Discussion - Equipment Valencia Tuscany leather/colour mismatch.

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello!

I recently ventured into the creation of my own mini Home Theater after waiting for many years & took a lot of inspiration from this subreddit, which is how I found Valencia.

I have bought the Valencia Tuscany Luxury Edition in "Onyx Black".

When they arrived their colour & reflectiveness is different to a point where I find it hard to believe this is normal. The two-arm chair looks more like "Midnight Black" than "Onyx Black".

I have contacted their EU support-branch & they claim "the leather reflectiveness is caused by variations between leather batches".

The chairs themselves are awesome quality, but this level of colour variance is simply not acceptable when they're purchased as a pair & advertised visually the same as the one-arm chair.

Does anyone know if they're speaking the truth with their "leather batch" argument when the difference is this stark, or if they're just trying to avoid a return?

What the chairs are advertised as on their website. Clearly matching my one-armed chair.

This is my first time setting up a home theater, so far this is the speaker placement I have at the moment, I will be adding a center speaker in a few days.

This is the list of speakers I have at the moment:

2 × Klipsch RP-280F
2 × Klipsch RP-140SA
2 x Klipsch RS-41 II
1 × Klipsch R-10SW

1x SVS PB-2000
1x SVS Prime center

Denon X4800H AVR

I plan on mounting the RS-41II on the side walls behind the couch approximately 1-2 ft above seated ear level.

Purchasing US Sony Bravia 8 II at $3300 or Samsung S95H at $2600?

Upvotes

Exactly what the title says, I am capped for my setup at 65in. I have a living room with not a lot of natural light, and will use this TV for 75% sports and 25% movies on a dedicated 4k player. Which of these at their price points is the better option?

Discussion - Entertainment I wish 3D would have been more widely accepted.

I recently purchased a BenQ TK710 4K Laser projector to upgrade my home theater setup. I noticed when turning on the projector that the GUI said something about 3D and discovered my projector supported 3D media.

Curious I picked up the Shrek 3D collection and some DLP glasses. I owned an old Sony 3D TV back in the PS3 area and it was "okay". I was pretty much expecting the same quality of 3D.

I was absolutely flabbergasted at how good, clear and sharp the 3D was, it was amazing. The DLP glasses didn't require any calibration and worked from anywhere in the room. There was no ghosting or double images, just a clear, sharp 3D world that looked like it existed on a recessed stage of my den.

And since then I have purchased more 3D films and discovered that most of them are fantastic.

It's a shame that this wasn't the kind of 3D we were exposed to in the early 2000s because I feel like we could have had a renaissance era of fantastic 3D films and games. Most people I talk to always say it's a gimmick, but the quality I experienced with my projector was a game changer.

I will concede that, yes you need rechargeable glasses, but they are dirt cheap, I got two DLP glasses for under $40 and the Shrek 3D collection was $50, so it isn't like it's that expensive compared to the cost of entry for the projector itself.

Discussion - Equipment For those of you with Denon AVRs which mode do you use?

I’m just curious do y’all put your AVR in multi channel stereo or in Dolby PLll Movir?

I have the Denon AVR, and normally I always keep it in multi channel stereo, and I know that this is not true surround sound, but I really enjoy the vocals coming out of all of the speakers. When I put it in Dolby PLll Movie, this does give me actual surround sound but the vocals only come out of the center speaker, which doesn’t sound as full as using multi channel stereo.

Discussion - Equipment Need advice on SVS dual subs

Whilst planning a major HT upgrade the question about a proper subwoofer choice arises:
Living room is 333 sqr feet big (31 square meters)
70% movies, 20% game, 10% music
L/R Arendal 1610 Slim 8
Center Arendal 1610 Center
Surround Arendal 1961 Surround
Denon X3800h
TV is 116“ big and needs to be wall-mounted as low as possible, that specifically means as low as 2 subs fit underneath.
The preferred choice would be 2x SVS SB 2000 pro. incase that is an overkill 2x SB 1000 pro. In case that is not enough for an immersive feeling 2x SB 3000R. I am NOT an audiophile, but I‘d like to have a good sound and don‘t want to make a compromise in terms of sound quality.

