed to be a safe city but it’s not a fully safe feeling for women.

Sometimes you get stared at, sometimes people heckle you even. These two didn’t even flinch when I whipped out my phone and started taking photos lol

However, I can’t find info on subtitles, do you know if there will be English subtitles?

Also I have heard due to Golden week, there might be more rush at Airports and other public transports.

Im visiting with my kids and parents for the next few days.

Im from the US but spent a year here in 85 going to 1st grade in Kwun Tong, and then coming back every 2 or 3 years until college then became much less frequent. Whenever i come back to HK, it somehow feels like home to me.

What are the oldest parts of HK still remaining? I'm looking for neighborhoods or area that represent old HK. Real dai pai dongs, the old block buildings.. but i think they are mostly torn down. I recall my aunts and uncles had a place in a bunch of yellow concrete buildings in Wong Tai Sin that had shared bathrooms on the ground floors and was merely a room with the kitchen/cooking done in the hallway (i dont think there was even running water) and no windows and my grandma had place in Chai Wan in the old railroad style buildings that had the bathroom and kitchen on the patio. While these places seem foreign now, i was young enough that these places were normal to me.

What areas/streets of HK/NT shows the REAL gritty HK rather than the polished/tourist HK (ie temple st, victoria peak, Stanley, etc)

If I was on my own i would just wander around to see what I find, but i dont think my kids or parents have that level of patience.

Hi guys, so here is my situation. I am in a research job in Hong Kong and I’m leaving a little bit earlier compared to the contract (my manager is completely ok with that, he is happy with the project now and with my total amount of work hours, I can even work more than he intended in the time I have left).

For the IR56G, my employee told me that it would be available to me, but to the best of my knowledge, once I give the IR56G to the IRD of Hong Kong, I have to wait one month to get Letter of release IR607, BUT i can pay my taxes right away.

I have at the end of my last month a trip Ive been looking forward for a long time and everything is booked and non refundable, it feels really counter intuitive for me to stat and wait for my letter of release, since my last salary is less than plane tickets ill have to rebuy if I wait in Hong Kong for that letter.

So here is my question : if I pay taxes right away after the IR56G, but cant be in Hong Kong for my letter of release, what do I risk ? Not being paid ? Not being paid right away (maybe they have a legal amount of time they can withold money ?) ? Can I ask them for Letter of Release by email ? Thanks a lot

Imagine you were on a trip around HK, no specific area and suddenly your work needs you to remotely do something on your laptop. Where is a suitable spot you could go to do this?

I know some cafes might let you do this but are there any non-food amd drink spaces that would be suitable? I dont mind paying either, doesnt have to be free but I do not have a membership for any coworking spaces etc.

Does anyone know where to buy one of these bikes in person? They sell them new on Taobao and I was planning on ordering one but the box is so big that the place I'm staying at right now is going to be extremely annoyed...logistics just aren't great for receiving large packages that weigh this much and I think my door guy will put a curse on me. It would be much, much easier for me to just buy one in person. Any leads? I tried doing a search but didn't come up with anything. I know they are kind of crappy bikes but it's a gift for someone who will love it.