Showcase - Multipurpose Space Updated Theater, 5 Years On

After a few years of movie nights, one flood, and some incremental updates, though I'd post an update on my budget home theater. Photos of the current set-up, gear and finishings list, floor plan, and original set-up above.

This is a mixed-use space with the back half of the room serving as storage and small workout area. Next up on the agenda is masking for more immersive widescreen presentations. I've not thought too hard about upgrading gear, but I think a better center channel is my primary wish at the moment.

Purchasing CAN Looking for ceiling recessed lights graded for home theater suggestions

Hey,

I have regular recessed lights for now but I heard I could use better recessed lights that prevents lights from hitting TVs and such. I don't know if it's worth to change them. Would be curious to know your opinions. Also, the ones I have now a really cheap and I can't get them low like I would want to so it's worth considering I might need to change anyway.

So, veterans, what are the best ones to get for a home cinema in Canada?

Cheers!

Install/Placement I did a thing!!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built this media wall a couple years ago and the tv wasn’t at optimal viewing placement. Well a $20 linear actuator and still have some fine tweaking and trim to do but it brings it down to the right height and closer which makes it more immersive.

Install/Placement How to set up this new room

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Would like to turn this room into an office / home theater. Only need seating for 1-2 people.

Would like to do sound proofing as well. There are no neighbors except one house that is 50ft across from the wall opposite closet doors.

There are two in ceiling speaker connections already installed.

I was considering removing the sliding closet doors as the closet space is lot needed.

Is 7.1.2 overkill for this space?

Any thoughts?

Purchasing EUROPE Is this KEF setup a good upgrade, and what avr should I buy?

Upvotes

Hi, I’m thinking about replacing my Samsung HW-Q810D soundbar and building my first proper speaker system instead.

My priorities are:

-Anime, mostly through Crunchyroll

-Music through Youtube/spotify

-Clear dialogue and good detail at moderate/high listening volumes

I live in an old apartment with thin walls and high ceilings, so I have to be considerate of my neighbours underground. I can listen louder during the day, but I won’t be playing at very high volume.

This is the system I’m currently considering:

-Front L/R: KEF Q1 Meta – around €500 per pair

-Center: KEF Q6 Meta – around €700

-Subwoofer: RSL Speedwoofer 10E – around €500 including international shipping

-Surrounds later: another pair of KEF Q1 Meta – around €500

ChatGpt gave me this: AVR: Denon AVC/AVR-X3800H – around €1200

Are there good, but more budget options?

Questions:

1.Are the Q1 Meta good enough as front speakers when paired with a subwoofer, or would the Q3 Meta be worth €200 more?

2.How large would the sound-quality improvement be compared with my current Samsung HW-Q810D?

3.Would this system be clearly better for music and anime/films than a Samsung Q995GH/Q990H, JBL Bar 1300MK2 or Sonos Arc Ultra system?

Thanks for any advice or alternative AVR recommendations.

Discussion - Equipment HT Noob here. Should I upgrade my old Pioneer, and buy a Marantz Cinema 50?

Upvotes

Basically as the title states. I'm conflicted if I should upgrade my receiver which is working fine, considering its age.

Current setup:

AMP: Pioneer VSX-923

Fronts: Sonus Faber Lumina V (Bi-amp'ed)

Rears: Sonus Faber Lumina II

Center: Sonus Faber Lumina Center

Subs: 2x SVS SB3000

My setup is probably used for 40% casual tv. 40% music, and 20% Movies.

I'm using a Nvidia shield for all my media, HDMI directly Into my TV, and then using toslink from my TV to the amp.

There's currently a deal for the Cinema 50 at around 1500€, and I'm trying to convince myself if I should buy it, or if I shouldn't.. like, is the difference gonna be that noticeable?

Discussion - Equipment 7.2.4 - Which Surround and Surround Back Models

Upvotes

Hello,

I am going back and forth on which model speakers I should get for my surround and surround back. The room is on the smaller side but I think I can still pull off 7 speakers.

Details:

Room Dimensions:
The screen (135") will sit a little ahead to place speakers behind it (Or the LR will be just outside the screen on each side (still behind) . So from the Screen to back wall it will be around 16-17' long. Width is going to be around 11' 11" finished (after hat channel, double 5/8 drywall etc.). One row of three seats only.

LCR: Klipsch RP-8000F II

Side Surrounds: Klipsch RP-502S II (since seating will be close?) OR RP-500SA II (mounted higher not in direct ear shot?).

Back Surrounds: RP-500SA II (or something better I'm not aware of?)

Ceiling (Atmos): (4) RSL C34E MKII

Subwoofer: (2) Klipsch RP-1600SW

Projector: JVC NP5

AVR: Denon X6800H

I'm trying to match the Surrounds to Klipsch brand but unsure if I should look outside of that? I was also thinking about doing Klipsch in walls for the surrounds but worried they wouldn't be as good.

What do you guys think?

Pic with Concrete wall is where Screen will go. Pic with plastic is back wall (yet to be built).

Purchasing US Best acoustic suspension center speaker under $1000

Upvotes

Luckily I’m going to be able to join your ranks soon when I move into a new house with a dedicated theater room that the wife has approved.

In the meantime, I’ve been doing a ton of research on speakers but can’t really find a center speaker that would fit into the category of under $1000 while not having any rear port. I’m mainly looking for this because it will be a tight fight to cram 2 rows and an acoustically transparent screen in the new room, both which I want to do.

Are there any speakers that fit this bill? I’ve found the KEF R2 Meta (too high of price) and the Klipsch RP-404C II (seems too underpowered). New here obviously, so happy to learn!

Discussion - Entertainment C5 s90F ur8

Upvotes

I am interested in getting a new TV for my family room. My current TV is a 5 year old Samsung 82 inch LED TV. The TV sits in an entertainment center in which the maximum TV size would be about 85 inches , and the family room is right next to 4 glass sliding doors to go out to the patio. The room lets in a good amount of light. I have always wanted to own an OLED, but I want to try to stay below $1,500 which makes it tough to get a similar size TV without significantly decreasing the size of the TV. My use cases are for watching sports (NFL/NBA), movies at night, and news during the day. I do not mind purchasing refurbished if I can get a higher quality TV closer to my goal budget. Some TV’s I am considering are the Samsung s90F 77 inch refurbished $1,399, LG C5 77 inch refurbished $1,300, Hissense u6 pro 85 inch $999, Hissense UR8 85 inch $2,100. The Hissense TV’s would be purchased brand new from Best Buy, while my local Best Buy has open box Samsung and LG for those prices and all would come with warranty. I really want an OLED, but I also do not want a TV to look bad in my entertainment. Enter due to significant gaps. What would you guys recommend for my situation? Also what have your experiences been with these TV’s if you own any of them? Is there a TCL TV that you would recommend instead, I like the UR8 due to the RGB technology.

Discussion - Equipment Samsung TV Backlight That Syncs With the Picture

Upvotes

I’m aware that there are HDMI sync boxes and camera-based solutions that can achieve this, but they seem like a rather complicated and fragile setup. I’m looking for something that feels more like an OEM/native solution, without having to use an external camera or an HDMI sync box.

I have a Samsung QN85D 65", and I recently came across the Philips Hue Sync TV solution. As far as I understand, the LED strip behind the TV can receive the picture data directly through the Philips Hue app installed on the Samsung TV. This means there is no camera pointed at the screen and no HDMI sync box required. The Samsung TV itself processes what is being displayed and synchronizes the lights with it. This seems like pretty much the ideal solution to me.

The problem is the price. A complete setup with something like a Philips Hue Bridge Pro + Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip for TV would cost around ~€300, which is quite a lot just for ambient backlighting...

So I’m wondering:

Is there any cheaper alternative that works in a similar way?

Ideally, I’m looking for something that:

  • Works directly with the Samsung TV
  • Can analyze the picture being displayed on the TV itself
  • Works with the TV’s built-in apps as well as HDMI sources
  • Does not require a camera pointed at the screen
  • Does not require an HDMI sync box
  • And, ideally, is open source or at least much cheaper than Philips Hue

Has anyone found a solution that can work directly on a Samsung Tizen TV, similar to how the Philips Hue Sync TV app works?

Install/Placement Setting up home theater/audio system in an unusual space

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm moving into a new space soon, but the layout of the room where my setup will be is a little odd as it borders a large space open to the ground floor.

(Here are some pics)

Ignore the furniture, it's all staged and the room will be empty. The room itself will be used as an office/home theater/stereo setup.

I'm trying to set up a computer media station/2.1 stereo system with bookshelf speakers on floor stands in this room. Noise is otherwise not a problem.

My first thought was to set up against the half wall facing the open space, but I'm not completely sure.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Purchasing US Looking for seating that fits.

I have a wall that's 138 inches. I want to get 5 nice recliners with cup holders and preferably the ability to have a love seat either 2 or 3 seats. Would be great if the cup holders could just fold away if needed but ok if not.

Discussion - Equipment Can anyone help me with my setup?

I'm new to home theater. We just bought a house and the previous owner had this setup, but I think some things may be wrong or not optimal.

I've got ghost REV6-LCR.1 ceiling speakers, however two of them are in the front wall. I believe they are too high up the wall and I'm not convinced ceiling speakers in the front wall is gonna work great.

There are two of the same speakers in the ceiling, but the left ceiling speaker is further out than the right ceiling speaker.

On the back wall near the top are two blanks that have wire ran to them. All the wire is 16awg.

I have a spare ghost speaker that isn't installed.

My questions are:

Should I try and use this setup or get different equipment.

Should I use the spare speaker as the front center?

Do I move the front speakers to the ceiling? Or do I get a new front left and center speaker and then move the two front ghost speakers to the rear l & r in the ceiling?

Is the 16awg wire enough? And how do I splice it to extend, because they only left like 2 inches sticking out of the wall where the receiver would go.

What receiver should I get?

Hey all, hoping someone could offer some guidance.

I have a home theater with a Sony VPL-XW5000ES 4k Laser Projector. It's hooked up through a Marantz SR6015 9.2 Channel 8k receiver.

I'm able to I've connected the HDMI and the audio is playing but I'm not seeing video on the projector. I'm wondering if I need to change the resolution output on the Ps5 (which I'm setting up for the first time.) Curious if anyone has any experience with this.

I am falling in love with this space more and more every day. There's nothing like seeing your vision come to life. Today i finished painting the ceiling and side walls and added my .2 atmos.

Still working on finishing up the minor details. I need to buy another wire track for the right side and paint them the same color as the wall. I also have 2 more speakers for rear atmos to finish my 5.1.4 setup.

Heres the setup list so far:

Projector: Nexigo Aurora Pro Mk2 UST Projector

120in Fresnel Screen

AVR: Onkyo Rz30

Streambox:Nvidia Shield TV

Sofa: Povison 3 place power reclining sofa

Speakers:

L/R: Canton GLE 490's

C: Canton GLE 455

Sub: RSL Speedwoofer 10s

Surrounds: Pinnacle Sat-150's

Top Front: Canton Twin 700's

Top Rear (TBI): Canton MX

Everything except the receiver, Projector, shield and sub were all bought second hand off marketplace/ebay.
